Golden Opportunity

"Wonder Mare, on your left!" Green Lantern shouted to her Amazon friend as she was flying through the canyon near Ponyville as Wonder Mare believed the Super Six should have days when they train and hone their powers and skills for any situation that might come their way. On this morning, she woke the others at 4:00 am and ordered them into their outfits in order for them to hide their secret identities.

"Has anypony seen Mary yet? I haven't seen her since we got here." Supermare asked as she flew alongside the other flyers of the team.

"She should've been here a few minutes ago like the rest of us. But she left me a note saying she had to do some other stuff." Wonder Mare recounted what had happened.

"That's a little odd, don't you think?" Black Canary asked as she got further ahead Wonder Mare. "It's not like her to miss a training session."

"Maybe she just can't handle having to wake up early as somepony wants us to." Green Lantern said and turned to Wonder Mare, who tried to hide her shame.

"After one more loop, we will get some rest and breakfast, deal?" Wonder Mare bargained with the others.

"I can accept that!" Batmare yelled from where she watched the others in their flight training.

After another hour of training, Wonder Mare and the others went to Sugarcube Corner in their civilian identities for the reason they don't want to go everywhere in their superhero identities. After ordering plenty of donuts for each of them, the five ponies sat at a table outside the bakery, they waited for their order to arrive.

"You probably think it is odd to see me without my armor on, isn't it?" Wonder Mare asked as she didn't have any of her usual article of clothing except for her bracelets. Which made sense to her and the others because of everypony already knowing who she is.

"You look great without your armor, Diana. I mean, look at me without the green all over my body." Jessica Cruz moved her left hoof up and down her body.

"You have it right, Jessica." Kara Danvers said while next to Barbra Gordon, both are who wear glasses.

"Here are your doughnuts, dears. I hope you enjoy them." Mrs. Cake said as she arrived with an entire plate of donuts.

"We most certainly will." Wonder Mare said before she handed bits to the co-owner of the bakery.

After Mrs. Cake left them alone, the group of friends started to consume the baked goods in pure satisfaction towards each individual bite they took of the donuts. But what they didn't know was that several miles away, the gold bell on top of the Ponyville had gotten lose and had been rolling rapidly through town, getting closer to the group of friends.

"You girls hear that?' Kara had asked as she heard a slight ringing.

"It might be that!" Dinah answered and she pointed out the incoming bell that came closer.

"Looks like it is heading toward us. What do we do? If we show our powers here, ponies will find out our identities." Barbara pondered this dilemma.

"If we must protect the citizens, we will have to reveal ourselves." Diana stood on her back hooves in order to hold up her bracelets on her front hooves, ready to deflect and hit the wheel.

But what was most unexpected was the single red laser beam that didn't come from Kara's eyes. The red beam went through the middle of the bell, splitting the bell in half and both parts rolling to the side, everypony very confused about what happened at this moment.

"Uh, Kara, was that your heat vision?" Jessica asked her Kryptonian friend.

"Nope, wasn't me," Kara answered and she pointed at her not-so-shattered glasses, indicating they would be broken if she used her heat vision while wearing them.

"Don't worry, ladies, it was me." A male voice had said and the girls turned around to see a yellow coated Earth Pony in a blue and gold outfit, gold mane and tail, golden sunglasses, golden wristbands on his front hooves, and a blue star for a cutie mark.

"Who the hay are you?" Barbara asked the gold looking figure.

"Only the greatest hero compared to the Super Six, good lady. I'm the golden crime fighter, a hero among ponies, I am Booster Gold!" The gold pony introduced himself to the five and kissed Diana's right hoof.

"Who?" Kara asked the stallion.

"Booster Gold!" Booster said again. "If you'll excuse me, there are more ponies that need saving." He said before he flew away.

All five ponies were left very confused at what had just occurred, staying in absolute silence until Dinah spoke up.

"Can anypony explain to me what just happened?" Dinah asked any of her friends.

"It looks like Ponyville is getting another new hero," Diana answered.

After this had occurred, Diana returned to her place of residence at the Golden Oaks Library, where she lived with Steve Trevor. While there isn't any romance between the two ponies, they are close in the "friends" category of relationships, which didn't bother them one bit. So while Diana explained the earlier events, Steve listened.

"This stallion cut through the bell with some laser just like Supermare's, but it came from a ring around one of his front hooves like Green Lantern's," Diana explained to Steve.

"Sounds like he might be a copycat," Steve said and paid attention.

"He also flew without wings, how is that possible?" Diana asked.

"I've heard there is a spell unicorns use to float..." Steve was about to explain. But was interrupted by Diana.

"He didn't even have a horn!" Diana screamed for no reason and blushed after she did so.

"Diana, are you worried about this guy?" Steve asked out of concern.

"He is an unknown stallion that just appeared out of nowhere with powers to me and the others, I'm very much curious about this stallion," Diana said about her curiosities.

But the conversation was halted when a knock was heard from the main door outside. Steve got up to see who knocked and didn't find anypony outside, but what looked like an envelope on the welcome mat and picked it up, bringing it to Diana. She opened it to see an invite inside.

"It looks like some event is going to occur at Town Hall in an hour." Diana read the contents of the invite. "I'm curious what the Mayor has for everypony to hear."

"Why don't we go and see?" Steve asked his roommate.

About an hour later, just about everypony in that were interested arrived at the town hall for this event. There were rows of varieties of the three types of ponies were lined up, eagerly waiting for learning what is going on. Among the crowd of ponies were the Super Six, who all waited with everypony else. Like Wonder Mare and Steve, the others didn't know why they were invited alongside the rest of Ponyville.

"Is anypony else wondering why this was put together so suddenly?" Batmare asked the others as she looked toward the front entrance where a podium was positioned.

"I'm drawing a blank like the rest of you. I have no idea what is going on." Black Canary responded.

Just then, the mayor walked up to the podium and readjusted the microphone to reach close enough to her mouth, allowing her voice to be heard.

"Fillies and gentlecoats, I'm glad to see all of you on this wonderful day where I am able to share some fantastic news that will surely surprise our town's own local heroes, the Super Six." The Mayor pointed them out and the ponies cheered at their presence. "But if our guest thinks about it, they won't be the only superheroes in town for a while. May I introduce our guest, Booster Gold!"

After the mayor had said the name, the said stallion flew above the crowd, he smiled and waved until he reached the podium and landed. Everypony responded with cheers and amazement on this incredible stallion that flew without wings, who wore such a fantastic suit, and who looked to be an Earth Pony with the abilities of the other types of ponies.

"Everypony, I'm sure you don't have a clue on who I am. But while I'm not one to boast about myself, let my best pal, Skeets, explain to you. Skeets!" Once Booster had said that, an object appeared next to him. The object looking like a golden egg with four fins on the bottom, a glass visor protecting black insides at the center, and a red eye floating inside.

"It's a robot!" Batmare pointed out.

"A what?" Wonder Mare asked her friend with the tech knowledge.

"A mechanical being that lives on electricity and magic. A sorta electric creature." Batmare explained to the confused Amazon princess.

Back to the stage, Skeets was still being shown off to the audience by Booster until he remembered what he ordered Skeets to do.

"Skeets, could you provide our friends with an explanation about me?" Booster asked his mechanical pal.

"Most certainly, sir," Skeets said before he used his features to project images to help provide a better understanding. "Citizens of Ponyville, behold Booster Gold. Traveling back through time from three centuries in the future, Booster Gold has come to battle today's wrongdoers. Booster Gold, protecting his past to ensure your future!"

"From the future?" A red Earth pony filly with brown hair asked.

"Yes, little filly. I'm from the distant future with all the best tech and greatest advances in anything." Booster said as he flew down to interact with the crowd. "But there is the problem that I can't give anypony future knowledge."

Several ponies moaned in disappointment at this information.

"But why don't I introduce myself to your heroes," Booster said before he walked over to the five members of the Super Six present. "I'll have it known that all of you are known as legends when I come from. But where is Mary Marvel, by any chance?"

"We honestly have no idea where she is." Green Lantern said to the gold-clad hero.

"But she did tell us she would like to take breaks from duty." Wonder Mare explained.

"Maybe if any of you would love to, we could all team up and fight bad guys together, huh?" Booster suggested to the girls.

"We don't exactly allow anypony to join our group, we're kinda tight like that," Supermare explained to Booster.

"I wouldn't mind working with you, sir," Skeets said to his partner. "I'm bound to work for you as long as I function."

"Thanks, Skeets," Booster said to his robot pal.

"Mister Booster?" Two colts named Snip and Snails asked out loud.

"Yes, little guys?" Booster asked as he stepped down to them.

"What are your superpowers?" Snips asked.

"Well, I don't exactly have any powers, but my suit has so many features that allow me to fly, fire lasers, have incredible strength, and plenty of other awesome things it allows me to do." Booster demonstrated one of his powers by shooting a tree with a single laser beam.

"That is pretty cool!" Snails exclaimed in awe.

"I said the same thing when I first tested this thing!" Booster said to the colt.

"But how strong are you? I bet you can handle an Ursa Major." Snips suggested.

"That sounds really dangerous. Ursa Majors are incredibly huge and too dangerous for anypony to handle. Except for Princess Celestia, highly skilled unicorns, and the Super Six." The red filly from earlier had said.

"But if he has this future stuff with him, he can handle a single Ursa Major by himself." Snips said to everypony. "Am I right?"

"Yeah!" Snails said, but honestly had no idea what was going on.

"How about I prove you right by going into the Everfree Forest, find an Ursa Major, fight it, and bring it back here to show you? How does that sound, everypony?" Booster asked all of Ponyville.

In response, everypony cheered and howled in excitement at the idea. But the Super Six was very concerned about this idea, most especially Wonder Mare, who believed that it would instead bring get a lot of ponies killed. So while the citizens surround Booster, the five members of the Super Six talk to each other.

"Do any of you think this is a bad idea?" Black Canary asked the others.

"What makes you think that?" Wonder Mare questioned her friend.

"I can already tell he likes to boast about himself and cares more about the fame than he does about hero work." Supermare gave her honest opinion.

"Anypony who acts like that is a doofus." Black Canary said.

"Wonder Mare?" The red filly asked for the Amazon princess's attention.

"What is it you need, little one?" Wonder Mare asked the filly.

"I just want you to know that I think that all of you are the better heroes." The filly gave her own opinion.

"Aw. Thank you!" Green Lantern was thankful.

"Thank you, little one." Wonder Mare said to the filly.

After the little sequence of exchanges that came from his interactions with the citizens, Booster Gold and Skeets were flying through the Everfree Forest as Booster was ready to prove himself to the citizens of Ponyville as they pony who fights the monsters. But the most present obstacle was a large number of thick trees that made it impossible to fly through and get there a lot faster. Which wasn't great for Booster as he found himself caught in some vines that held him up from the ground.

Skeets hovered to Booster and performed a quick scan. "Sir, you appear to be stuck to those vines."

"You think, Skeets?" Booster said before he used his laser to cut through the vines and got himself free.

"My analysis does confirm that you were indeed trapped for 26 seconds, sir," Skeets reported to his master.

"Guess I'll need to go through this forest on hooves. But why don't you remind me what an Ursa Major is, it might help me with dealing with one." Booster ordered the floating robot.

"Ursa Major is the name of the creature that is best recognized as a gigantic magical bear with fur that looks like the night sky and is partially translucent. Like the average bear, they have great strength." Skeets provided what was considered to be important information.

"Which means I'm gonna need plenty of strength in order to beat this thing," Booster said to himself as he checked the power level on his suit's right hoof and set it to a suitable power level on strength.

"Sir, I would've recommended a request for help from the Super Six as it is best estimated their assistance will benefit you in defeating the Ursa Major." Skeets cautioned.

"Skeets, if I want to prove myself to them, I need to face this thing by myself." Booster said and continued on his way to the cave.

Later in the evening, Booster spotted a large opening in rock formations, the two gold companions waited and checked the perimeter of the cave to find anything inside that might cause trouble if they so much as do something incredibly stupid. The most difficult obstacle at the moment was the complete darkness that comes the inside of the cave where light barely exists. Which wasn't helpful for Booster as he kept tripping over rocks in the cave.

"Skeets, I would like if you turned on the lights, please," Booster ordered his robot.

"Certainly, sir," Skeets said before he activated his light systems and a flashlight came out of his head.

But that actually served to be their downfall when the light shined on a massive bear with its fur instead being replaced by a blue night sky and twinkling stars that shined brightly off its body. It was an Ursa Major that towered them and it wasn't happy with a light aimed at its face.

"Is that an Ursa Major?" Booster asked Skeets.

"Indeed, sir," Skeets confirmed.

But the further conversation had to be put on hold as the Major performed a slashing motion at Booster's head, but it missed when Booster flew into the air with his suit's built-in flight tech that allowed him to reach up to the ceiling of the cave. Thinking he needed a great solution to beat the bear-like creature, Booster used the lasers on his front hooves to hit the Ursa Major's paws that it kept trying to slash him with. While this fight was occurring, Skeets hid behind a large rock.

"Sir, most reports about the Ursa Major suggest it might not handle a major blast and direct hit," Skeets informed him.

"One big hit and blast coming up!" Booster yelled what he misheard and used his front hooves to hit the Ursa Major in the head, then blasting it with his lasers.

Unfortunately, that only made seemed to make things worse as the loud noise from the blast caused the stalagmites from the ceiling of the cave to start to come crashing down towards the occupants of the cave. Panicking, Booster flew to Skeets, grabbed him, and flew out of the cave to escape. They watched as the cave entrance was blocked by falling rocks that blocked all possible entrance and exit.

"Sir, you defeated the Ursa Major! Yay!" Skeets span around in a circle to celebrate.

"Yeah, that was actually really easy." Booster had to catch his breath.

But the universe had to prove him wrong when the stones collapsed from the hole that sealed only seconds ago, what had caused the collapse was the Ursa Major as it made a loud growl that would scare many ponies in its wake. The Major's attention was brought to the stallion and the robot in front of it and one of them had visible signs of fear on his face. Like most people when struck with fear, Booster did something stupid and tried to throw another punch when he flew up towards the Ursa Major, but that only resulted in Booster getting sent back to the ground after he was pushed by the Ursa Major.

"Skeets, I don't what strategies you have in your database for this situation right now, but my idea is to run!" Booster screamed before he turned tail and started to run back towards Ponyville with Skeets following him, along with the Ursa Major.

Back in Ponyville, the five members of the Super Six still in duty are still in uniform and are currently at the library to watch over the city for any signs of crime, watching with intense vigilance that would put the Royal Guard to shame, but not to the point that any pony goes too far into the lives of other ponies. Drinking a cup of tea is Wonder Mare as she sits with the rest of her friends.

"So we all agree that this Booster Gold is a stallion with too much thought only to himself?" Wonder Mare asked her friends.

"Gonna agree with you there. While I like to brag about my skills, I don't do it for fame like he seems to be doing it for." Black Canary said.

"Plus, there is the thought that he might not even be from the future and his suit is just a bunch of flashy lights built into it," Batmare suggested her idea.

"That might be a good point, Batmare," Supermare said.

"You know you can say your real names around me, right?" Steve asked the other ponies in the room and they remembered he was there.

"We know, but we want to be sure we can trust you." Green Lantern informed him.

Just then, there was knocking on the door that got everypony's attention, so Supermare used her high speed to quickly reach the door and opened it to find Booster Gold and Skeets outside.

"Oh, girls, it's Booster!" Supermare yelled and everypony walked up to the door.

"Okay, so I might've screwed up dealing with an Ursa Major I found in the Everfree Forest." Booster explained with loose breath.

"Screwed up how?" Batmare asked the gold-clad stallion.

But the answer came when a loud growl was heard from a couple of miles away.

"He lured said Ursa Major back to Ponyville, miss Batmare." Skeets informed the pony in a bat costume as soon as he caught up.

"You did what?" Wonder Mare asked with rage visible on her face.

"I know I screwed up, but we can team up and save the day, am I right?" Booster held his hoof up in the air, waiting for a response.

"No, you and your servant will stay here until we deal with the problem you started. Come on, girls!" Wonder Mare ordered and flew outside, the others following her, and Booster left with Skeets and Steve at the library.

On the way to where the Ursa Major was making a rampage, Green Lantern carried Batmare in a green bubble made from her ring. Flying alongside was Supermare, and an idea had occurred to her.

"So how are we gonna deal with this thing?" Supermare asked the others.

"I plan on using my lasso to wrap around the Major, Green Lantern and Black Canary will help with evacuating any ponies that are bound to be in danger, and you will have to lift the beast while it is bound in my lasso." Wonder Mare formed a strategy.

"What about my role in the plan?" A voice had said and everypony had turned their heads to see Mary Marvel flying by them.

"Mary, where have you been all day?" Black Canary asked the red alicorn.

"I've been helping with somepony else's problems today." Mary explained to her friends. "But don't worry about having to explain it all to me, I already know about that Booster stallion."

"Good. Now, let's stop that starry beast and send it back to where it came from!" Wonder Mare shouted and flew even faster.

"Gotta love her warrior spirit," Mary said before she followed her.

Finally arriving at the part of town where the Ursa Major was attacking, the Super Six witnessed ponies left and right, front and back, ponies in all directions running for their lives in an attempt to escape the rampaging bear-like creature. While panic was occurring, the Ursa Major was knocking down multiple structures in its way.

"Lantern, Canary, help the civilians!" Wonder Mare ordered and the ponies followed their orders.

Both ponies went down to the panicking ponies and got everypony they could find out of the area with Black Canary helping an old pony dodge a falling street light, Green Lantern constructing a floor with her ring and lifting a large group of 16 ponies away, and Black Canary then using her kicking in order to open a door to a store that has several ponies trapped inside.

"I'm going in!" Wonder Mare yelled to Mary Marvel and Supermare before she flew in circles around the Ursa Major.

"Just be ready when she has it tied up," Supermare told Mary.

"You got it," Mary smirked and saluted.

Pulling out her Lasso of Truth, Wonder Mare started to spin in a circle around the Ursa Major, the creature looking at the alicorn in front of it and its face indicating its confusion. Much like a story in which Wonder Mare was told by her mother involving a dragon that tried to eat Celestia once, Wonder Mare wrapped the bear-like creature's legs with her lasso and the Ursa Major stood in its place.

"Now!" Wonder Mare yelled to Supermare and Mary Marvel.

Flying first was Mary Marvel as she went to the feet of the Ursa Major and started to lift it by the massive paws, using her incredible strength to lift it from the ground. Following her was Supermare as she used her own strength to assist her by grabbing the Ursa Major by the back and carrying it up. But there are times when everything doesn't go according to plan, such as the case when the Ursa Major's paws slip out of the lasso's hold and it smacked Mary Marvel into Wonder Mare, which made the lasso unwrap from the legs of the Ursa Major, allowing it to get free.

"Oh no!" Supermare panicked while still holding to the Ursa Major's back.

What was more worrying was that the Ursa Major hit a lamp that was flying directly towards the two knocked down alicorns and Supermare decided to abandon holding the Ursa Major in order to save her friends by taking the hit from the lamp for her friends, which didn't hurt her at all.

"Okay, that clearly didn't work at all." Mary groaned while on top of Wonder Mare.

"What else can we do?" Supermare asked as she flew to the two of them.

"The best we can do for now is try to tire it from destroying everything around it." Wonder Mare brought up another idea.

So the three ponies went into battle, hitting the Ursa Major however they can in order to tire the massive beast down to the point that it can be safely lifted back to its cave. While Black Canary, Batmare, and Green Lantern were doing everything they could to get everypony out of the area.

"How are we doing on getting everypony out of here?" Black Canary asked her friends as she got a filly out of a collapsing building.

"Just got another group out!" Green Lantern yelled as she and Batmare helped with a family getting out of the way.

"If we can't stop this thing soon, it might be pointless to save these ponies if they also lose their homes and shops," Batmare said as she leaped into the air so she could be high enough to throw a Batarang at the Ursa Major.

Then with a blurring light that passed her ahead, Batmare saw that it was both Booster Gold and Skeets that had passed her. Finding Wonder Mare flying around to dodge the Ursa Major's attacks and not getting into too many close calls from the paws, Booster and Skeets flew rapidly to her.

"I told you to away from this fight!" Wonder Mare shouted as Booster got next to her.

"I know, but Skeets and I figured something to stop this thing," Booster said to Wonder Mare. "Skeets, cue the music!"

"I don't think we need battle music, Booster," Supermare told him.

"Miss Supermare, this isn't "battle music" in any case," Skeets said before a tiny speaker came out of his body.

What was most surprising was that the music that came from the speaker wasn't any battle music or anything intense, but a simple lullaby that would calm any foal to sleep, which looked to be the same case for the Ursa Major as it started to look tired and stopped hitting the three flyers of the Super Six.

"What is going on?" Mary Marvel asked for anypony in particular to answer her.

"Just watch what happens," Booster told her.

What they witnessed was the Ursa Major getting more tired and it started to lay on the ground beneath it. Reacting quickly, Green Lantern used her ring to create an energy construct of a mattress that the Ursa Major landed on and had fallen asleep when it made contact. Everypony reacting with either confusion or thinking it was adorable.

"Now, get it away from here!" Booster whispered to Green Lantern.

Green Lantern obliged and lifted the Ursa Major on the mattress back to the Everfree Forest, where it could be far enough that it won't harm anypony. After returning it to its cave, Green Lantern flew back to the town and watched civilians gather to congratulate her and her friends, Booster Gold and Skeets also with them.

"Booster, how did you know that would work on the Ursa Major?" Wonder Mare asked him.

"That wasn't even an Ursa Major at all, it was an Ursa Minor, it's basically a cub. Skeets told me that while you went off to fight it." Booster explained.

"Okay, but why didn't he tell you that earlier?" Batmare asked as she looked at the robot.

"My database was undergoing a slight malfunction that resulted in some scrambling of my database," Skeets explained.

"But I do owe all of you an apology for bringing that thing here and causing all this damage." Booster moved his right hoove in a circling motion. "Part of my apology is to you all the truth."

"The truth?" The entire Super Six asked.

"While I am from the future, I wasn't much of anypony's hero there. I used to play buckball for my hometown because my mother suffered a terrible disease that I couldn't afford to take care of her, even with the pony I made while playing. So I resorted to gambling that won me enough to afford the treatments to save her, but I got arrested for all my troubles. When I got out of jail, I had a job at a museum where I learned about all of you and the adventures you went on, so I decided to become my own superhero using some equipment I stole from the museum along with Skeets and a time machine that allowed me to get here, leading to where we are now." Booster admitted and sat down in shame.

"Then why would you do all of this?" Supermare asked him.

"I figured if I did some good in this time period, I would not only gain the fame of being a hero. But also to make up for my mistakes." Booster further explained.

After that explanation, Wonder Mare wrapped her Lasso of Truth around him to see if he told them the truth and he repeated what he had already said, confirming he was telling the truth, leaving everypony shocked. After that truth test, Wonder Mare unwrapped Booster.

"So you might think it would be a good idea to send me back home to my time. I understand if you feel that way." Booster looked sad as he started to walk away.

"Wait!" Wonder Mare shouted and Booster stopped to turn around towards her. "Even though I would make sure you would be handed to the authorities for theft and use of stolen weaponry, I now see you as somepony that while he wants a fortune for his actions, but also wants to do good because he has shown that he cares about ponies."

"Does that mean I get to join the Super Six?" Booster asked her and her and the others responded with their eyebrows being raised. "I mean.... thank you so much, Wonder Mare."

"Will you stick around after all this?" Black Canary asked.

"I think I will travel across Equestria in order to perform heroic duties as I go around, but I'll send a message if I need help with something," Booster said to them.

"I'm happy to hear that." Wonder Mare smiled and shook hooves with him.

"Just so you know, there is this damage you can help with cleaning up and repairing." Batmare pointed out and Booster smiled with a drip of sweat running down his head.
