//------------------------------// // Memories of the Past (Part 2) // Story: A Guardian's Tale in Equestria // by TheWolfSpartanBrony //------------------------------// It had been fourteen years since my first resurrection and during that time I had earned a reputation of being the Lone Wolf. One man capable of taking down Strike Bosses by myself and the one to call on when Fireteams have bitten off more than they could chew. I have also clawed my way to the top of the leaderboards in the Crucible. In that time I had visions or memories every time I died. They had shown me what looked like the future or an alternate future of this universe it is hard to tell along with some other stuff from my past. Though what I could gleam from those visions was a Guardian who would kill an Archon scouting for a warp drive. This Guardian would kill the Archon with the weapons and skills they had with them. This Guardian would go on to bring hope back to the Last City. I had also grown in strength in the light and was able to unlocked that black and gold chest. Inside it was a set of legendary armor, several legendary weapons, some exotic armor, and several exotic weapons. The same ones I had bought and worn all of the items in the chest to the convention center from my first vision/memory thing. 'Hey Max, there's a distress beacon from a downed Guardian ship several miles from here' stated Faye over out shared mental link 'Good to know.' I stated as I pulled the trigger of Rolling Thunder an exotic Heavy Sniper Rifle. How I got the thing was I had found the blueprints of it out in the Mojave Desert. The thing is an anti-anything sniper rifle and is a monster of a rifle fires a high explosive armor piercing twenty millimeter arc rounds out of a four round magazine that increases the explosion radius for every precision kill while a precision hit will summon a bolt of lightning and if any nearby enemy is hit by the lightning bolt and killed by it another will spawn. (Basically a D2 Thunderlord mixed with the design of a Kaber-AP Sniper from Titanfall with a Threat Scope attached.) My target was a high value Fallen Captain who had taken three paintings from the Spider's personal vault. How that happened I don't know or care. "Confirm kill." I said to Faye as I moved down from my pirch to retrieve the paintings from a cache that I saw the Captain put them in. "Kill confirmed." stated Faye who was now floating over my right shoulder. "And the paintings?" asked the Spider speaking to me though the comms "In good condition; only minor scratches to the frames." I answered "Good, very good. About that special Guardian you always speak so highly of-" stated Spider, but I cut him off before he could say anything more. "They will be rising soon." I tell Spider knowing that downed Guardian jumpship would be the start of The Guardian's rise to power and fame. "You certain light bearer?" asked Spider "Positive, so keep a close eye on your shores. I will be around with those paintings of yours soon." was my answer as I spawned my Sparrow, an E-47 Prismatica. "Make sure you do." stated Spider before the line went dead "Now lets go check out that beacon." I state out loud as I zoomed off in the direction of the beacon. When I got there a level 3 Titan class Guardian was running across the Steppes to Dock 18. So I followed from the rooftops to where there was a big hole in the roof. I readied Rolling Thunder incase the Titan got overwhelmed, though it was unnecessary as the Titan was able to take down the Archon by herself thanks to a well placed Bubble. Once the Titan left for the City. Elsie Bray appeared out of her tactical cloak. "I see you have taken an interest in her Elsie." I said knowing that would get under her metaphorical skin. "She is quite skilled and shows promise. Unlike you, Wolf." stated a female Exo who materialized next to me. "That we can agree on. How's Osiris?" I asked "Still alive and still wondering the Infinite Forest." answered the Exo Stranger. "Good to know. See ya, E." I said before transmating back to my ship, Coyote's Howl. The Howl is a modified Arcadia Class Jumps ship modeled after Cayde-6's Queen of Hearts. The difference between the two ships is that mine has a menacing, snarling, coyote with tan fur painted half way down the nose with the rest of its body trails over the top of the ship till it reaches the back of the ship. The rest is painted white with orange highlights on the wings and there are weapons situated next to the nose where the nose meets the rest of the ship. The armaments are two forty millimeter auto-cannons one on each side of the nose which are situated above two powerful railguns. Also the jet flames coming out the back are a neon green thanks to Amanda. Setting the coordinates to The Tangled Shore to give Spider back his paintings. It took me half an hour to reach the edge of Awoken space, once there I activated the stealth tech Cayde made a while ago. There were a few kinks to work out, but thanks to Alex was able to fix those kinks. With the stealth tech active I flew to the Spider's HQ with the paintings that Captain stole. "Here's your paintings." I said to the fat Fallen as I presented the paintings to him. There were three in total one of Picasso's early works, the other two I didn't know the artists' name or work, but they did look good. "Well done my friend. Well done indeed." said Spider as he inspected the paintings himself. "So, did they come?" asked Spider "Yes, she did." I answer "So, this is the end of our wonderful friendship?" asked Spider "For now. That Guardian, if she does well in the Crucible, she will be looking to challenge me in the Crucible. Then morethan likely ask me to help her with the Vault of Glass." I answer "Hmm... those blasted things." says Spider talking about the Vex and their annoying habit of time traveling. "Yeah, fuckers are annoying." I state knowing how the Vex can be. "Max, that new Guardian, just took on Saber's team and barely won." said Faye "Really now?" I ask knowing that Saber will be pissed that a newbie showed her up. Even if it was by one point. "Yeah." answered while projecting the footage of the highlights of the Crucible match. There was one moment where the new Guardian head butted Saber directly and then shoved Saber's own shotgun into Saber's face and pulled the trigger, killing Saber instantly. "Well then, I'll be seeing you around Spider." I said before turning around and walk out of Spider's lair. Flying back to the Tower was a quiet affair as I turned in the various bounties, looked over the bets for today's Crucible matches, and what fireteams needed assistance with strikes. Currently there were no fireteams needed to be pulled out of the fire or helped. All of the teams in Crucible I had bet on won their games. except one though that was by one point. So I'm not that mad, though Jason will likely boast about it when we meet up for drinks tonight. "Max, Zavala is calling." said Alex "Commander." I said as I activated the comms "Wolf." said Zavala "Are the other's listening?" I asked, there were a few missions that Zavala wanted me to do with out the other Vanguard member's permission. "We're here Wolfie." said Cayde in his usual upbeat voice "Never change Cayde, never change. How has he been Ikora?" I told the Hunter Vanguard and my good friend Cayde-6 and asked Ikora "Usual for him and it is good to hear from you again Maximus." said Ikora "Good to hear. I'm guessing this isn't a social call?" I asked "Indeed, that Guardian you spoke of is here." said Zavala "I saw, I won't interfere unless she seeks me out." I said relieving some of Zavala's worries as per the agreement that the Commander and I set up when he first found out about it. "You know the kid's good in the Crucible. Just shut down Saber and her team. Some in the City are already speculating that she'll come for you next." said Cayde "Of course they would. I saw the highlights of that match. She's good, but not that good. I'll be landing soon, we'll continue this conversation in person. Wolf, out." I said before cutting comms as my Jumpship exited warp speed and landed in the Tower's hanger while transmating into the Tower's Plaza which always got other Guardians to react. I went about my business, got some engrams I missed from the postmaster which turned out to be nothing more than stuff I already had, though I did get a good roll on an Auto Rifle. The Auto Rifle in question being The Dealbreaker, a Häkke Auto Rifle with decent stats. The rolls SC Holo and SD Thermal, Crowd Control in column 3, Counterbalance in column 4, High Caliber Rounds, Speed Reload, and Rifled Barrel in column 5. When I was done inspecting the Rifle and was going to talk to the Vanguard a female Awoken Titan bumped into me wearing the Fieldplate set of armor. "Sorry..." said the Titan timidly before running off towards the elevators to the residential sector of the Tower. 'Strange." I say to myself before Saber and her team showed up. Saber was a human Titan who used the Striker Sub-Class with platinum blond hair done in a fohawk and wore the Astrolord armor set of the Future War Cult without a shader. She and her team would ultimately meet their fate at the hands of Oryx, The Taken King. "Hey Wolf, you seen that kinderguardian run by?" asked Saber with a look that said she wanted to murder someone. "Titan wearing Fieldplate Armor?" I ask "Yeah, you know where she went?" asked Drax-6 an Exo Titan that used the Defender Sub-Class and wore the Astrolord armor set with the Tristesse shader and wore the same look as Saber. "Nope, though I'd love to help you lot find her, but I gotta talk with the Vanguard. See ya." I say as I walk past the group of Future War Cult Titans. Walking into the Tower Watch and up to the table where the Vanguard stand. "Did you see the looks on Fireteam Sable?" I asked the Vanguard "Yeah, not a happy bunch. I know I wouldn't be after a match like that." said Cayde "Please, Cayde you would deny it ever happened not try to murder someone." I said that made the Hunter Vanguard eat whatever rebuke he was about to say. "Which is why we want you looking after her, until Fireteam Sable can collect themselves." said Zavala "So, babysit the kid." I said "Yes and no. You don't have to be apart of her Fireteam, just make sure Sable doesn't try anything that would get her killed. Permanently" clarified Ikora "Fine, but the City will want to see the two of us fight due to Saber being number two in all of Crucible under me. Since her narrow victory over Saber and Sable today." I concede "That is very true, Guardian." asked Zavala "So, should we set it up for tomorrow?" asked Cayde "Nah, do it next wee and let kid recover from today." was my answer to Cayde's question. "I'll let her know!" chirped Sundance, Cayde's Ghost "Don't, I'll tell her myself. It doesn't feel right to do this all of a sudden. SO DON'T GO SPOUTING OFF ON SOCIAL MEDIA!" I say and shout to the civilians working in the Tower around the Vanguard. After getting her name and room number from Zavala. Thela Mal, Room 156 on floor 320. I made my way to my room in the Tower. Multiple trophies from the various missions I had undertaken over the years hung on the walls and sat on shelves around the 'living' room. I walked over to the small weapon rack that sat to the side of one of the shelves in the room and placed Rolling Thunder, How Dare You, and Matador 64 on it. Then I went into the bathroom to take a shower before heading over to talk to Thela about our one on one Crucible match. Lets hope she doesn't hate me for it.
