Storm

Chapter 1

It had been raining for about a week straight, only cloudy with light drizzles. This night was a crazy thunderstorm. The dirt roads of Ponyville had turned into mud and were almost impossible to walk along without getting your hooves covered. Mostly everypony in the small town was asleep by now. A light was shining through one of windows of Princess Twilight’s castle. Starlight was sitting at the desk in her room. She was sorting through student files… and it was taking forever.
“I should of been in bed hours ago..” She said to herself and knew she needed to stop and sleep soon. A bright flash of lightning followed by a crack of thunder made Starlight jump. Pushing her chair away from her desk, she hopped off her stool and did a few stretches. After a few satisfying cracks she walked over to the window and peered out. It was so hard to see outside with how heavy the rain was. With another bright strike of lightning Starlight could see the wagon of a familiar magician. For a second she wondered if Trixie was okay out there in the storm and if she should of invited her inside for the night.
“Trixie’s on the road all the time!” Starlight thought, “I’m sure she’s been through countless storms before!” She still worried about her best friend out there but tried not to let it get to her.

----

A roar of thunder shook Trixie’s caravan. The blue mare had been awake all night, jumping at every roar of thunder. She was huddled in a corner of the wagon against all her junk with her cape wrapped around her.
“The Tired and Sleepless Trixie is….. annoyed!” she announced to herself. “Calm down, it's just rain..” She tossed her cape behind her so she could hobble to her feet and made her way over to the wagons very tiny window. Bringing a hoof up to the curtain, she drew it back. The rain was so heavy she could barely see Twilight’s castle. A flash of bright white light lit the castle up and quickly followed another intense clap of thunder, this one shaking her home even harder than the last. She retreated from the window in a hurry. All the clutter banged together, setting off a few smoke bombs that filled the wagon instantly.
Trixie, without thinking, threw the window open and the smoke quickly left but was replaced with rain water. She let out a cry and slammed the window shut when a good amount of water layered the floor of the wagon.
“As if this night couldn't of gotten any worse!” Trixie threw her hooves in the air dramatically. Another rumble from outside made her flinch. “I can't deal with this all night!” She sat up and went back over to the window to take another peek out at the castle. “I guess..” she started, “it couldn't hurt to try.”

----

Starlight was just about to crawl into bed when she heard a faint noise from inside the castle, or was it coming from outside? She trotted over to her bedroom door and stuck her head out to get a better listen. A few more seconds passed and it definitely was knocking. “Who would be at the castle this late??,” she wondered. With ease she engulfed herself with her horn’s magic and teleported herself down to the castle's grand doors.
Once the door was open, Trixie stood in the doorway, she was soaked. Her cape was wrapped around her which provided no protection from the rain.
“Trixie!” Starlight shouted.
“Trixie would like to come in please!” She was already pushing passed Starlight and entered the foyer. Trixie stood there, looking like she was in shock. A puddle was already forming at her hooves.
“Is everything okay?”
“Why yes, Starlight, I'm having a wonderful night! As you can see!” Thunder shook the castle gently but is still made Trixie jump. She lost footing and slipped in the puddle. Hitting the ground with a THUD she laid there for a minute looking defeated.
“Here let me help you!” Starlight walked over to her and extended a hoof out. Trixie took it and pulled herself up. She took a deep breath and let it out in a long sigh.
“Thank you..” She gave Starlight a weak smile. Without warning, another roar shook the building. Trixie lunged forward with a yelp and clung to Starlight, squeezing her eyes shut.
“Trixie? Are you afraid of thunderstorms?” Trixie’s eyes shot open and she pushed away from her.
“No! Who told you that! A measly thunderstorm cannot shake The Unscareable Trixie!!” She puffed her chest out. Her confidence quickly disappeared when she was startled by yet, another rumble.
With a flash of magic, Starlight quickly teleported the both of them back up to her room.
“Alright, Unscareable Trixie.” Starlight removed the damp cloak from Trixie and hung it on her desk chair. She poofed a towel into view, hovering it in front of Trixie, and immediately started drying her off.

“What are you doing up so late, Star?” by the tone of Trixie's voice it seemed like she had calmed down.
“Oh, just rifling through student files. Seeing who needs my time more and who doesn't. After all, who really needs a guidance counselor at a school of friendship??”
“What?!” Trixie exclaimed. “Of course they need you! Even if you may not think so sometimes. Even our little sessions help me tons!” Her coat was pretty much dry. She pressed herself against Starlight to give her a comforting touch.
“Thanks, Trixie.” She flashed her a quick smile then went back to her desk. “I'm gonna clean these papers up, you can go ahead and get comfy in my bed.” Starlight had turned her back to Trixie so she couldn't see the slight shock shehad on her face.
“Wh- your bed? Together?!” Starlight looked back at her.
“Where else would you sleep? The cold, hard floor?” Trixie trotted over to the side of the bed and flopped down on the crystal tiles.
“Exactly!” She shut her eyes then was quickly reminded why she was there in the first place, a rumble of thunder shook the floor under her. A squeak escaped her as she bolted under the covers of the bed. Starlight rolled her eyes.

“You asleep under there?” Starlight prodded the figure under the blanket.
“No!” She flung the covers back and saw Trixie huddled into a ball.
“Scootch over, Trix, you're hogging the bed!” Trixie huffed and unfolded herself. Her back was facing Starlight. She felt the weight of the bed shift as the other pony laid next to her. Her heart was racing and she started to wonder if Starlight could hear it.. or feel it?!
"How am I supposed to sleep now?!" Trixie thought.
“Goodnight, Trix!” Starlight said to her as she killed the lights in the room.
“Goodnight..”

The lightning outside was so bright the whole room lit up for a second. A clap of thunder followed. The bed moved with every flinch Trixie made. She let out a big sigh.
“Please…. just let Trixie sleep..” She whispered to herself. The small bed shifted as Starlight did next to her. Trixie felt the other press against her back and wrap a forearm around her. Her rapid heartbeat surfaced again. “S-starlight?” She said in a loud whisper.
“Just trust me.”
“What?! What do you mean?! Why are you still awake?!” She managed to keep the same quiet tone.
“You keep shaking the bed!” She gave her a squeeze. “Now just relax.” Trixie sucked a deep breath in and held it for a few seconds. “The thunder and lightning can't hurt you from in here. You're safe, Trix.” She let out the air she held captive and shut her eyes. She actually did feel a lot better thanks to the other pony’s embrace.
“This feels.. so right.” Trixie thought. It didn't take long for her to finally fall asleep.
“Thank Celestia,” Starlight whispered to herself. She leaned forward to press a goodnight kiss behind Trixie’s ear. “Goodnight, Trix.”
