The kid was rushed to the Emergency wing,  Flurry following closely behind. It was a small,blue pegasus 
filly with yellow tips at her hooves. Her mane was a two-toned blue and she had freckles. Flurry couldn't see her eye color ,but she could see the scars and bruises on her body. After a few minutes,Nurse Redheart came to speak with Flurry. 
"It's a good thing you found her Princess. Her mom gets black-out wasted and then kicks her out . We hadn't seen her in a while so we thought the mom got help but apparently she just hasn't been coming. Every time she gets kicked out she stays the night here but the next morning she gets beat. She's too weak to interact with us but we're going to get social services involved. If you hadn't found her she'd be dead." Flurry was on the brink of tears. On one hand,she wanted to save the little filly but on the other she was mad that a mother would do that to their foal."
"What's her name? I'll adopt her." Flurry said without thinking.  Nurse Redheart was suprised but the alicorn was dead serious. 
"That's a very impulsive descision,your Highness. But her name is Rare Bloom. I must warn you adoption is a very lengthy process but I will get the adoption papers for you. " As the Nurse left,Flurry stood over the foal. She was quite chubby but cute. Flurry knew that she would be a good mother,she just didn't know if she was ready. Nurse Redheart came back with a stack of papers. Flurry thanked her before teleporting back to the castle and collapsing into bed.

"Morning,niece" Twilight said as she poured herself some tea. Flurry was not in the mood for talking. She couldn't help thinking about the pile of papers on her dresser and Rare Bloom. What if she wasn't meant for motherhood? What would everypony think?.
"Flurry. Equestria to Flurry Heart" Twilight waved a hoof in front of her neice's face. 
"Yes? Sorry just tired" that wasn't exactly a lie,she was tired from being out all night. 
"I asked you if you wanted some cereal little sleepyhead" Twilight giggled. 
"Oh sure. By the way I'm gonna be out all day shopping and stuff." Flurry replied.
Twilight poured the alicorn her cereal into a purple bowl " That's fine , I'll be busy anyway. Have fun" 
She gobbled down her cereal before rushing back up to her room. There she saw Starlight looking through her things. 
"I-I'm sorry your Highness! I remembered one of the twins left something in this room and-I'm sorry I should have asked. " Flurry's horn sparked ,a sign that she was about to scream but she managed to calm down. She walked in and closed the door behind her. 
"Her name is Rare Bloom I found her on the streets last night. She's been through some stuff. She was gonna go into Social services anyway. My best friend was in foster care as a filly. She was lucky enough to get adopted quickly but with Rare ,she might stay in the system. I want to adopt her. You can't  tell Twilight."
Starlight hesitated before responding "My lips are sealed. I'll just find the toy. "
Flurry got to work on her papers. After about an hour she was ready to go. She quickly grabbed something from her bag and headed to the hospital.
Rare Bloom had been moved into a normal room,which was a good sign. Flurry didn't know how to approach her,so she walked slowly to the bed. Setting the papers on the nightstand, she levitated the object over to the filly.
"Sweetie,my name is Flurry Heart",she spoke softly,almost inaudible "I'm the one who found you. The nurse told you've been through a lot and I would like to adopt you. " The little foal stirred and barely opened her eyes.
Flurry gave the object to the filly, "This is Whammy. He was my favorite toy when I was little. I want you to take good care of him."  The little filly slowly opened her beautiful bronze eyes. They were cold but somewhere deep inside there was still a glimmer of excitement. The filly hugged the toy tightly.
"Are you my new Mama?" Rare asked looking at the alicorn. "My old Mama was a scary monster. " 
Flurry was conflicted. On one hoof she was planning to adopt the young foal, but on the other it hadn't been finalized yet.
Flurry became uneasy "I'm not your mama yet but once you get better I will be. There was a light giggle from the doorway. Nurse Redheart had been standing there the whole time.
"You two are so cute.",she said as she walked into the room.
"Flurry Heart I need to talk to Rare,so you'll need to step outside. Patient confidentiality and all that" The alicorn understood and walked out. The few minutes felt like an eternity before she was finally let back in. 
Rare looked like she had seen somepony die ,while Nurse Redheart just looked solemn. "She's sick with Posion Fever. She can't leave the hospital",the nurse told Flurry.  The alicorn was devastated,she blinked away the tears and looked at the poor foal. Nurse Redheart continued "As for you,your highness. All your paperwork is in order. ",she grabbed a form from the pile "Except for this signature form. Since you are under the legal adoption age ,you need to get this consent form signed by your parents. I'm assuming they don't know. ",the alicorn nodded her head. Nurse Redheart gave one last look at her patient before walking out the room. The alicorn sat on a nearby chair and wrote a letter explaining her situation to her parents. She attached the form to it before mailing it off. The alicorn spent the rest of the day in and out of the hospital watching over her future daughter.
