Good Night Citizens!

by Silver Shadows

Chapter 1

“Welcome back sister, to our castle,” Princess Celetia said, smiling warmly at her sister. Princess Luna looked from the carriage, held her head high, in a very regal pose. The princess of the night was not used to the afternoon, as she preferred to sleep during daytime.

Princess Luna said in a more normal voice, “Thank you sister. We thank you for sending Twilight Sparkle and her friends to save us.” The princess of the sun smiled sadly at the memory of blasting her own sister to the moon. Celestia had regretted to face her sister for a long time by now but she could see that her sister was grateful for her actions. Perhaps the moon had very good moonpie, Celestia remembered that Luna adored them.

Celestia said, “There has been quite a lot of change. I will make an announcement and you can start your duties as the princess of the night tomorrow.”

“Thank you sister. Now, we have a question.”

“Yes?”

Princess Luna stares at her straight in the eyes, “Are you dating Twilight Sparkle?”

“No!” Celestia shouted, a little bit too loud, “I’m not!”

“We remember when you have embraced Twilight Sparkle in your hooves. Is that not a tradition anymore? We suppose that you have ended the tradition of ending the mare and stallion relationships too. We know that you had a great disdain to it.”

Celestia shook her head, “No, it’s not a royal tradition anymore. I’m sure that you can visit the library later to see what you have missed.” Celestia said that in a causal tone, as if Luna had missed one of Starswirl’s classes. Actually, Celestia regretted with comparing it to missing one of Starswirl’s classes. The bearded unicorn was much more scarier than he looked.

Luna nodded, “Very well, sister. We shall check the library out.”

Soon, the royal guards pulled in and the carriage stopped. The horn blew and many of the citizens stepped forwards to see the princess. Luna was greeted by the sights of the palace, the ribbons around. The shocked faces swarmed around them and the stoic royal guards had trouble keeping their faces straight. Celestia and Luna stepped up to the podium, waiting for the crowd to quiet. Well, one of them was, not the other one.

Quiet down, ponies,” Luna yelled in her royal Canterlot voice, “Do you not have any respect for your princesses anymore? It is true that we have returned.” The ponies shook in fear as all of them bows down. Even Prince Blueblood, who was standing next to the royal alicorn, got knocked down by the sheer power of her voice.

Princess Celestia addressed the crowd, “No need to fear, my little ponies... Princess Luna here is just... ... ...having some adjustment issues. I’m sure that Prince Blueblood will be delighted to show my sister around as I answer your questions.” Prince Blueblood looked like he would rather get blasted to the moon than to show Luna around, but he nodded with a forced smile on his face.

Princess Luna shouted, “Thank you sister. I will be around the castle. I will go back to my position as the princess of the night tomorrow.” She left with a shaking Prince Blueblood, who looked like he ate a frog.

The princess of the night asked, “Where are we going?

Prince Blueblood rolled his eyes, “Learn to control your voice, Nightmare Moon. I mean, Princess Luna. Are you sure that you don’t have any Nightmare in there anymore?”

This is the Royal Canterlot voice and we shall use it to talk..”

“Are you saying that I’m not a prince? I have done many economic changes with other empires and places to benefit Equestria. I have even helped the servants clean the library three times!”

Princess Luna replied hesitantly, “We see that there has been some changes in becoming royalty. Tell me now, how many princes and princesses are there in Equestria?

Prince Blueblood stuffed cotton in his ears, deciding that cleaning his ears was better than becoming deaf, “Three princesses and I’m the only prince here.”

Pray tell, who is the other princess?

“Princess Mi Amore Cadenza. Most ponies here call her Princess Cadence for short. She’s the princess of love.”

Love? I suppose that she’s an unicorn..”

“Alicorn,” Prince Blueblood corrected with a tone of annoyance.

A natural born alicorn is very strange. Has sister poisoned her?”

“I don’t know how she became an alicorn. I heard that she defeated a witch or something and then became a princess.”

A witch?

Prince Blueblood rolled his eyes, “Quiet or you’ll startle all the guards and I wouldn’t have a quiet dinner.”

But the Royal Canterlot voice-

“Is no longer used now.” My poor poor ears.

“Should I speak like this then?!”

“Lower,” he commanded the princess of the night.

Luna used the tone that she used in a private conversation, “Like… this?”

“Yes. This is the library,” he motioned to the place, opening the doors with his magic. He usually didn’t open the doors but he wasn’t sure if the other one would shout at the door or something. Also, he remembered when Celestia used to prank him in the most unladylike way by pouring soda upon whoever opened her door for any reason. That was why he always told a passing servant to do so for him. Of course, Celestia didn’t bother him as much anymore, since he was taking care of tax, and money and some regulations. Apparently, his new job was to babysit this princess as well now. Please tell me that this is a prank, Celestia.

Luna glanced at the place, “‘Tis more books than we recall.” Luna trotted in first. Prince Blueblood followed but as soon as his hooves went over the threshold, egg yolk hit his horn from above.

Luna commented, “Tia put your magical signature in her pranks.”

Blueblood blinked, “What?”

“Everypony able to do magic has a magic signature. There are ways to-“

“I don’t care anymore. I’ll just have somepony else open the door. Anyways, enjoy the library. I’ll be back in thirty minutes. I need to clean this.” Princess Luna nodded in understanding, watching the unicorn run out the door. She turned to the door and broke Celestia’s spell, deciding that it was what friends do. Was Prince Blueblood her friend? He didn’t shake nor just obey her just because she was a princess. Princess Luna decided to consider him as her friend since they had talked. She wondered if Celestia would agree on it. After a few minutes, she took a book and began reading.

Prince Blueblood returns after four hours, saying, “It’s almost nighttime. Let me escort you to your quarters and I will leave.”

Luna put the book back, “Thank you, friend. We have also disabled Tia’s spell on the door. You no longer need to be afraid of this one.”

“Th-Thanks?”

“You’re welcome.” They shared a smile, Princess Luna’s lips slightly curled up as Prince Blueblood curved his mouth upward, before going back to their usual facial expressions and leaving the library.

“Good evening sister,” Luna said, “We have noticed that there hasn’t been any moon pies on the table.”

Celestia chuckled nervously, “Now sister, it’s been a thousand years and… and the recipe has been-“

“Evolved into an even better moonpie? Terrific! This is indeed some good news. We will speak to the ponies in the kitchens about this new moonpie you speak of. Shall I raise the moon now?”

“Go ahead Luna.” Luna closed her eyes and she raised the Moon slowly, allowing the moonlight glow bright. It was brighter than what most ponies were used to, but the Moon had been as bright as that night before she had been banished. Celestia had never gotten night magic as well as she has.

Luna said, “Good night sister.”

Celestia gave her a smile, “Night sister.” Her sister trotted away and fell asleep on her bed.

Luna looked around, making sure that it is peaceful before giving the usual royal ‘all clear’ command, “Good night citizens!
