Starlight Glimmer, Princess Twilight's protegee, was a brilliant Unicorn. She had mastered a lot of spells, being even more powerful than Twilight herself. She had also made a lot of friends including Trixie, Thorax and Discord. With her help, Queen Chrysalis was defeated, the Pony of Shadows was reformed and the Pillars of Equestria came back home.
Today, however, Starlight looked worried. Twilight noted that, and she decided to talk with her.
"Starlight? Is everything ok?" Twilight asked.
"Yeah. I was just thinking about Chrysalis." Starlight answered. "Every changeling was reformed, with Thorax being the first one. I wish that happened with Chrysalis."
"We could have tried to reform her, but she flew away." Twilight said.
"I still remember the moment when she slapped my hoof. If only things had been different..." Starlight wondered. Just a few seconds later, something popped in her mind. "Wait... If only things had been different! Of course!"
"What is it, Starlight?" Twilight said.
"Twilight, remember when we had our second confrontation?" Starlight asked.
"You mean when we traveled in time? Like I could forget it." Twilight said.
"What did I use for that time-travel?" Starlight asked.
"Oh, that's easy! You used Star Swirl's time-travel... No." Twilight said.
"What?" Starlight said.
"Nononononono! I had enough after fighting against you while dealing with former versions of villains we defeated! My answer is no. I'm not gonna travel back in time." Twilight stated.
"Of course you're not gonna do it! I will!" Starlight said. Twilight looked at her, puzzled.
"Would you really do that?" Twilight asked.
"That image of Chrysalis snarling at me and swearing revenge is not pleasant. I want to change it. I want to change her! Twilight, please!" Starlight explained.
Twilight pondered about what Starlight was saying, until she had an answer.
"Ok, you might try. The only thing you would need is Star Swirl's time-travel spell. I don't know if Princesses Celestia and Luna could have it at Canterlot, but we can see." Twilight said.
"Sure thing. Shall we go now?" Starlight said.
"Well, Spike is having a long and nice nap, so it shouldn't be a problem. Let's go." Twilight said, and they went to the train station.
A while later, Starlight and Twilight were at the Canterlot Archives.
"The Princesses wouldn't have told us where Star Swirl's spell was located if I didn't convince them." Starlight said.
"Indeed, and I suppose the fact that Chrysalis showed rage before escaping also made them agree with your idea." Twilight replied.
"By the way, where was the scroll?" Starlight asked.
"Here!"
Starlight looked around, noticing they were at Star Swirl The Bearded Wing of Canterlot Archives.
"Wow... There's a lot of scrolls!" Starlight said, amazed by the sight.
"I know, right? Star Swirl created all of them, and they are storaged here! He's really amazing! Anyways, here's the scroll." Twilight said as she gave Starlight the time-travel parchment. Unwinding it, they confirmed it was the right spell.
"That must be one of my spells, right?"
They turned around looking at the source of the voice: Star Swirl The Bearded.
"Hey, Star Swirl! We were just looking at some of your spells, because you're so good at creating spells, and we were w-" Twilight was interrupted when Star Swirl raised his hoof.
"Twilight, I wouldn't need to be a powerful magician for knowing you could be trying to do something with my spells. While on the subject, I would like to know what you are doing with my time-travel spell." Star Swirl explained.
"Well, um... Do you know about Chrysalis?" Starlight asked.
"Oh, Chrysalis. I remember meeting her when she was young, and her mother was the Changeling Queen." Star Swirl said.
"Really? I didn't know about that." Twilight said.
"Yes, she was. A thousand years ago, ponies and changelings coexisted in harmony, and these last ones were as nice and beautiful as ponies. One day, however, we sensed some kind of magic spreading around Equestria. Buildings floated in the air, the surface got covered in a checkered pattern. But the changelings suffered the most. They lost their colors and started doing something horrible: feeding with love from ponies." Star Swirl explained.
"What!?" Twilight and Starlight exclaimed.
"Before the Pony of Shadows appeared, I finally heard that Chrysalis would be their new Queen. In fact, we confronted the Pony of Shadows in such a bad moment. The Chaotic Era. The Rise of Discord." Star Swirl explained.
"Starlight, Discord was another villain who messed with us, but we eventually reformed him." Twilight said.
"That's a relief. Anyways, Star Swirl? I was looking for your time-travel spell because I thought it could help me for going back to the moment when Chrysalis got defeated by us. Maybe things could be better if she was reformed." Starlight said.
"Ah, I understand what you say, Starlight Glimmer. It's a big risk, though. You must take care for not commiting any mistakes." Star Swirl said.
"Thanks for the advice, Star Swirl. I'll use the spell and go there." Starlight said.
"And I'll go with you. If Chrysalis sees me, it could give us more chances for reforming her." Star Swirl said.
"I'll be waiting for you two. Take care." Twilight said, as Starlight and Star Swirl nodded.
Twilight took some steps back as the other two activated the spell, creating a portal which they crossed.
They arrived at the Changeling Hive, moments after the victory against Queen Chrysalis. Twilight and her friends, Discord, the Princesses and a mix of ponies and reformed changelings were there. Starlight saw herself in front of the defeated Chrysalis.
Meanwhile, everyone was surprised to see Star Swirl, who conjured a shield enveloping Chrysalis so she didn't escape.
"Star Swirl? Were have you been?" She asked.
"Trapped inside the Limbo. We were fighting the Pony of Shadows." Star Swirl said. "For you, I guess things didn't go exactly well."
"Ugh... Let me go! You already defeated me, what else do you want?" Chrysalis asked, angry because of every thing that was happening.
"We want you to join us, Chrysalis." Starlight said.
"Never!" Chrysalis snarled.
"Want to know what happened? Maybe Discord has the answers." Star Swirl whispers for Starlight, who looked at the draconequus.
"Discord! I suppose something happened a thousand years ago? Between changelings and your chaos?" Starlight asked.
Discord rubbed his chin as he put a pair of glasses on his face and looked at a list he had. Two seconds later...
"Oh, I'm stupid. You know my chaos had spread to all of Equestria, don't you?" Discord said.
"Yes, I know that. Why?" Starlight said.
"Well, I think my chaos... also infected the changelings, turning them... into dark, love-eating versions of them." Discord said, chuckling nervously.
Chrysalis snarled furiously as Discord took a step back.
"You ruined our lives, you idiot!" Chrysalis said.
"I didn't even know you existed in the first place!" Discord replied.
"ENOUGH!" Starlight yelled, getting their attention. Star Swirl put the shield off, while Discord got beside them.
"Couldn't you two forgive each other? Things would be easier." Starlight asked.
"In fact, now that I thought about it, I could do something, Chrissy." Discord noted.
"What is it?" Chrysalis asked.
"Forgive me for the mistakes I made, and I'll get your former self back. What do you think?" Discord said.
"I'm... not sure about it." Chrysalis replied, starting to worry.
"You can always get back to feed yourself by sharing love. I promise it won't be a problem." Star Swirl said. This time, Chrysalis looked at the floor.
"Chrysalis, please, I'm begging you. Stay with us." Starlight said.
Chrysalis didn't know what to do. She could try to escape, but would she be able to do it with Star Swirl watching her? And if she flew away, where would she go?
"It's my fault. Once we got infected by Discord's magic, we went mad instead of trying to talk with him. I should have done that in the first place. I'm... sorry." Chrysalis explained, closing her eyes.
"It's ok. I should have tried to control myself, but I guess things went the other way. I'm sorry." Discord said.
"There we go. How do you feel, Chrysalis?" Starlight asked.
"I feel... strange... Like I had something inside me." Chrysalis answered.
"That's an emotion. It could help you being more peaceful with others. Would you like to join us?" Starlight asked, raising her hoof.
Chrysalis wondered about the question and then, a genuine smile appeared on her face.
"It would be an honor..." Chrysalis said, reaching for Starlight's hoof.
Suddenly, a bright flash of light covered Chrysalis, and everyone else covered their eyes until the light vanished. Looking again, a marveling sight was there: Chrysalis had changed, and her beautiful design looked almost like Thorax's.
"You can start learning about Friendship when we get back to Ponyville." Starlight said, smiling as Chrysalis grinned happily.
When Starlight looked at Star Swirl, the wizard nodded as his horn brightened, teleporting the two of them.
Back in Canterlot Archives, Twilight watched as Starlight and Star Swirl reappeared.
"Did something happen here, Twilight?" Star Swirl asked.
"I felt something odd, like time was changing. And then, I saw Chrysalis talking with the Princesses. She is reformed!" Twilight cheered as she went outside, Starlight looking at her with a nice smile.
"Well, I have to admit it: your idea was sensational, Starlight." Star Swirl said.
"Heh, thank you so much, Star Swirl." Starlight replied.
"You're welcome. Shall we see our new friend?" Star Swirl said.
"Sure, let's go." Starlight answered.
And they went outside to see the reformed Chrysalis. Life was gonna be better.
