The Bloody Reel

Rainbow and Fluttershy we’re sitting in Rainbow’s room as they were just finishing their screening of Slasher. The two girls began to giggle as the film came to an end. “Another successful movie night.” Rainbow stated as she took out the dvd and placed it back into its case.

“The camera work was amazing, but I feel like there was something missing from it.” Fluttershy added, “It didn’t feel like it truly ended, but it was begging for a sequel.”

“I guess.” Rainbow replied, “Hey, I just got an idea.”

“Oh, what is it?” Fluttershy asked.

“We start our own movie podcast!” Rainbow exclaimed, “Think about it, almost everyone likes horror films and we have the perfect dynamic; a pure fan, and a critical eye.”

Fluttershy leaned back a bit by the thought. The idea of her opinions being online for thousands to hear and think over just shook her down to the bone. “Are you sure that is a good idea Rainbow.” She asked.

Rainbow was taken by surprise by her friend’s comment; sure watching horror movies together was just their thing but there was no denying Fluttershy and her eye when it came to critiquing horror media.

“Oh come on Flutters, it’ll be fun, look we don’t even need to use our real names.” Rainbow said, “We can even do an easy flick.” She began looking through her collection of movies until she saw the film she was talking about, “Here it is! We’ll talk about Artic Terror!”

Fluttershy perked up at the name of the film, “Oh boy, I heard good thing about this one, a real classic.”

“Then let’s get started!” Rainbow said with a wide grin, “This is gonna be fun!”

As the week went on the two began the process of making their podcast; from writing their notes, getting equipment properly set up, to getting a logo set up. Eventually the two were ready for the recording. “You ready Fluttershy?” Rainbow asked.

Fluttershy was in the middle of some deep breathing exercises as she nodded her head, without hesitation the recording began with a spooky jingle.

“Greetings everyone, welcome to the Bloody Reel Horror podcast. This is Spectrum and Wolf speaking.

“Hello.” Fluttershy nervously said.

“Today we are going to review a classic film simply known as Artic Terror. Now as someone who loves horror movies this film felt slow at the beginning, but I get the idea that they need to establish character and whatever, but I was hoping for some real action to happen.”

“Well when the suspense started it was interesting that it felt more like a character study with how little the people working in the complex trusted each other. It really impacted me when the monster attacked.” Fluttershy added as she read through her notes, her critic instincts taking over.

“Oh yeah the monster!” Rainbow interjected, “That thing was freaky, and when it impersonated the scientist and the security guard...” Rainbow couldn’t even finish her sentence without shuddering.

“The practical effects used were amazing, the torn open bodies almost looked lifelike when the blood poured out of the wounds, but I lost it when those poor dogs turned into the monster.” Fluttershy said as she remembered the exact scene where the complex’ dog team turned into an amalgamous blob.

“Yeah that bit was messed up, but what made up for it was the ending.” Rainbow stated, “It was surprising to see how open ended it was.”

“Oh yes, while I feel better with concrete endings with my movies, I think this movie made the open ended ending better than Slasher, especially since it did have a sequel.”

“You think we should do that film next time?” Rainbow asked.

“Maybe, but I think we should tackle Masked Lunatic Massacre I feel like there’s so much we can talk about.”

“Well other than that I think this went well.” Rainbow said, “I say this film was a solid five out of five.”

“Agreed.” Fluttershy added, “Well thank you all for listening.” With that the podcast ended recording.

“And now we wait for the views.” Rainbow said as she closed out of the webpage.

The next day the two girls were going through school, and it seems that nothing was different other than a few off looks. “Do you think they saw the podcast?” Fluttershy asked.

“Possibly, I mean it was a slow upload day for other podcasters.” Rainbow replied, the two girls talked more about the situation until they ran into Sunset Shimmer.

“Hey girls.” Sunset said, “What are you two up to?”

“Oh nothing.” Fluttershy sheepishly said.

“Yeah, we were just heading to class.” Rainbow said.

The excuses the two gave were not convincing Sunset, her gaze pierced through their facades. It was clear she knew something they didn’t want to know. “I know about the podcast girls.”

The girls looked completely shocked, “How did you know?” Rainbow asked, completely flabbergasted.

“Well for one thing, those names were an easy giveaway.” Sunset said with a smug grin, “Maybe try to think some more creative names.”

“Out of all we did in making the podcast, names were the last thing we thought about.” Fluttershy said.

“So is that all you wanted to tell us about?” Rainbow asked.

Sunset looked around, “Well... I wanted to ask you guys something. Can I join you guys for the next one?”

“Really?”

“Yeah, I heard it and I wanted to talk about some of my favorite horror films.” Sunset pulled out a DVD case from her backpack, “Should we do a quick one about the Arborville Horror series?”

Fluttershy quickly hid behind Rainbow at the mere mentioning of that franchise.

“Uhhh.... Why don’t we just focus on something that doesn’t make animals as the monster?” Rainbow asked, “What about Never Ending Nightmare?

“Great!” Sunset exclaimed, “I’ll see you guys later tonight.” She then walked off to wherever her next class was.

“Did we just inadvertently start a movie club?” Fluttershy asked, completely confused from the conversation.

“Yeah, I think we just did.” Rainbow said with a smirk.
