//------------------------------// // Just Another Day In... Equestria?! // Story: Anthropology // by SleepingPegasus //------------------------------// March 24 11:55 PM I am in a rather precarious situation. Before I explain where I've been the last seven or so months, I should explain a few things. My name is Lewis Mercer. I am 17 years old at the time I'm writing this, 16 during the ordeal. I am a human. Now, normally it would feel strange for me to have to explain that, but just follow along. I promise I'll start making some sense. I've been in the My Little Pony fandom for a few years now. Really don't know why or how I even got into the series. My friend showed me the show, and it just stuck with me. Now, before I lose you all to my uneventful life, I'm going to start explaining. Explaining how it is, I ended up walking out of my own world. And explain how, because of a cyan pony, I ended up in Equestria of all places. I'll be filling in what Lewis here wouldn't know Lyra Heartstrings This is going to be the point where our little story takes over. We might chime in now and again to explain certain parts. Wow. I say explain a lot, don't I? Don't look at me. You're the weird human. Guess we should start with my side of the story. And don't you dare make me sound like a mad mare. So help me. It just your average day in Ponyville. With, of course, your average coming and goings of its equine inhabitants. That did not exclude a certain aquamarine mare. Lyra Heartstrings darted across the streets of Ponyville, several sheets of paper rolled up and held by her magic. The thing was, those weren't music sheets, or paper to be used for music sheets. The papers she was carrying were part of Lyra's biggest project yet. For countless years, Lyra had been working to figure out a way to build a window of sorts into a world far stranger than the Equestrian one she lived in. She wanted to peer into the world of humans. [It wasn't exactly private knowledge that Lyra Heartstrings had an obscene obsession with these otherworldly creatures. Just to see if the myths revolving around them were true. That was all she wanted. And with this window, she would, if her research was correct, be able to observe the human world. [I would hardly call it an obsession. What? Don't look at me like that. With her blueprints held in her magic, she trampled into her house, covering all her windows with drapes. Believing strongly on her detailed research, Lrya spent the next multiple months of on and off sleepless nights working to make her vision a reality. Finally, after a few [mishaps, the {Multi Reality Window was completed. All that was left to do was to turn it on and observe. [What is that supposed to mean? {Trademark. Don't you steal. It took Lrya a few extra days of pacing back and forth, [arguing whether or not this whole thing was worth it; the chances that all of this will just blow up in her face and be a complete waste, if she lived that is. Finally, she grew the courage to turn her machine on. [I am not that... Okay. Fine. I may have spent a week's worth of time doing that. But shut up. Life was breathed into her creation. Everything was starting to spring to life. Across the screen that would display the world of humans began to light up, displaying a partial bird's eye view of an actual human. Lyra's eyes lit up with fascination. That was a human. An actual human. She huddled closer to the screen, placing her hoof on it. The myths may have been a tad bit incorrect with how they described the appearance of humans, but the majority of the information was correct. Heavily clothed, creatures baring minimal in the area of hair or fur on their bodies. This was exactly what Lyra had been looking forward to. However, just as she was on the verge of celebrating, the display grew fuzzy and the machine started to choke. Lyra panicked, swiftly tapping at the side to get it working again. Right before her eyes, the screen shattered, and directly after, the machine blew up, sending Lyra slamming against the far wall. She sat up, coughing out more or less a lung. The cloud of dust and smoke was still settling, but it was clear something was laying in the center of the cloud. Its features were obscured, but it was clear, whatever it was, wasn't a pony, or anything that looked like it belonged in Equestria. As the cloud faded, Lyra's eyes widened greatly. What her eyes had now fallen on was indeed something outside this world... Dun Dun Duuuuun. What?! It was perfect timing. Shouldn't be too hard to figure out what happened. But before we continue, I should explain my side of these events. Okay. Let me just put this out there. My life blows. Ever since my mom and I moved and I started Middle School, I've had almost zero interactions with the people around me. I say almost zero because technically being bullied and pushed around counts as an interaction. Yup. That was my life. All the way into High School. It wasn't until then, that I'd meet the kid who is now my one and only close friend. It was through him that I was introduced to the fandom of My Little Pony. I had heard about it growing up, but never put any thought to it. "No way I'd be interested in something meant for girls." Is what I'd say to myself. If only I knew how much of the show I'd adore. It didn't take long before the show became the only thing me and my friend would talk about. We'd plan our schedules around the upcoming seasons, design our own OCs, and even save up money to go to a convention or two. And I know what you're saying. I sound like an obsessive fan. Which I will not deny. My Little Pony was more than a show to me. It was a strong link between me and my friend. One that helped me make other friends. But enough of that. You want to hear my side of how I ended up in Equestria. June 25 8:30pm (22 hours before the 'incident') I was on my way back from the friend's house after marathoning every episode of the show up-to-date, as well as planning out our schedule for the upcoming convention. The streets were barren and dark, illuminated only by the stagnated street lights along the sidewalk. There was the occasional car passing by, but besides that, I was alone. I got home just before 9 o'clock, settling into my room. My eyes traced across the various MLP merchandise I owned; the comics I've read countless times. The numerous figurines on my shelves. And the cosplay of my OC that I had commissioned for conventions. That right there cost a heavy pretty penny, but it was worth it. Yeah and I'm the obsessive fan. Anyway. My life since I started High School was great. I still got bullied and pushed around, but at least I had a friend to look towards for help, or to at least run and get help. The following day went by as it usually did. We planned on meeting up after school again to finalize the last bits of our convention schedule. Who was buying what foodwise. What we were bringing. And most of all, how much money we were aiming to mooch from our parents for convention goodies. Somewhere into our discussions, my friend brought up a rather weird question. "What would you do if you just round up in Equestria?" The question caught me off guard. These kinds of hypothetical questions weren't too uncommon for him. It was just the fact that I was just pondering that question myself when he asked. Denying the excitement of such an unlikely event coming to pass, I told him it would be great, but then my homework would start piling up. And that was not going to fly with my mother. Staying on that question, I asked what he thought would happen if either side jumped to the other. If someone from this world went to Equestria, or vice versa. Basing his idea off of what happened when Doctor Who ended up there, he said; "We humans would change to match the inhabitants of their world. Same if they came here." We nodded in agreement before breaking into laughter. We were total nerds. With the entire schedule planned out, replanned out, and then completely revised, I made my way home. The time was like 6 o'clock so the streets were still fairly crowded. As I walked home, my friend's question repeated in my head. "What if I did end up in Equestria? Would the ponies accept a sudden outsider? Even if I was another pony. And what if I was still a human? What would they think of me? I could only imagine how they'd react, seeing such a strange creature." I got home, putting my thoughts back to the back of my head. "Wonderful thoughts aside. Time to act like a normal teen. A normal, hungry teen." I reached for the doorknob. As soon as I touched it, I felt the world around me start spinning. It felt like my legs had been kicked out from beneath me. I should know. That has happened a lot to me. Everything around me went dark and my ears popped. My world had gone dead silent. As suddenly as this all happened, my senses returned to me, bringing with it a heavy headache. It felt like someone took a 2-by-4 across my head. In between the groans of pain from me, I heard the sound of coughing somewhere nearby. I opened my eyes only to shut them quickly due to the amount of dust around me. "Where..." As soon as I started talking, I started coughing. Oh great. I hated the taste of dust, and dirt, in my mouth. I coughed up a lung, finishing my sentence. "... am I?" The dust settled, allowing my eyes to meet with someone else's eyes. For a moment I didn't believe what my eyes were seeing. For several moments in fact. Of all the weird things I could possibly have stared blankly at while laying on my side in a pile of destroyed machinery, I never expected to be staring at a pony. An actual, colorful pony. Her aquamarine coat and cyan mane both had bits of dust in it. Wait; Aquamarine coat. Cyan mane. The rather dumbfounded look of fascination in her eyes. I stood up slowly, watching her eyes remain lock on mine. Coughing once more, I speak. "You wouldn't happen to be Lyra Heartstrings... Right..?" Oh no. By just mentioning her name to her, I could see the dramatic urge to squeal building up. She nodded excitedly, violently shaking the dust out of her mane. And that, ladies, gentlemen, and ponies alike, is how I ended up in going from my front door into the land of Equestria. There's more to the story, but I think we should stop here. The phone I'm using to record is about to di
