The Wonderbolts Show

…....................................
-Friday morning, day of Wonderbolts show-
…....................................

“I can’t believe today’s the day! The day mom and dad get to show off their awesome flying skills in front of everypony at Canterlot!” Blaze whispered excitedly to Starlight, who sat next to him in the living room.

“Yeah, it’s going to be so cool!” Starlight responded. “Maybe they’ll get famous!”

“And then we’ll be famous, and get whatever we want!” Blaze added.

The siblings heard hoofsteps behind them, slowly getting louder as they approached.

“Okay, let’s not get carried away.” Flash said as he stepped into the room.

Blaze turned to him. “Hey, you never know what could happen!” He mentioned.

“Yes, I’m pretty sure we’ll get many admirers, but that’s about it.” Flash replied.

Starlight spoke up. “By the way, where’s mom?”

“Still sleeping.” Flash answered. “I’ve never seen her sleep in that long.”

“She sure did on Sunday morning, after what happened the previous night.” Blaze added.

Flash turned to him suddenly. “What did you just say?”

“I said you and mom did a lot in bed on Saturday night, it’s no wonder she slept in the next morning.” He repeated.

Flash’s eyes went wide. “Oh Blaze...tell me you weren’t watching that...”

“I saw the whole thing. You should really lock the door if you’re planning on getting private with each other.”

Starlight leaned back on the couch, amazed at what was happening.

“Well maybe you shouldn’t be snooping around in other pony’s business!” Flash ordered.

“I was just coming in to ask for a granola bar!” Blaze shot back.

“Well you could have left after seeing the door closed!” Flash returned.

“Well, I got curious after hearing some noises.”

Starlight put a hoof up to her mouth. “Omigosh...” She mumbled.

The trio heard another set of hooves coming down the hall. Seconds later, Rainbow Dash emerged, her mane a mess from bedhead.

She yawned, then said, “What’s going on out here? Sounds like an argument.”

Flash sighed. “I’ll tell you later.” He said, still looking at Blaze.

Rainbow looked at Flash, and then at Blaze, and then back at Flash again.

“Oh no, what did he do this time?” Rainbow asked. She knew her family well enough to know that there was some tension going on here.

“I told you, it’s a private matter. I’ll tell you later.” Flash said.

Blaze spoke up immediately. “Dad’s mad because I saw you two going at it last Saturday night.”

“That’s it! Blaze, to your room! I’ll speak with you later!” Flash raged.

“Okay.” Blaze reluctantly walked to his room, and Starlight followed.

The room was empty now, except for Rainbow and Flash.

Rainbow did a facehoof. “Ohh, this isn’t good.” She mumbled.

Flash put a hoof on her shoulder. “Don’t worry about it, this is all a minor issue that’ll blow over quickly. We should stay focused on the show this evening.”

…....................................

Later that afternoon, Flash was at the shopping district buying some fruit for a new dinner, when he bumped into Fluttershy.

“Hey Shy! What’s going on?”

“Nothing, just getting some ingredients for Angel. She’s so picky sometimes.” She replied softly.

“Oh, you found your pet after that accident so long ago?” Flash asked.

“Yes, you just can’t keep her away for long.” Fluttershy joked. “How’ve you been doing?”

Flash sighed. “Not as good as I’d hoped. Blaze is getting into me and Dash’s personal business.”

“Oh my, I think I know what you mean. That must be embarrassing.”

“Yeah, you’re telling me. I just hope it’ll be blown over by the show tonight.” He said.

“Oh yeah, the show. I can’t wait to see you and Rainbow Dash in action!” Fluttershy quietly said.

“Is there something wrong, you seem very quiet.” Flash asked.

“Oh nothing, I’m always like this.” Fluttershy responded.

“Well, okay. See you later!” Flash said as he walked off.

….................................

When Flash had finally finished his shopping, he approached his front door and opened it.

He set his filled saddlebag on the table to deal with later, and turned to the living room. There he found Rainbow Dash sleeping on the couch.

He also noticed someone had put whipped cream on her hoof.

Great, more conflict ready to be set off.

Flash entered the kitchen to get a paper towel so he could wipe the cream off her hoof. He acquired what he needed, then headed back to the living room.

He gently picked up Rainbow’s hoof, and started to wipe it clean. While doing so, Rainbow stirred around, and softly woke up.

“Flash, what are you doing with my hoof?” Rainbow asked.

Flash chuckled. “I was just wiping it off, it had a bunch of whipped cream on it.”

“Whipped cream? How did that get there?” She asked.

“I suspect Blaze put it there to pull a prank on you. A prank that I just foiled.” Flash answered. He smiled and winked.

Rainbow laughed. “That you did!”

Flash looked down to check his watch. “We have to meet our friends to head for Canterlot in an hour. Better get ready.”

Rainbow yawned. “Can I nap just a little longer first?”

Flash thought for a moment. “I really think we should start getting ready.”

Rainbow frowned. “Okay.”

“Why so down? This is your first time as a Wonderbolt. You should be thrilled!”

Rainbow’s expression changed. “You’re right!”

She trotted into the bathroom.

Just then, Blaze walked in. Flash turned to him.

“Young colt, did you put whipped cream on your mom’s hoof?” He asked.

There was a little bit of silence. “Maybe...”

….......................................

All five of Rainbow’s friends waited at the train station for the four to arrive.

“I bet Rainbow and Flash’s performance will be just marvelous!” Rarity raved.

“Yeah, it’ll be great watching Rainbow and her hubbie fly around in front of everypony!” Pinkie added.

“Dang, you’re just crazy ‘bout Rainbow’s marriage, aren’t ya?” Applejack asked.

“Yeah, pretty much.” Pinkie answered.

Just then, Rainbow, Flash, and their kids showed up at the station. Rainbow and Flash showed up in their Wonderbolts uniforms. And wow, did Rainbow look stunning in hers.

“Rarity! Fluttershy!” Starlight exclaimed, running to their side to converse. The three of them went to the spa on regular occasions, and were the best of friends.

“Well then, let’s go!” Twilight exclaimed.

The group boarded the train.

….......................................
-Canterlot, 10 minutes to show-
….......................................

Rainbow Dash walked out from the prep room to scan the audience. And it was a big audience.

She looked down toward the front, and saw her five friends, along with her children, talking about things she couldn’t hear.

She noticed she was shivering, so she took a deep breath to calm herself down.

“What’s wrong?” She heard a voice say. She turned around to see Flash standing behind her.

“Oh, hey Flash. I didn’t hear you approach.” She said.

“Are you nervous?” He asked.

Rainbow took another deep breath. “Yeah, I guess I am. My Sonic Rainboom is the grand finale of the show, and I’m afraid I might mess up.”

Flash smiled. “I’ve seen you do the Rainboom twice now. How could you screw this up?”

“Well...I-”

“Don’t answer. I know you’ll be amazing out there. You’ll go out there and knock ‘em dead, I just know it!” Flash reassured.

Rainbow smiled, then walked forward and hugged Flash. Just then, they heard an announcement.

“Sit down and get comfortable, the show will be starting in three minutes!” They heard a young colt announce over the loudspeakers.

“Go out there and knock them off their hooves!” Flash finished, then walked back to the prep room to converse with Soarin.

Rainbow sighed. “He’s right! They’ll all be gasping for breath when I’m done!”

….......................................

“Mares and gentlecolts, we here at this festival thank you very much for attending this event! As of now, we’ll be announcing the winning lottery number for the new laptop! And the winning number is...462435!”

The friends looked at their cards, yet none of them had won.

“The winner appears to be Berry Punch! Come on down to recieve your prize! And now...without further ado...I give you, the Wonderbolts!”

Right as he said this, the Wonderbolts flew out toward the audience, turning right before the bleachers. Wind rushed by the friends faces as the flyers just missed them.

“Whoa, cool!” Blaze yelled. He buzzed his wings in excitement.

The friends watched in astonishment as the group of flyers did all sorts of aligned tricks that fooled the mind and seemed to bend gravity.

“Hey, there’s dad!” Starlight exclaimed. The friends followed her hoof to see Thunder Flash in the center of the group, leading the pack.

The friends looked a little more. “Wait, where’s Rainbow Dash?” Fluttershy asked in bewilderment.

Right then, the flyers stopped doing tricks, and flew to both sides of the arena.

“What’s going on?” Twilight asked.

Her question was answered when Rainbow Dash exploded from the center, and displayed herself to the audience.

Loud cheers erupted from the friends, as well as the audience at the sight of the rainbow mare.

After the cheering session, Rainbow proceeded to perform solo tricks, while everyone watched in awe.

One of these tricks was the Buccaneer Blaze, which appeared to explode in a blinding flash of white light. The crowd went wild.

After they slowed down, Rainbow began to climb. She flew ever higher and higher, until she was lost from the naked eye.

After a couple seconds, she was visible again, plummeting toward the ground at ever surprising speed. A steady cone formed around her body, and eventually exploded in a rainbow burst of acceleration. The rainbow spread out all around, nearly toppling the stunned audience.

The Sonic Rainboom.

The amount of cheers from the audience was immeasurable as Rainbow concluded the show.

…....................................

It was admirable the way Rainbow Dash accomplished everything, from the Sonic Rainboom to holding a loving family together.

All of Rainbow’s dreams had come true. However, there would be challenges along the way. Conflicts, accusations, departures, etc.

But with all the good that comes out of it, it will be the biggest adventure she had ever set out on. An adventure that would change her as a mare, and as a friend.

She still had a lot of life ahead of her, a life which she would live happily with her friends, her children, and her husband.

She still had so much ahead of her, and it had only just begun.

THE END

Author Notes:

Thank you for reading A Wish in Reality! Let me just say that this is NOT my last story. I'll be writing plenty of other stories in the future! Let me just warn you though, Rainbow Dash is my favorite pony, and the wide majority of my stories will be centered around her specifically. I'm already story-boarding my next story, which will be called Huge Mistake. Stay tuned, because a writer's work is never done! -Michael
