A day before Twilight, Starlight and Spike head back home to Ponyville. Spike wanted to stay for one more day just to get to know Thorax a bit more and make the residents of the Crystal Empire familiar with him as well, but in the shadows Shining Armor has noticed Sunburst making goo goo eyes at Twilight and decided to approach him and give him advice on how he can tell her how he feels.
"Hey there."
"Ahh! Shining you um you startled me. What um what are you doing here?"
"I should be asking you the same thing. You know I can tell you like Twilight."
"What! N...no no I don't. I just um I'm looking at Starlight yeah."
"So you have a crush on Starlight?"
"No! Ugh!"
"Sunburst relax. I know you have a crush on Twilight. It's so obvious. Come with me I wanna take to you about how you can improve your skills and build up your confidence to tell her your feelings."
Shining takes Sunburst to his room in the castle while Starlight sees them and starts to follow and wonder where they're going. Closing the door to Shining and Cadence's room only slightly giving Starlight an advantage to eavesdrop on their conversation. She discovers a shocking discovery.
"So Sunburst, tell what you like about Twilight." Shining asks as he sits on the edge of his bed
"Well, Twilight is just so fun to hang around with. I never thought I had anything in common with her or any pony else, not even Starlight. And on top of it, she's so beautiful, her eyes sparkle like the sun every time I see them. Her voice it, it's like music to my ears and her voice melts my heart. To be honest, I'm kind of jealous of Starlight. She gets to live with her every day. Hear her voice and see her everyday. I just wish that me. I just don't know what to do with myself every time I'm around her. I've never had a crush on any pony before. I want to tell her how I feel I really do. I just don't know how."
"Interesting. I'll tell you what to do. All you gotta do is plan something special. Like a picnic."
"How will that help?"
"Let me finish. You plan a special picnic before sunset and just before the sun sets you look into her eyes and tell her how you feel."
"You really think that will work?"
"Oh it will. I did the same to Cadence well not really. We actually got together senior year of high school, but this plan will work, but if your really really want to tell her sooner you can always go up to her right now and just tell her."
"No no the picnic is perfect."
"Great and I the perfect spot where you can have the picnic. There's a place at the edge of town where you can watch the sunset go behind the mountains in the distance."
"Thanks Shining. Should I go get the picnic set up and ready now."
"If you want to tell her I suggest you set it up now or better yet I can set it up for you and you go ask Twilight if she can join you for a picnic at the edge of the Crystal Empire."
"You would really do that for me."
"Of course I would. Anything for Flurry Hearts crystaller. No go on. Think about how your gonna ask her."
"Oh my Celestia! I didn't think about that. What if I screw up when I ask her and she doesn't want to be friends with me anymore!"
"Sunburst Sunburst Sunburst, your over thinking this. Ok ok, heres what you gotta say. You walk up to her and say, Hey Twilight. I was wondering if you could join me for a picnic at the edge of the Crystal Empire."
"You got it? It's simple just like that."
"Ok, I think I got this."
"You don't think. You got this! Say it with me."
Both: "I got this!"
"Thanks Shining I'm gonna go practice while you set up the picnic."
Sunburst and Shining walk out the room not noticing that Starlight was right around the corner. Her heart was about to break into a million from the news she just heard. She knew that she had to tell Sunburst how she felt, but she can't decide how she wants to tell him or where. She just knew she had to tell him before his picnic with Twilight. Following Sunburst into the center of the castle where Flurry Heart is at. Starlight approaches him thinking about what she's gonna say.
"Hey Sunburst."
"Oh hey Starlight. What's up?"
"I, uh I just want to say something to you I wanted to say before, but was too shy and afraid of what you will think and say. I wanted to say that I...I really like you alot."
"What. Starlight. I had no idea. But I um, I...
"You like Twilight. I heard."
"Huh, you we're eavesdropping on mine and Shining Armors conversation?"
"I didn't mean to I just...wanted to know what you guys were gonna talk about. That sounded less bad in my head."
"I can't believe you Starlight. I thought you would know better. You live with the Princess of Friendship. Has she taught you nothing about friendship? I mean I'm pretty sure your not suppose to spy on your friends conversations."
"Sunburst I'm sorry. I...
"I need to be alone right now and get ready for this date. Just leave me alone right now."
Starlight walks away disappointed in herself for spying on her best friend. She started thinking out loud to herself about her lessons that she had with Twilight. Shining Armor passes by Starlight on the way to talk to Sunburst.
"Hey Sunburst, the picnic is finished. I even drew you this map so you know where to go. Now are you ready? It's about to be sunset. You better get a move on."
"Ok, I'm ready. Thanks Shining."
Sunburst makes his way over to the west wing of the castle where Twilight is staying. (knock knock) "Twilight. May I come in please?"
Twilight opens the door. "Oh hey Sunburst come on in."
"I wanted to ask you, do you want to come and have a picnic with me?"
"It's been ages since I've been on a picnic. Where is it?"
"It just on the edge of the Crystal Empire. So what do ya say?"
"Sure. I'll go. When is it?"
"It's um right now hehe."
"Oh ok. Well let's go shall we."
Sunburst takes Twilight to the picnic just on the edge of the Crystal Empire following the map the Shining Armor gave him.
"Oh we're here."
"Wow. You out done yourself haven't you?"
"Heh, yeah."
They both sit down and start to enjoy the cookies the Shining Armor has left for them. Staring into her eyes, Sunburst doesn't even want to look at the sunset. All he could ever look at is right in front of him.
"These cookies are great. And look at that sunset. It's so beautiful."
"Not as beautiful as you." Sunburst says under his breath
"What was that?"
"Nothing, but it really is a beautiful sunset. Twilight theres something I want to say to you. Something I've been feeling for a while."
"What is it?" She turns to face Sunburst as he gets ready to say his confession
"I really like you. I liked you when i first laid my eyes on you. Your just so beautiful, your eyes shine like diamonds. I have more in common with you than any pony even Starlight. I know you don't feel the same way. I just had to tell you how i was feeling. I had to get this off my chest. I'm sorry. Let's um lets enjoy this sunset."
Twilight turns back towards the sunset moving her hoof closer towards his up until they're actually holding their hooves together. Sunburst blushes and looks down at their hooves. Twilight looks back at him holding his chin up with her other hoof. She gets closer puckering her lips until they meet up with his lips. Kissing in front of the sunset, Sunburst blushes, but closing his eyes while enjoying the kiss. This is truly the best day of their lives.
