Chapter 2: Escape from Friendship, Pt. 1

Even though I consider myself I recovered quite enough to go on this epic quest of discovering my past, Fluttershy just won’t let me get out from the bed. I’m really eager to go out and start walking around; getting to know the village I’m at… so much on my mind! Or maybe she’s right, I might end up crashing myself again if I happen to go now…

Or maybe I need to know why did they help me on the first place, as a milestone in my quest?

“Oh, Sky, please wait here while I get you some soup from downstairs,” Fluttershy said. This is a chance to escape, I thought, but I’m still uncertain whether I should run or stay, even after Fluttershy went downstairs. Staying here and unable to discover my past… I… I just can’t! I’ll try to stand up just as what I did earlier and run away from here.

I walked to the open window and see a pile of hay not far from it – I could use it to ensure a safe landing. Even so, I am slightly afraid that I don’t have much energy to do a jump but… I braced myself and give it all I have. I managed the jump and escape from Fluttershy. Since she’s a pegasus, I think she’ll have no problem finding this distinguishing colt if I don’t hide properly. It only takes 5 seconds after I hid myself in the bushes until I see Fluttershy flies from the window, worriedly searching for this “badly injured” colt.

As I walked to reach the village center, away from Fluttershy’s direction, I begin to wonder why I refused to stay. I know my desire to discover my past is tremendously high – apparently it beats my growling stomach – but… I refused their caring? This mental conflict… I wish I had thought about escaping, many times before had actually done it. Since I already took the escape as my decision, there’s no turning back – I won’t regret because I own my life, my thoughts… my stupid, developing principle? I continue to walk, as the sun guides my path.

I finally arrived at a bridge. Even though I’m somewhat near to the village hall, it’s not like I have a destination – I need to know this village first, no? There are some ponies wandering around the village so I can’t really explore freely if I want to keep on a low profile. I stepped forward and start sneaking around the town using the back “alleys”. It would be like a walk in the park if there aren’t any other obstacles, but….

I was going to the behind of the closest building by the time I spot the five other fillies – or I should call them mares since they can look after themselves, as well as Fluttershy – I met back then at Fluttershy’s house. It seems that they are going to visit me to apologize about earlier and to welcome me in this village, perhaps? Whatever it is, I’m sure I’m about to ruin their plan with this exploration I’m doing. I dashed forward to avoid being noticed by them.

I might be able to take a breath after the mares crossed the bridge without noticing me behind the building. I randomly thought, it’s really great to have friends, no? Seeing that they happily spend their time together, maybe sharing their sorrow and joy, as well as helping each other hoof in hoof… it's surely a relationship that everypony would dream of. Is this what they call “Friendship”?

Suddenly I smelt something coming from them. Something that could satisfy me… but I’m not sure. I think I eat physical foods like hays and flowers to satisfy hunger but… this weird feeling… I just don’t understand! As they go farther from the bridge, the smell also went away, leaving my stomach growling. Since tailing them is a bad idea, I should really continue my trip, with awareness that I couldn’t even show up to anypony. I hope I can hold my hunger in the meantime.

As I wander aimlessly, I arrived at a fountain area. It seems like nopony is around. Still, I need to stay alert. I looked around – typical fountain sculpture, benches, grasses… it's surely weird that I can’t find anypony here. Maybe they are busy or something? I walk to the fountain and try to look at my reflection – I haven’t even seen my own appearance ever since I got up this morning. I can’t see it clearly with these wild ripples, I should have checked mine back then at the bridge but… oh well; appearance is not important, or what my brain says….

Suddenly I see a pair of mares, which are currently chatting while walking to the fountain. I was slightly surprised that I run to a random bush behind a bench without thinking – thankfully I wasn’t noticed by them. Unfortunately for me, they sit on the bench in front of the bush I’m currently hiding at. Willingly or not, I have to hear their chatter while waiting for the right moment to get out and flee.

Weird enough, I smell some kind of scent… isn’t this scent the same with the one emanating from those five mares just then? My heart beats faster and my instinct says that I should “feed” on it… but I just don’t know how and… I don’t see any visualization of it? As I struggle against that wild instinct of mine, I was rather driven psychotic because this smell is much stronger – probably because I’m too near to them. I really wish I had chosen a different place to hide.

I can’t express how grateful I am after that pair of mares get up and walk away from the bench. I was rather screwed that I'm afraid I might had not been able to control myself if it had lasted longer. Regardless, I’m rather curious why I sometimes smell weird yet delighting things. Something tells me that I should “feed” on it, but how? I don’t even see the appearance of it or know what it is.

Ever since that unwanted but delighting smell that comes from some ponies in this village, I would rather put an end to this exploration. I would run amok if I continue to encounter that smell from everypony anyway, which is not good. One second thought, I realized that I don’t have a place to stay, leaving two options to me: get out from this village or find certain “residence” for a while in this village. No, I won’t return to those mares since I already troubled them with this exploration. It’s not like I would be accepted, anyway.

“Sky! Stop right there!” Suddenly I heard a kind of familiar voice from my behind… Fluttershy? No, not her, her voice is not that loud. As I slowly turned my back, I see Fluttershy and her friends. Oh, great, so I’m royally screwed or what? “Ya ain’t getting away from us, Sky,” as one of them swings a lasso. An inch closer and she would have put an end in my exploration. Okay, time to run!

I finally do some running across the village with six mares hot on my tail. Even though they can’t catch me at the moment, but that doesn’t mean I could run forever, right? I could see they’re catching up as I’m losing my speed. I’m trying to give it all I have… but by the time I returned my sight to the front, I can’t clearly see the street… my vision is fading… their shouting is blurring…. I have to keep running….

*thud*

I was standing on a big town, looking around. I could see typical destruction marks at some of the buildings… was I in a riot? But I was suddenly thrown by a force that comes from a building far away – I think it was rather obscured by some other building. Wait, was this reality?

Whatever it was, I realized that my escape is over and I consider it as a failure.
