//------------------------------// // Opening her Third Eye // Story: Fluttershy Listens to Tool // by RaygenBrady //------------------------------// I was walking to Twilights after feeding my little animal friends their lunch because she wanted to show me some kind of music and I didn't want to be rude so I agreed to meet with her. I was being slow due to the hot weather lately and I wanted to save my energy. After what felt like an hour, I finally make it to the tree library and entered through the front door. I was greeted with Spike who was organizing books by himself while I heard some music upstairs in Twilight's room. I clear my throat to get the drake's attention and that it does, he snaps his eyes to me before hopping down from the shelves and onto the floor. He then asks "Hey Fluttershy, looking for Twilight?" I slowly nod which made him continue "Well she's in her room. Geez, ever since she got that music from the Princess, she's been listening to it nonstop" I don't pay mind to his last comment as I ascend the stairs to her room before knocking on the door twice, the music's volume seemed to turn down as some shuffling was heard behind the door before it was open to reveal the lavender mare. "Hey Fluttershy, just in time!" Twilight says as she steps aside, allowing me into her room. I've only seen her room a few times but it was way different from back then, hypnotic posters lined the wall with the name 'Tool' appearing on all of them, a strange grey rectangle device sat on the floor which seemed to be the source of the music. I politely ask "What was it that you wanted to show me, Twilight?" Twilight then walked over to the grey device before turning a knob on it, causing the volume to gradually raise. The music was of a nice and slow guitar riff that looped after 4 beats, "I wanted to show you this music and by the sun is it amazing" Twilight said as she sat on her bed before continuing "Princess Celestia wanted me to listen to this music to gain a 'higher spiritual level' and at first I thought it was another one of her pranks but this music is... Unexplainable, the singer can have such an angelical voice or a really rough one and the instruments are soothing or... Hardcore as Rainbow would say. What I'm saying is that this music gives a satisfying euphoria field that makes me feel happy and relaxed, it's a great stress reliever so to say" I blink twice at her explanation before shaking my head slightly, I smiled as I say "Well that's great Twilight, I think I should get going though, Angel will get grumpy if I don't feed hi-" "Wait" Twilight shouted before covering her mouth, she composed herself and spoke "I wanted you to listen to this tonight, here" she pulls another one of those devices out of her closet in her magic and hands it to me, I hold it in my wings which were a little hard at first until I got used to the weight. She then handed me a flat square thing, I looked at the weird and hypnotic cover to see '10000 days' printed on the front. Twilight looked at me for a few seconds before realizing that I don't know how to use this thing so she says "I'll show you how to use the boom box, you open the CD case" she takes the 'boombox' and the 'CD case' from me before opening it to show a circular disk on the inside, Twilight takes the disk out and presses a button with a triangle on the 'boombox' causing a tray to pop out causing me to jump. Twilight puts the disk on the trey before pressing the button again causing the tray to slowly slide back in, she then presses a button with an arrow aiming to the right and after a few seconds music began to play but Twilight stops it as soon as the song starts before she spoke "Don't want to spoil it." She presses the triangle button again and the tray pops out once more before Twilight takes the disk and places it into the 'CD case' before closing it, she gives them back to me as I ask "Is there anything else you wanted to show me?" "Umm... No, that's pretty much it." Twilight replies so I nod and began to walk downstairs with a goodbye. I said goodbye to Spike before heading out the door, I walked all the way back to my cottage all the while getting stares from the items in my possession. After a few minutes of trotting, I made it to the cottage. I push open the door with one of my back hooves as I walk back into the house. I am immediately met with an impatient white bunny who was stomping his right foot at a fast pace, "I know Angel and I will get you some food, just let me put these in my room" I say as I begin to walk toward the stairs. But I want it NOW! I sigh at Angel's backtalk before saying "You can wait a few more seconds." He seemed to calm down a bit with a roll of his eyes and a cross of his arms. I walk upstairs before reaching my bed, I lightly put down the boombox and set down the CD case on my nightstand before heading back downstairs to feed the animals and myself. 2 hours later because showing animals getting fed through text is boring I slowly trotted upstairs, exhausted from the work before jumping with a little boost of my wings onto my bed. I look to the side to see the boombox sitting on the ground. My curiosity peaked as I slowly pushed myself to the side of the bed before throwing my hind legs over the edge, I look to the CD case before picking it up in my hooves and opening it as Twilight taught me. I press the triangle button and out pops the tray causing me to jump slightly again but I quickly compose myself and put the disk onto the tray before closing it. I wait a few seconds before the first song started to play It started off with slow guitar notes with occasional cymbal tap here and there before the song picked up the pace as drums were added into the mix. The lyrics were dark even if I didn't know what a 'TV' was, the song may have been very grim but the tune was catchy and rhythmic and the singer was a very good one. The drums were very complex as the bass player sounded like he was playing it like a guitar The singer was pretty good but the message was unclear which is intriguing, I could listen to this all day. I could tell time signatures from music class from school but the time signatures were nothing I never heard of before, they were very odd. These words could never be so true to me, all those bullies from school used their power to gain friends and fame and make others look bad, meanwhile, all the teachers just moved on as nothing happened. 'Just ignore them' they say when it's just not enough. I was startled by the singer screaming out but I quickly bring my attention back to the music to hear so much emotion put into the final words, I frown as the song ends but I smile as another song starts playing, It started off with an aggressive guitar riff which was then followed by drums. I could somewhat get the message behind this song. The instruments and vocals were nothing like I ever heard before, they were so well timed and play so smoothly or rough when they needed to. I felt a little sad as it seemed to represent someone who lost a loved one he was very close to and couldn't live without. I jump at the sound of a weird electronic noise coming through the speakers but I got myself together as I listened to the electronic singing. The singer seemed really emotional at this part as he yelled these words, he seemed to be losing hope because he lost someone that gave it. I could feel the anger pour through the device before he shouted ended and the song concluded, I look at the CD case to see a tracklist and the band member's names, So the singer's name is Maynard... James Keenan? Pretty weird name. I hear a quiet guitar come through the speakers with a sad tone, I look at the tracklist and find the song name 'Wings for Marie pt.2'. I hear Maynard's voice spill through the speakers with a sombre tone He was definitely talking about someone he knew but it was still unclear but from the sound of the singer's voice, something happened to them. I couldn't think about because he began to sing in his perfect voice. So much grief came from his words as he sang them out. He felt bad like he thought he could have done better. After a few more lyrics were sung by Maynard, the message was now very clear, the pony he's talking about had passed away. And it crushed him, he wished for her to come back but he knows it's impossible. The guitar and drums sounded so... Awesome together, The guitarist went on a little solo with swings to each note while the drummer went on its own subtle solo. It tugged at my heartstrings as the final words rang throughout my room. I'm glad I took up Twilight's offer to listen to these, I felt that the songs connected to me on some level. I look at my alarm clock to that the clock read 11:23, I gasp at how long I realized I've been up for. I look at the boombox and the CD case. It's weird how this music can just relieve your stress in just three songs, I felt relaxed, at peace. I finally make the decision to lie down and sleep but as I laid down, I felt a bit of pressure against my forehead before the darkness around me seemed to brighten, making every little outline in the darkness actual detailed objects. I feel a euphoric chill down my spine as the colors began to look more vibrant, the only downside to this wonderful feeling was a mild headache I felt but I pay no mind and close my eyes as my third one opens.
