//------------------------------// // Making Friends // Story: Aggressively Small // by ShowShine //------------------------------// Spike stood at the table, wrapping a present for Moondancers party. “And... done!” He said as he tied a perfect bow on the top. He walked towards the door only for it to burst open, hitting him in the face. Twilight stood at the doorway and looked down at Spike. “I’m so sorry, I didn’t see you there!” She apologized. Spike stood up with a groan and turned around to see his tail impailed the gift he just wrapped. “It’s fine.” Spike said as he pulled the present off of his tail. “Why are you in such a rush? The party doesn’t start for another hour.” Twilight walked past him, shaking her head. “We’re not going to the party.” Twilight stated. Spike groaned loudly. “You can’t avoid your friends forever Twilight.” Spike said in an annoyed tone. Twilight glared at him. “I am not avoiding my friends, I’m making sure the Princess knows about a potential threat.” Twilight said sternly. Spikes ears perked up at ‘potential threat’. “Spike, take a letter.” Twilight said as handed him a scroll and a quill. My dearest teacher,my continuing studies of pony magic have led me to discover a precipice of disaster! For you see, the Mythical Mare on the moon is in fact Nightmare Moon, and she is about to return to Equestria, and bring onto her eternal night! Something must be done to make sure this terrible prophecy does not come true. I await your quick response. Your faithful student, Twilight Sparkle. “And done!” Spike said as he sent the letter away. Spike looked at Twilight anxiously. “So how big is this threat?” He asked while twiddling his thumbs. “According to the prophecy, Nightmare Moon will bring on eternal night. She’ll rip families apart and enslave every creature in sight.” Twilight stated. She looked over to Spike who had a scared expression on his face. “That parts just a myth, there’s nothing to worry about.” Twilight said nuzzled into Spike. As he hugged her back he let out a loud burp, making a letter appear. Twilight eagerly levitated the letter and opened it. My dearest, most faithful student Twilight. You know that I value your diligence and that I trust you completelty, but you simply must stop reading those dusty old books! Twilight let out a soft gasp at the statement. My dear Twilight, there is more to a young pony’s life than studying, so I’m sending you to supervise the preparations for the Summer Sun Celebration in this years location: Ponyville. And I have an even more task for you to complete: make some friends! Twilight looked at the back of the letter, searching for any further instructions. “Are you kidding me! This isn’t the time to be making friends, this is the time to be taking action!” Spike shouted angrily. Twilight shook her head and sighed. “Princess Celestia knows best. Pack your things Spike, we’re going to Ponyville.” Twilight and Spike sat on a chariot as it flew through the sky. Owlicious sat next to Spike as he sat grumpily with his arms crossed. “This can be a major threat to Equestria, friends aren’t important right now!” Spike said angrily. Twilight let out a frustrated sigh. “Spike you’ve been going on about this for twenty minutes. The Princess is right, I’ve been spending to much time reading and not with my friends.” Spike let out a soft grunt of annoyance, but didn’t say anything. The chariot soon landed on the ground. Twilight and Spike hopped out with Owlicious flying close behind. “Thank you.” Twilight said to the guards. They both smiled in response and flew away. As they walked through the town, they saw a pink pony bouncing in there direction. “See this is a perfect time to make some friends.” Twilight said. Spike rolled his eyes. She approached the pink mare with a smile on her face. “Hi my name is-“ Before Twilight could finished her sentence, the pink mare let out a loud, dramatic gasp and ran away. “What a great way to make friends.” Spike said sarcastically. Twilight glared at him and pulled out her checklist. “First stop, Sweet Apple Acres.” Twilight said. They both walked through the town, listening to the ponies chatter. The town seemed so peaceful. After a few minutes of walking Twilight stopped. “Spike I think we’re lost, I’m going to ask for directions.” Twilight said as she gained the attention of a nearby pony. The sweet smell of cookies caught Spikes attention. He turned around to see a bakery called ‘Sugarcube Corner’. His stomach growled loudly. “Hey Twi, do you think we can grab som-“ Spike trailed off as he noticed Twilight was nowhere in sight. He felt his heart pick up pace. “Twilight couldn’t have gotten that far.” He muttered to himself. Spike wandered around town looking for Twilight. With every step he took he felt him self panic more. “Sweet Oranges? No that’s not it.” Spike mumbled as he tried to remember the name of where Twilight went. His mind was foggy and he couldn’t concentrate. His heart started to pick up pace as he looked for Twilight. “Where is she? Where is she?” He felt himself losing his breath as he slowed down. Spike looked around to see that he had wandered to the outskirts of town. Trees towered over him. Spikes legs started to wobble and he leaned against the tree. Tears came to his eyes and his breath quickened. He slid down while hiding his face in his hands. “I’ll never see Twilight again and it’s all my fault.” Spike said as tears spilled down his face. He heard birds singing a tune of an opening show. It reminded him of the time Twilight took him to the circus. He remembered seeing ponies on stilts, and the jugglers. He remembered Shining Armor screaming in fear at the sight of the clowns. Spike chuckled at the memory. He felt himself calm down as he listened to the cheery tune. His breathing slowed down as he felt a sense of calmness wash over him. Spike stood up and looked around. Trees towered over him and colorful flowers sprouting out of the ground. He started to walk around, observing more of his surrondings. The singing birds got louder as he walked around. Spike stopped walking when he saw a yellow pegagus next to a group of singing birds. She seemed to be directing them. Spike cleared his throat. “Um, hello?” Spike said awkwardly causing the yellow pegasus to jump and her birds to fly away. The yellow mare turned around and gasped when she saw Spike. “Oh my, a baby dragon!” She said happily. She rushed over to Spike, making him flinch. The pegasus picked him up and hugged him tightly. Spike tried to push away from her. “PUT ME DOWN!” He shouted angrily. The mare quickly put him down.” “I’m so sorry, I’ve just never seen a baby dragon before.” She apologized. Spike took a few steps back. The mare noticed that he was uncomfortable. “My name is Fluttershy, what’s your name?” Fluttershy asked sweetly. “Spike and like the song you were teaching then birds.” Spike said in an attempt to change the conversation. Fluttershy smiled widely at the compliment. “That’s so great to hear! They’re preforming for the Summer Sun Celebration.” She said happily. ”So she’s the one in charge of the music.” Spike thought to himself. “That means Twilight is going to come here to check on the progress later.” Spike turned around and looked at the field he had just come from. He knew that if went to go look for Twilight, he would get lost again and start to panic more. “Do you mind if I stay here for a while?” Spike asked. Fluttershy smiled and nodded her head. “I don’t mind at all.” Fluttershy said as she turned to her birds. Spike laid under a nearby tree as the birds sung loudly. His eyes slowly closed as he drifted into a dreamless sleep. Spike awoke to the feeling of something repeatedly tapping his face. He swatted the feeling away, trying to go back to sleep. When the tapping continued, he slowly opened his eyes. Owlowiscious stared at him. Spike slowly sat up and rubbed his eyes, looking around to see where he was. The moon was high in the sky. He suddenly remembered had fell asleep under a tree waiting for Twilight. He looked up to see a pegagus with a rainbow mane talking to Fluttershy. Next to the pegagus he saw Twilight standing there anxiously. Spike quickly stood up and rushed over to Twilight. “Twilight!” Spike shouted happily. She turned around before breaking out into a wide grin. “Spike!” Twilight shouted as he hugged her tightly. “Thank Celestia I found you.” She said as she hugged him tighter. “I told you that I would find him.” The blue pegasus said cockily. Twilight glared at her. “You weren’t even helping me, you just followed me around and talked about how awesome you are.” She said in an annoyed tone. The pegasus scoffed. “Well I least I helped you get here, you were freaking out when I found you.” The pegasus responded. “I guess I was a little stressed, I was supposed to get here hours ago.” Twilight said sheepishly. She let out a yawn. “I’m pretty tired, let’s go home so we can get some rest before the celebration.” Twilight said as she put Spike on her back. She looked around. “Rainbow Dash, do you know where the Golden Oaks library is?” Twilight asked to the rainbow pony. “Of course I can, I know this place like the back of my hoof.” Rainbow Dash said cockily. She quickly flew off, making Twilight follow behind. They walked silently down the dark road until they saw the library in sight. It was a big tree which Spike felt was a little unsafe. “Thank you for helping us.” Twilight said greatfully. “No problem, I am good at helping ponies out.” Rainbow said. As Twilight and Spike entered the house, they saw that it was pitch black. “Where’s the light switch...” Twilight muttered to herself. Spike felt that something was wrong. It felt as if hundreds of eyes were watching them. Suddenly the lights flicked on. ”SURPRISE!” Twilight jumped up in shock and Spike quickly stood in front of her, making sure nothing hurt her. A large group of ponies stood inside the house with large grins on there faces. The same pink pony from earlier quickly ran up to them. “Hi I’m Pinkie Pie and I threw this party just for you! I set this up hours ago but I didn’t think you were going to show up! So were you surprised?!” Pinkie pie jumbled. Spike stayed in front of Twilight, not moving an inch. He glared at Pinkie. Pinkie pie looked at Spike and broke out in a grin. “You’re so adorable!” She squealed loudly. Spike growled in response. Twilight moved him behind her so he didn’t do anything crazy. “Thank you for this party but I was kinda wanted silence.” Twilight said. Pinkie pie laughed. “But what kind of party is quiet, that’s just boring.” She said, clear long not understanding what Twilight meant. Twilight sighed and made her way to her room. Spike followed closely. They squeezed their way through chatting ponies. Twilight tripped and fell to the ground. Before Spike got to her an orange pony helped her up. “Ya’ll got to be more careful there.” She said in a southern accent. “Thanks Applejack.” Twilight said as she rubbed her head. A white unicorn with a purple mane walked up to her. “Are you okay darling, that was quite a nasty fall.” She asked concernly. Before Twilight could answer Spike grabbed Twilight by the hoof. “She’s fine bye.” He said as he led her upstairs. Once they got upstairs Spike sat her down on the bed. Twilight started to giggle a little bit. “Jealous much?” She said between giggles. Spikes face stayed stern. “I’m making sure nopony hurts you. And get some rest, you don’t want to be tired for the celebration.” He said in a bossy tone. Twilight let out a yawn. “You’re right Spike, night.” She said as she dozed off. “Night Twily.” Ponies gathered into town hall as they waited for the Princess to enter. Excited chatter filled the room. “This is going to be so awesome!” Rainbow Dash said excitedly. Spike looked at Twilight who sat there with a small smile on her face. Spike had terrible feeling that something was wrong. Their were barely and guards in sight. That left a chance of a pony attacking the Princess. He got snapped out of his trance when he heard the birds singing. “And now introducing...Princess Celestia!” The mayor said. The curtains opened up to reveal nothing. Ponies gasped in shock and started to let out whispers. Spikes heart pounded in his chest loudly. Loud laughter echoed acros the room making everyone fall silent. A tall dark figure appeared on the balcony. It was Nightmare Moon.
