Bonding

Twilight rummaged through the bag, hoping to find something useful. “Ah ha!” Twilight exclaimed as she pulled out a book.

“After adopting a foal!” Twilght said read out excitedly. “The best parenting book in Canterlot.”

Twilight opened the book to the first chapter. She quickly skimmed through the chapter and closed the book. First step: make sure the foal feels safe in the environment.

Twilight crouched down to Spikes height. “You’re safe here and no one here will hurt you.” She said with a blank expression on her face. Twilight popped back up and opened the book to the second chapter.

“Twily sweetheart, I don’t think that was very comforting.” Velvet said while gesturing to Spike. Spike had backed up to the wall to keep distance from everybody and clutched onto Starry.

“Hm? I was sure that would work.” Twilight flipped back to the first chapter to see what she did wrong. As she reread the chapter, thunder crackled making everyone flinch.

Shining Armor peeked outside the window to see dark clouds littering the sky. “ I forgot there was supposed to be a storm today.” He said as he walked away from the window.

Lightning flashed through the sky and thunder boomed. Spike let out a small squeak and cover his ears. Tears threatened to spill from his eyes. He let out a small sniffle making everyone look at him.

Twilight walked over to Spike. “Are you okay?” She asked in a concerned tone. Thunder boomed making Spike scream loudly. He let out a loud sob, shaking in fear.

“Aw you’re afraid of thunder.” Twilight said sympathetically. Twilight picked Spike up and held him close to her chest.

“It’s okay, the thunder won’t hurt you.” Twilight said while stroking Spikes head. He started to close his eyes.

“See? Now you’re getting the hang of it.” Velvet said encouragingly. Soon his crying turned into soft hiccups and sniffles. He buried his face in her fluffy chest.

“He’s starting to like you.” Night Light commented. Twilight grinned at her achievement.

“I might as well catch up on some reading as the storm continues.” Twilight said while levitating a book from her saddle bag. She opened the book and read it silently to herself.

Spike tugged on the book in an attempt to see the words. Twilight let out a small smile and lowered the book. They both read together, completely forgetting about the storm.

“Twilight, dinners ready!” Velvet called from the kitchen. Twilight looked up from her book to see that the storm had stopped and the moon was shining. She looked at Spike who was still reading.

Twilight placed him on the floor and stood up, stretching her legs in the process. “Come one Spike, it’s time for dinner.” Twilight said as she made her way to the kitchen. Spike followed close behind.

Twilight sat next to her brother, who was staring at Spike to make sure he didn’t attack his sister again. Spike struggled to get onto the chair due to his tiny legs. Twilight giggled and levitated him on. He sunk down into the chair, his head barely above the table.

Velvet handed everyone their plates. Shinings stomach growled loudly. “Wow Mom this smells great!” He said while licking his lips. Night Light nodded in agreement. Everyone started to eat their delicious meal.

Twilight smiled and looked over to Spike, who was staring at his small bowl. “Eat up Spike, it’s really good.” She reassured.

Spike leaned over to the bowl and sniffed the food. His ears perked up a wonderful smell. He picked up a spoonful of food and put it in his mouth. His eyes widened at the wonderful taste. He quickly scarfed the food down. Everyone stared at him in shock as he finished his food before anyone could start.

“This little guy has an appetite.” Night Light said. They all let out a chuckle when they saw Spike’s mouth covered in food. Twilight levitated a napkin to clean his face. Spike flinched back before calming down slightly. Twilight smiled at his trust in her.

By the time dinner was over, everyone was stuffed. “You really outdone yourself sweetheart.” Night Light complimented. Velvet blushed at the compliment.

“Oh sweetheart, it was nothing.” Velvet said as she put the dishes in the sink. Shining Armor quickly stood up from the table.

“Don’t worry Mom, I got it.” Shining said as he walked over to the sink. Velvet smiled at her son.

“It looks like someone is tired.” Night Light pointed out. Twilight looked over to Spike, who was dozing off at the table. Twilight levitated Spike onto her back.

“I’ll put him to bed.” Twilight said as she walked towards out of the kitchen. As she made her way to her room, Spike let out a small mumble.

”Starry...” He mumbled softly. Twilight looked around to see the small stuffed bat under a table. She levitated over to Spike, who cuddled into the doll. She smiled lightly and walked to down the hallway.

When Twilight entered her room, she put the small dragon on her bed. He cuddled into the fluffy blanket. Twilight smiled lightly at this display. She walked over to her desk in the corner of her room.

“I need to do my homework before school starts again.” She muttered as she took out her homework. Twilight stared intently at her work, trying to finish as quickly as she could.

She was half way through her homework already and it’s only been ten minutes.”One hundred divided by sixteen makes-“ Twilights thoughts were cut off by sobbing. She turned around to see Spike crying and hyperventilating heavily. Twilight rushed over to him as worry took over her.

When Twilight reached Spike, she noticed how red his face had gotten. Beads of sweat rolled down his face. He didn’t even acknowledge Twilights presence next to him.

”What do I do, what do I do!?” Twilight internally panicked. She sat next to Spike on the bed, making him flinch. He looked at Twilight with fear in his eyes.

Twilight slowly reached her hoof out to him and softly stroked his scales. “It’s okay, you’re safe.” She whispered. Spike latched onto Twilight and let out loud sobs into her fur. She kept petting his head as he softly sniffled into her. They both laid down on the soft bed.

Soon he became quiet and let out a soft snore. Twilight tried to move back to her desk, but Spike continued to hold onto her protectively in his sleep. She was completely unable to move without waking him up. She felt her eyes become heavy.

“I can finish my homework after this quick nap...”
