Episode 21: Ascended Magic

Twilight Sparkle could barely contain herself. Before her was one of Starswirl the Bearded's spells. Furthermore, it was an incomplete spell. One the famed wizard had never finished before he disappeared. "Spike! Do you know what this means?!" Before the young drake could even give a possible answer, Twilight jumped back into the conversation. "I get to work on something with my idol!"

"That's great Twilight." Spike said with a smile. "Sooo, are you going to need me to get things for you?"

Twilight shook her head. "No Spike. This is something I want to face on my own. Besides, I bet Burst seeing you again would make him pretty happy." Twilight smiled as she watched her adoptive little brother scurry off to find Burst Stream. As soon as Spike was out of her sight, Twilight set to work completing Starswirl's spell. It took her most of the day, but she finally got the spell done. "Good thing I took some breaks working on this spell. Otherwise, I'd be dead tired by now!"

"I'm back Twilight!" Spike called out as he knocked on the door before opening. "Oh nice! You finished the spell!" Spike dashed over to Twilight's side. "You must've been working on this all day long!"

Twilight beamed with pride. "I was. But I'd say it was all time well spent." Twilight held the spell in her hands. "To think. I helped complete an unfinished work of the greatest wizard of all."

"So. . . what's it do?" Spike asked. The drake's simple question instantly shattered Twilight's moment of accomplishment. "Uh, Twilight?"

Twilight face-palmed. "UGH! I can't believe I didn't check out what it does! Oh well. Easy fix." Twilight sat down to read the spell. Her eyes went wide when she discovered the spell's purpose. Slowly, she stood up and ripped the spell parchment to pieces!

"Twilight. . . why did you do that?!" Spike asked in shock. "You said it was your dream to work on a spell with Starswirl! So why did you just destroy the spell you worked so hard to finish?"

Twilight took a deep breath, and smiled at Spike. "Because it did something that I would never want to do to my friends. Spike, that spell would have swapped the lives of my friends around. And that's something I would never do to them. Our friendship isn't perfect. All of us have our flaws, but that's what helps make us special."

"Starswirl may be one of the people I look up to." Twilight said with a fond smile. "But finishing his work doesn't even come close to how much I value my friends. They're what make my life. . . magical." And in that instant, Twilight was enveloped in a brilliant white light! When she opened her eyes, she saw her mentor smiling warmly at her.

"Princess Celestia?! Where am I?" Twilight asked as she surveyed her surroundings.

Celestia smiled at Twilight, and led her down a path. "Congratulations Twilight! I'm happy to announce that you have graduated as my student! You did something not even Starswirl himself fully grasped about friendship. The value of true friends, and the place they hold in your heart."

As the two strolled along the path, memories of Twilight's life appeared in windows along the sides of the path. "I've been watching you for a long time, and seen you come so far." Celestia turned to face Twilight. "And now, the time has come for you to take hold of your destiny!"

Twilight felt a surge of magic rushing through her! In a flash, she was back in the real world! But there was a notable difference. A pair of lavender wings now graced her back! Her friends had all rushed to the scene, and were in awe! Twilight Sparkle had been ascended into an Avatar! Her friends and mentor cheered! Happy for Twilight's graduation and ascension! However, their happy moment was cut short as the sound of marching could be heard just outside of Unityville.

Celestia took to the skies, and her eyes widened in horror. Shining Dawn's Dawn Treaders had marched up to Unityville, and were now standing just outside the town!

Twilight and her friends had gathered, and were gaping in shock at the army outside their town! But the bad news wasn't done yet! From his estate, Shining Dawn smiled as he saw the other half of his Dawn Treaders march through the streets of Castalot and root themselves outside the city!

I can't have our special day interrupted. Shining Dawn thought with a smile. So I decided to spring for a little security to keep out any "wedding crashers" who decide to show.

"Shining Dawn. . . "Celestia said as she scowled at the Dawn Treaders standing just outside of Unityville. "You promised me you wouldn't send out troops if I agreed to your proposal!"

Burst Stream, being close to Celestia and Twilight, heard this. And then, it all came together. He knew why Celestia broke up with him, and the role Shining Dawn played in all of his. As he saw Celestia depart, Burst looked at Twilight. "Twilight? Did you get a wedding invite?"

"Yeah. Princess Celestia handed me one." Twilight asked warily. She then started to grasp what was going through Burst's head. "But Shining Dawn isn't the one we all want to see waiting for Princess Celestia on the altar. So what's the plan?" She said with a small smile.

Burst Stream smirked as he took the invitation, and stared at the venue. "I've got another wedding to crash." He then turned his attention to the force of Dawn Treaders on the edge of Unityville. "And you all have your own party that'll be going down tomorrow."

Back at Shining Dawn's estate, the noble was standing with a smirk on his face as he heard Celestia enter. "I assume you witnessed my army being stationed outside of Unityville and Castalot?" He then turned to face Celestia. "I guess you could say I don't want anyone crashing our wedding. We don't want a repeat of the last royal wedding, do we?"

"You might not. . . " Celestia snapped. "But I'm starting to think otherwise. How dare you go back on your word!"

Shining Dawn shook his head. "Oh, I had every intention of keeping my word. But I see no point since the preparations for our special day have been finished incredibly early. I can't wait to see you walking down the aisle at my estate's chapel."

Celestia slapped Shining Dawn, and teleported back to her castle. She looked to the Optimus Prime plushie, and held it close as she cried. "You're always there for me when I need you Burst. And I pushed you away when I needed you most. . . "
