To start over

Chapter 60

“This weather is absurd! Not to mention what this humidity is doing to my hair!” Rarity commented the next day, earning an eye roll from Rainbow Dash.

“It literally stormed for three days straight! AJ's pastures are literally flooded and I don't even want to know what people in the valley are dealing with!” the athlete commented as she leaned back onto the table before adding “I'm just glad that it stopped!”

“Yeah, although I have a feeling that the princesses had something to do with those things clearing out. I mean they did practically disappear for an hour...and well Luna said something that I didn't think was possible.” Sunset stated as she glanced up from her notebook, which was currently filled with sketches.

“What would that be?” Applejack responded, looking up from her phone where she was texting someone.

“magic takes another form in this world. Like where I'm from it's one of the strongest forces that makes up everything...Here...It's there just untapped, kinda like how streams can be underground. It's there but very few people are willing to dig down enough to find it.”

“I guess that makes sense. More sense than Twilight's explanation about us being able to do it because of something linked back in Equestria. I mean, that power couldn't possibly be summoned through the portal, right?”

“No idea but I could ask sometime. I mean, I found a way to communicate with the Princess after all. Maybe she or Twilight would have a theory or something about it?” Sunset answered with a shrug.

“Speaking of magic, What are you guys going to be for Halloween? I need to know for the party!” Pinkie Pie asked, changing the subject. While they talked about plans Sunset remained silent, unsure how she could even begin to tell them just how she felt about this whole thing.

“Actually guys...I don't think it's a good idea for me to come. I mean...most people still hate me and I know how stupid people can this time of year and I don't want to be covered in rotten eggs or something.” Sunset said, causing a silence to come over the group.

“Guys come on. Not only do I look like an idiot but I'm not sure about this!” Sunset whined as Rainbow Dash pushed her toward a small run-down building.

“Yeah yeah, we heard you but we are not about to have fun without one of our friends!” Rainbow retorted “Now come on, get the lead out the other girl's are waiting.” I definitely hope that this works. As soon as she told Pinkie how she felt that girl went on a planning frenzy. The athlete thought as she shoved Sunset through the doorway.

“Oh, you're finally here. For a moment we thought you wouldn't come.” Sunset was surprised by Chrysalis's voice cutting over the noise of the music.

“What the heck is this? How did you get involved in this?” Sunset asked, earning a laugh from the woman who shrugged.

“Celestia and Luna convinced me. Besides...Luna is not going to pass up anything to do with any holiday. She has too much fun with this kind of things.” Chrysalis stated with a grin before adding “Why do you think that Celestia and Luna practically kicked you out of the house for the evening?”

Sunset groaned as she rolled her eyes. “I am gonna kill them.”

Suddenly a plastic sword pressed against her throat, although the teen just glanced up, seeing her aunt wearing what could only be described as armor with a silver helmet covering her face.

“What the heck? What do you even suppose to be?” She asked, pushing the toy sword away from her face, earning a chuckle from Chrysalis.

“It's from an old sitcom that came on when we were in college....Long story short I think Luna had a crush on the main actress or something.” Chrysalis retorted, biting back a laugh as Luna glared at her.

“I did not! Besides you're the one who flitted around like a love-struck yearling because you were too afraid that the person you like would reject you!”

“Shut up!”

Sunset bit her lip to keep from laughing as she drug Rainbow away from them.

“Did I mention that Chrysalis grew up with Celestia and Luna? That probably would take a while.” she muttered with a sigh as she glanced over at the bickering women.

“they're worse than Me and Applejack.” Rainbow said, laughing a bit before adding “Come on let's go join the others, there are still a few people that wanted to come that isn't here yet.”

“What? Who?!”

“Me for one...Hello Shimmer.”

Sunset whirled around to see Spitfire and a few other members of the soccer team there.

“Pinkie told us you were feeling a bit nervous so we figured we'd come.”

“Yeah besides, we heard about what happened and that was low even for Score.” Fleetfoot stated.

“Yeah, now that's enough of the mushy stuff for later! For now, let's not worry about all of that and have some fun!”

“Sunset? Are you awake?”

The teenager in question yawned as she sat up. “Yeah, what's up Mom?”

Sunset asked, sitting up as she tried to fight the tiredness that was a result of the sugar rush she had coming to the end. Suppressing another yawn she turned toward the woman and stretched a bit. “You look just as tired as I feel.” she commented as she waited for Celestia to take a seat on the bed.

“Trust me, I am not used to events like that. Not since college anyway.” Celestia responded, earning a smirk from the former pony.

“You have got to tell me some of those stories sometime.” Sunset stated, only to earn a pillow to the face from her adoptive mother.

“Not even in your dreams Sunny.” Celestia responded.

She is so different now than on that first night. I didn't think that Sunset would settle in this well with anyone and never did I imagine that she would become like the daughter I never had. She thought as she took in the girl's lighthearted expression.

“I hope I didn't push you too hard tonight, although I dare say that you enjoyed yourself.' she said, half apologetic as Sunset turned her attention back to her.

“I did. I had no idea that Pinkie had roped you guys into it too. But what in the name of the stars was Luna dressed up as? Every time I asked, Chrysalis would make an offhand joke that would start those two arguing like toddlers.” Sunset responded, chuckling at the thought as she added “I want to thank you for everything. I mean...It couldn't have been easy for you to deal with all the craziness I caused.”

“Sunset, I thought we both agreed that you would stop thanking me for every little thing? When I invited you to stay with me, I meant I was going to help you through whatever was thrown your way.” Celestia stated, although her tone was lacking sternness.

“Sorry, I just...I'm not used to someone defending me.” Sunset stated, wrapping her arms around the woman in a hope that the gesture could say what she couldn't.

“I know, but you don't have to worry about being alone again.” Celestia reminded her softly before adding “Now you made me forget what it was I came in here for!”

Sunset giggled a bit at that and pulled away “Sorry! You were saying something about the party?”

“I was just going to say that it was nice seeing you having fun tonight. I'm glad that you have been happier lately, with all things considered.” Celestia began, earning a sheepish look from Sunset who responded

“Well I have all the reason to be and I can't thank you enough for taking a chance with me!”
