DayBreaker's Fall, Celestia's Rebirth

Chapter 1: Whispers

Luna stood in front of the large golden throne, looking her sister directly in the eyes. Luna was frustrated while Celestia was furious. They've been at this one argument for days, even weeks, now. Luna was growing tired of it and she wasn't going to give in, not when there are too many factors that could go wrong.

"As I said sister", Luna stated, "If the day lasted for too long, then ponies will most likely die."

"Die", Celestia asked, voice dripping with anger, "They would be warm and more crops would be able to grow at a larger rate."

Luna sighed and rubbed her face with a hoof. "But then the crops grow at different seasons and they can only be harvested at different seasons. Also, most of the crops grow better at night when it's cooler, and ponies won't die from heat stroke or anything else. Those flowers you love so much, they would die in the sun."

Celestia wasn't truly listening, all she heard was excuses for why the day couldn't last longer than normal. Celestia gritted her teeth and stamped her golden clad hoof on the ground.

"I have heard enough Luna", Celestia said, "I will talk to you later."

"But Celestia", Luna stated, not done with the conversation.

"ENOUGH LUNA", Celestia bellowed, gaining a wince from Luna.

Luna backed away and left the room, still feeling that burning gaze bore into the back of her skull. Celestia, with all of her rage, surprisingly didn't offer a scathing insult to try to discredit Luna and her claims. Luna shook her head as she headed to her room. She would see in time that the day lasting for longer than it needed wasn't such a good idea.

Later on, in Luna's chambers, Luna was going through some paper work. It was from diplomats who wanted to have Luna make a few peace appearances at their estates. Not every pony thought Luna was the sweet type. Luna sighed and signed a few. Just because she kept to herself a lot didn't mean she was some pony to be feared. Maybe it was because of her appearance. Luna shrugged and kept signing papers until there was a knock on the door.

"Come in" Luna said, not looking up from her papers.

A white unicorn, dressed in the gold armor of Celestia's royal guard, entered the room and saluted. "Princess Celestia wishes to see you in her personal chambers."

"I will be there when I can", Luna replied, shooing him away. The guard left with a bow.

Luna groaned and put her papers down. At least this was a break from the annoying work that was still to come. She headed out of her room and headed toward her sister's chambers.

In Celestia's chambers, she was mulling over what to say to her younger sister. A longer day would be beneficial to her little ponies. Everything she suggested would be for her ponies. She sighed and paced around her room. She could've sworn that in the back of her mind, she heard a voice that was whispering to her. Celestia dismissed it as her own thoughts. She was pretty miffed that her sister wouldn't listen to reason after all. It was probably natural for her to have inner thoughts like that, just a distant whisper.

There was a knock on her door.

"Sister, are you in there", Luna's voice came from the other side of the door.

"Y-Yes sister", Celestia said, "Please....come in."

Luna opened the door and shut it behind her, sitting on the cushioned seat next to Celestia's own. Luna looked quite tired even though it wasn't yet time to raise the moon. Luna put a hoof on her chin and sighed.

"What is it Celestia", Luna said, trying to keep the annoyance from her voice.

"Well, it's about the longer days", Celestia stated.

Luna groaned and rolled her eyes, "Tia we have talked about this! There can be no balance if one part of the day gets more priority over the other. It can lead to disaster."

"But I can make it work LuLu", Celestia said, "I can make it so that no pony will be harmed."

Luna mumbled something under her breath and stood. "We are done here Tia, we have no reason to argue this anymore."

"B-But", Celestia started.

Luna held up a hoof to silence her older sister, "I am the younger of us but yet I have to be the mother. I will not go through this with you again. Drop it."

With that, Luna turned and left the room. Celestia shouted in anger and stamped her hooves on the ground, cracking the floor. If Luna would've stayed, she would've noticed the orange flash that overtook the usually magenta eyes for a moment. Celestia paced again in her room, fury coming off of her in waves.

"Why won't she listen", Celestia fumed, "She keeps making excuses! She's not mother! I am the oldest so I should do whatever I want!"

A voice whispered from the back of her mind, "Yes, you should be able to. As you said, you are the oldest."

"But I have to keep balance so the world will be stable but", Celestia said, still pacing but starting to slow down.

The voice grew a bit louder, "Who needs balance when you get what you want? You can have it all. You don't need Luna for anything. Get rid of her, she doesn't share your ideas.

Celestia stopped for a minute, "But I love my sister...."

"She doesn't love you. Think about it, if she really loved you, she would've let you keep the sun up for a little while longer. Think about it. She doesn't love you."

There seemed to be a presence next to her, whispering in her ear, leaning closer and closer. It felt familiar but....foreign. It was....strange.

The presence was touching her now, whispering directly into her ear, "Think about it. Just.....think about it."

Celestia whirled around as the presence laughed. She found nothing. There was nothing there at all. Celestia just gritted her teeth and went to her desk, paperwork already there from earlier in the day. She had work to do, and that paperwork wasn't on the list. If she was going to bring about new ideas for a lasting day, then she had to start now.
