To start over

Chapter 47

“I swear we're going to have to buy a boat if this rain doesn't let up.” Luna complained once Sunset had passed out on the couch sometime later, leaving her and Celestia awake. “I mean, this weather came out of nowhere. Do you think it's some kind of magic that came out of nowhere?”

Celestia sighed and glanced toward the living room before shrugging. “who knows? To be honest, it wouldn't surprise me since it wasn't that long ago since a portal opened and who knows what craziness was drawn to the energies produced by that whole mess.”

Just what could have found it's way from Equestria to our world thanks to the large surges of energy like that? Did that somehow open some kind of rip or portal that they could come into this world from that one? How does that all work? She wondered although she knew that she would probably never voice these thoughts aloud since she didn't want to risk Sunset thinking even worse of her self than she seemed to already do.

“Yeah, Zecora probably knows more about this than we do. It's just too bad that the only other person who has any idea what is going on would probably have a complete mental breakdown if we asked her.” Luna commented with a sigh as she added “Too bad that there's no way to contact Twilight Sparkle about this. She would probably know.”

Celestia sighed and glanced out the window at the streaks of lightning, turning the options over in her mind. “Yes, well it's probably the best that we try to handle this mess ourselves without involving any more magical beings from foreign lands.” she said eventually, glancing down at the table before adding “but for now....we better worry about the mess with the school. This nonsense has gone on far too long as it is.”

Luna tried not to let her emotions show as she thought about what had transpired but even that didn't help her control herself. “I swear if I was back at that age again...” she began, however, what she was saying got interrupted when the lights suddenly went out.

“And can this get any worse?” she growled out, turning on the light on her phone “I'll go light some candles...and the fireplace before it gets cold in here. Of all the times the fucking power could go out...”

Celestia rolled her eyes at her sister's dramatics as she too got up and went through the house, gathering flashlights and extra blankets.

“Looks like we're going to be camping out in the living room. Just keep your pet away from me.”

“Okay then keep your bird away from Tiberius. Last time that thing packed him all over the house!” Luna retorted from somewhere in the living room.

A strange aura caused Sunset to jolt awake, the sound of thunder echoing throughout the silent house. Glancing around the darkness in an attempt to find the source of the aura, finding none. What the world is happening? Did I mess up this world that badly? She wondered bitterly, sitting up only to find that someone had tossed an extra blanket over her sometime during the night.

What the Tartarus? She wondered, slowly getting off the sofa only to trip over something, catching herself from falling with her good hand, although the stitching pulled slightly causing a bee-sting sensation to run throughout her skin.

“what the?” Sunset bit out though as her eyes adjusted to the dim light she couldn't help but giggle at the sight before her. Luna was laying in the recliner, a blanket bunched around her and Tiberius curled up on her lap.

“Well...I see I'm not the only one who's a restless sleeper.” Sunset mumbled before walking across the room and pulling a curtain back, only to yelp when the whole sky lit up with lightning.

“The storm seems to still be going strong and according to the radio in my car...this power outage is spanned across town.” Celestia's sudden statement caused Sunset to nearly leap out of her skin, though she quickly managed to relax.

“This isn't normal, is it? Even for weather here.” Sunset questioned as she stumbled her way back across the room before asking “Have you ever been asleep? You look dead tired.”

“Luna and I both have been keeping an eye on the storm. With the rain like this, you never know when something severe will pop up.” Celestia's answer came, causing the teen to sigh.

“Then let me take a shift so that you both can rest. It's not like I'm some little kid or something. I can stay up a few hours.”

Celestia wanted to argue but didn't, knowing that she'd just end up bickering with the stubborn girl.

“Alright, but if you start getting tired you wake one of us up. I do not want you to overdo it.” she relented, earning a look of annoyance from the teen.

“I know Mom. I have to rest and take care of myself if I want to heal fast.” the word still felt foreign on her tongue but it was still nice to finally get to say it. “How about if I do this for an hour then get Luna up? Does that sound alright?”

There has got to be something at work here...Maybe some kind of magic that was caused by the element of magic being brought through the portal? Or maybe residue from the blast that the bearers of harmony used to drive the demon out of me? Sunset thought as she felt her way up the stairs and into her room, holding the flashlight in her mouth in an attempt to rummage single handily through the few things that she had brought from Equestria.

Maybe I should ask someone else for their opinion....Someone who knows more about magic than I do...But...What if she hates me? There are so many things that could go wrong. Inhaling and holding it for a few seconds, Sunset tried to will herself to calm down. But if this is Equestrian magic then I need to do whatever I can to fix this because if it is, it's my fault anyway. She thought as she picked up the journal that she had tossed at the wall a few weeks ago.

Closing her eyes she tried to summon the courage to actually use the thing. I probably shouldn't bother them with my problems, I was enough trouble to them in their world. But I can't endanger more people here because of my own stupidity. She thought as she stood and made her way toward her desk, taking out a pen from the drawer then with a shaking hand she forced herself to write out the words:

Dear Princess Celestia,

I know I am probably the last person pony you would want to hear from after everything that I have done over the years but I need some advice and you're probably the only one who can help me, even though I don't blame you if you don't want to because I was nothing but a conceited, temperamental brat that couldn't separate reality from fiction and I'm sorry for everything. I know that those words mean next to nothing for what I've both said and done but I hope that you will at least hear me out, this one last time.

Something is going on in this world, something I think was caused when I brought the crown back here with me. I know this is basically my problem and that I should fix it but I don't even know where to start. I mean, what kind of magic can cause the weather to go mad?

I know I shouldn't be bothering you or anyone else with this but if it isn't too much trouble can you at least write back and give me at least a hint at where to look for the answer? I know this is my fight but I can't just watch the people I care about suffer because of some dumb decision that I made.”

your former student,

Sunset Shimmer.
