Progression of the Heart

by King Thunderwing

Surprised Reunion

It had been a very long time since the new resident to Ponyville had arrived from Canterlot. Thunderwing is his name. He is a Pegasus pony who had moved to Ponyville soon after Storm King’s attack on Canterlot. He was a personal friend with Princess Luna but they grew apart after the years of being busy with their own affairs with Thunderwing’s work as an elite Wonderbolt and the Princess’… Well, being a Princess who has the duty to help ponies have good dreams, raising and setting the moon to start a new day. Thunderwing is a white Pegasus with a long, pure black mane and tail with piercing blue eyes. His cutiemark was a pair of wings with a gust of wind that’s seemingly flowing past them.

One night, Thunderwing had decided to go for a late night flight to relieve himself from a bit of stress he accumulated after a few weeks of intense training and formation practice. Soarin and Spitfire had impleminted it to the training program for all high level fliers, even the reseve and high ranked rookies. He gazed over the calm meadows and fields of grass, spotting a flower every now and then as he flew over the fields. He flew far and long, flying over Canterlot, waving at a few guards that looked up at him from the ground and he was friendily greeted back with smiles and waves of hooves in return. He took a few deep breaths to relieve himself further from the stress, continuing to fly over the countryside, even flying over Sweet Apple Acres, peering down at the barn and farmhouse in the distance before heading down to a small open patch that was surrounded by trees, seemed to be the perfect place to go for a picnic with a mare, if the day should come. There was also a large pond that glistened in the evening light. Thunderwing landed almost silently as his hooves made contact to the soft grass and took a stroll to the nearby pond, feeling his wings ached slightly for flying such a long distance. He sat back onto is haunches as he peered over the water covered area with a content, soft smile as he admired the beauty of the scenery around him. He quietly studied a falling leaf, his ears slightly perked in attention as he saw the leaf making contact with the water, sending tiny ripples outwards to the edges.

After a brief time near the pond and in the cool evening breeze, he stood up before extending his wings and launch up off of the ground to return home. He flew over Canterlot again on his way back to Ponyville, all being quiet exept for the wind rustling through his feathers as he glided. As he approached his house which was a little futher away from Ponyville itself, he suddenly crashed into an unidentified being that was wearing a brown cloak. As the two ponies fall to the ground, Thunderwing recovered as quickly as he was dazed, seeing the other cloaked pony fall and wrapped his forehooves around them, gently returning himself and the unidentified pony to the ground a few yards away from his house. He gazed at the unconcious cloaked pony for a little while before taking off the cowl of the cloak. His eyes widened at who he saw had crashed into him and sent them both plumiting to the earth. It was Princess Luna that had accidentally crashed into him. The cape that she wore was too big for her, which meant that she couldn’t see properly from underneath the cowl over her head. She was completely knocked out and Thunderwing decided to take her inside into his house so she can rest. He placed her gently on one of the spare room’s beds and gently laid her head down on the softest pillow he had before leaving the room, silently closing the door. He went to the kitchen to prepare a cup of coffee and some extra water for when the Princess woke up later the night if she is to wake up during that night at all.

A few hours had passed since the accident, Thunderwing feeling a gentle bump on his head where he made contact with his unconcious royal guest, waiting for her to wake. Meanwhile the Princess is already awake but she stays on the bed due to a massive headache she suddenly woke up with. “Urgh” she groans faintly as she gently rubs a hoof over the sore area on her head. The door slowly swinged open and she is immediately on guard to cast a beam at a potential enemy. Her eyes widened as she saw the white figure of a pony enter the room with a serving tray in his mouth with a bowl of carrot soup and a warm cup of coffee. Thunderwing placed the tray on the bedside table and looked at Luna with a soft smile as she looked at him in utter awe.

“H-Hey Lulu, it’s been quite some time since we last saw eachother.” He said nervously, but managing to keep his composure. Luna suddenly just lashed out at him, wrapping her forehooves tightly around him, giving him a hug.

“I haven’t seen you in years!” Luna exclaimed as she clinged tightly to her long lost friend, smiling like a young filly whom’st’ve’d received candy from a parent. Thunderwing gently wrapped a hoof around Luna, smiling softly as he did so.

“Indeed it has.” He said as he gave her a soft smile.

“I missed you so much. How have you been? How’s work? How’s life here in Ponyville? What have you been up to recently?” Luna asked as she let go, lying on her belly whilst on the bed.

“Calm down, one question at a time.” Thunderwing chuckled “I brought you something to eat and drink.” He said, pointing a hoof at the tray. Luna took a breath, “Okay. How have you been?” She asked as she levitated the cup with her magic, bringing it to her lips to take a sip.

“I’ve been well.” He smiled. “And you?”

“You don’t even want to know.” Luna offered with a roll of her eyes as she took a sip of the coffee. “And work? How’s that treating you?” She asked with a raised brow.

“Work’s good, just stressful at times to keep my wings in proper shape for when one of the ‘bolts are off duty. They implimented a new training and formation program that everyone has to learn and train for which is hard work.” He said with a nod.

Luna gave a nod, hearing what her friend told her. “And life here in Ponyville?” She asked as she sat up onto her haunches, staring down at the white Pegasus in front of her.

“I really can’t complain about the life here. Everypony is so nice and always there to lend a helping hoof when asked. Not to mention friendly as well.” Thunderwing smiled.

“That’s good to hear Thunder. The ponies must be all over you since you must certainly be the most talented flyer they have in the Wonderbolts team.” Luna said with a soft grin.

“I seriously don’t believe anything you just said. I might be agile. But I’m not the best.” He protested with a low wave of his hoof. Luna let out a soft sigh.

“Stubborn as always, you haven’t changed a bit.” She chuckled and ruffled his mane before lifting herself up off of the bed, standing in front of him.

Thunderwing just let out a soft wheeze of irritation, his wings twitching slightly as he readjusts his mane with a single swipe of his hoof before turning away from his friend. “You want to join me in the living room?” Thunderwing said, motioning his hoof towards the open door.

“Sure, just let me grab these real quick.” She uses her magic to lift the tray from it’s previous surface, carrying it with her as she made her way out of the door with a gentle stride, thin smile on her face. They both go sit down near the fire for a bit of warmth, Luna gently rubbing the sore bump on her head when she flew into the Wonderbolt.

“So” Thunderwing said, looking over at Luna.

“Yes?” She replied, raising her brows as she looks at him.

“Where were you going at this time? I know you have to wander at night and help ponies with their dreams, but why were you wearing a cloak?” He frowned.

Luna gave a soft sigh, gently dropping her head. “I just want to go on vacation for a while. I snuck out of the castle to get away for a while, even if it’s only for a few days.” She said with her ears splayed back a bit, her head hanging low.

“But you”ll still raise and lower the moon, right?” He asked, his brow furrowing a bit.

Luna raised her head, her ears perked up in attention. “Of course! I-I just want a break away from the castle, to live as a normal pony instead of being so high and mighty. To be t-treated just like everypony else.” She sighed again, her ears splayed back yet again. Thunderwing scooted closer a bit, gently resting his hoof on her shoulder.

“Okay. If that is what you want, then feel free to live with me but you must disguise yourself as a regular pony then. You can shapeshift with your ‘infinate’ amount of magic, right?” He raises a brow, biting his tongue gently.

“Yes, of course I can do that. I have studied multiple types of magic and shape shifting magic was one of the many types that I had learned.” She said confidently.

“So you can literally pass as a changeling now.” He chuckled. She gently hit his shoulder with a hoof, giggling

“I could and maybe go live with Kuno and Warden in that giant mansion as a changeling but they might get suspicious of me since I don’t have something to identify myself with. Besides, I don’t know much of changelings though.” She said as she bit her lip in thought before sticking out her tongue playfully at Thunderwing, gently nudging him with her shoulder.

“We should probibly go to bed.” Thunderwing said as he got up.

“You can sleep in the spare bedroom. I gave you the comfiest pillow that I own.” He said with a smile as he trotted off to his room, closing the door and immediately hopping into bed.

Luna stayed up for a bit later so that she can lower the moon for her sister’s daylight to take over before going to bed herself, getting nice and snug. She passes out almost instantly as her head hit the pillow, forgetting about the slight headache that she has from the accident that occurred earlier and blissfully falling asleep with a gentle smile on her face.
