Chapter 2: Kindergarten

Five years later:

It was Monday morning when Sunset Shadow woke up to the sound of her alarm. Sunset woke up at 6:15 to make sure everyone was ready for school. She turned over in her bed and pushed her alarm clock off of the nightstand to turn it off. Summer’s school started every morning at 7:00, so Sunset usually went to get her up at 6:30. Sunset grumbled as her hooves hit the cloud floor below her. Today was a big day. It was the first day of kindergarten for five year old Rainbow Dash. Kindergarten started at 7:15 Sunset was going to wake her up with her sister.

Sunset walked to the bathroom to get in the shower. Once the warm shower was done she glanced at the clock. “6:45! Great I’m already late.” Sunset Shadow opened the cloud door to her daughter’s room and walked in. “Wake up Summer! You’re going to be late to school!” She told the 14 year old. Summer gets out of bed to get ready, but slowly. Sunset just rolled her eyes.

In the next room Rainbow Dash was still sleeping peacefully. “Wake up Dashie we have to go to school now,” Sunset said as she pulled the covers off of the sleeping filly.

“But mommy, I don’t want to go to school. I want to stay here and sleep,” Rainbow said with puppy dog eyes, but that doesn’t work on her mother.

“Get up!” Her mother said with a glare. This time Rainbow Dash obeyed.

“Now since the children are up I need to make lunches.” Sunset went into the kitchen and made some toast for breakfast, and put some food and snacks into their lunchboxes. Summer Bliss trotted into the kitchen followed by her sister. “Eat quickly girls or we will be late.”

The fly to the schoolhouse was short. Fillies and colts can be seen with their parents walking in with them, but the older ponies Summers age did not want their parents to walk in with them. “Awww, do you want me to walk you in Summer?” Her mother asked.

“NO!” Summer said as she flew off quickly.
“Come on Dashie we are going to meet your teacher.” Rainbow walked nervously behind her mother.

“What if everypony hates me?” Rainbow Dash asked her mother.

“Nopony will hate you Rainbow Dash everything will be fine,” Her mother said as they found the classroom.

“Hi you must be Rainbow Dash. I am mrs. Winds and I am your teacher?” Mrs Winds introduced. “You can go sit in whatever desk you want.”

“By mom,” Rainbow Dash said as she hugged her mother and trotted into the classroom. Rainbow looks around and sees an open seat and sits down. A filly beside her with a yellow coat and a pink mane looks at her, but when Rainbow Dash looks at the filly and she looks away. “Hi I’m Rainbow Dash.”

“Um hi I’m Fluttershy,” she said shyly as her pink hair fell over her face. At that moment Mrs. Winds closes the door and puts a piece of paper on her desk and looks at the board.

“Hello class my name is Mrs. Winds and I will be your teacher this year. How about you introduce yourselves? Tell us three things about yourselves and your family?” Mrs. Winds said.

A girl named Angel Wings started. “I live with my older brother, mom, and dad. My name is Angel Wings and I love to fly, play with my brother, and eat!” All of the fillies and colts clapped as she finished and bowed. Rainbow Dash knew she was dramatic.

Next was a colt named Hoops. “ I’m Hoops and I live with my mom and dad. I like playing basketball and flying.”

“My name is Dumbbell I live with my sister, mother and father. I like sleeping, flying, and my friends,” he said.

Next was Fluttershy. When everypony turned to look at her she blushed hard. “Um… My name is Fluttershy and I live with my brother, mom, and dad. I love animals, my family, and cooking,” she said.

It was her turn. “My name is Rainbow Dash and I live with my mom and sister. I like flying, my sister, and the Wonderbolts.”

“Okay now lets learn!” The teacher said cheerfully

Sunset walked into the Wonderbolt mess hall with her teammates. Silver Lining and Blue Jet walked in front as she followed behind. “You need to walk faster,” Silver said as Blue Jet put her hoof in the way.

“Wait when does your daughters get out of school?” Blue Jet asked

“Summer gets out now today and rainbow gets out at 2:15 because I thought sending her to all day kindergarten would be better for the schedule.”

“What is Summer going to do since mommy is at work until 5:00 today? Run around in the street?” Silver questioned pushing his silver hair out of his eyes. “You know how much Firefly hates when you leave early.”

“I know. I think she will come and do homework in Firefly’s office or watch us practice.” Sunset Shadow suggested as they got their food and went to sit at a table.

“Wait, you’re saying ponies have homework on the first day of school?” Blue Jet asked.

“There has always been homework on the first day of school. You just never did it,” Sunset said casually. Then Summer Bliss sat beside her mother and put her backpack on the floor.

“Hey mom,” Summer said as she smiled at Silver and Jet. “You would not believe how much homework YOU have tonight for me,” Summer smirked.

“Like I told you I do not do your homework,” Sunset said.

“It’s not my homework,” She said as she pulled out a packet for the parents to read labeled ‘Everything you need to know about your foals classes and school.’ Sunsets head hit the table when she eyed the papers.

“I swear Parents have more homework than kids.”

At 2:15 Summer Bliss flew to the school to pick up her sister. When she walked into the school she saw parents walking to find their kids. Mrs. Winds smiled at Summer as she walked into the classroom to find Rainbow Dash.

Rainbow Dash was sitting on the ground with Fluttershy telling stories when she saw Summer. “Hi Summer! Meet my new friend Fluttershy.”

“Hi Fluttershy thanks for being Dashie’s friend.”

“You are welcome,” Fluttershy said diverting her eyes to the floor.

“Oh look, it is Rainbow Dash and her sister, but without a father because he didn’t want her and no mother because she is to busy,” Hoops said as Dumbbell laughed. Summer Bliss rolled her eyes as they walked out of the room. Glancing gown at Dash put a frown on her face.

“Don’t worry Rainbow. He is just jealous because your family is better,” Summer assured, but it did not take the frown off of her face.

“Why don’t I have a father?” Rainbow Dash asked.

“Your father was not happy with mom so he left, but don’t let that get you down because you have a loving sister and mother,” Summer said as she took Rainbow’s hoof. Usually Rainbow Dash would not let her, but just this once she did.
