It was the early hours of the morning in Ponyville, the time of day that some people were awake but most people still lay asleep; it was the time before the sun would break over the horizon, but the sky had transitioned to a deep, light, blue; The only noises were that of farmponies feeding their goats, salesponies had reached their stores and were setting up for the new day. The only sounds beyond the ordinary could be heard near the school and castle of friendship as the noises of somepony doing paperwork could be faintly heard.

Twilight sparkle was shuffling through paperwork, she had made it through most of the year as headmaster, and looked forward to the following morning when the Easter break would start, the students would be sent away for a while, and she could hang out with her friends more. As she tirelessly went through the all-important paperwork that kept the school running, her secretary spike, with his wings, flew in as he landed next to her, over the months, Spike’s wings had turned to become ordinary, what would have to Spike been a long off dream had happened, so it was surprising how routine it had become so quickly: spike handed Twilight another batch of paperwork, saying whether or not the parents of the students had given consent for the students to stay at the school or to go home with them over the Easter break; the purple dragon turned and said “Well that’s the final batch isn’t it? It’s going to be great to relax with the rest, and have it be like the old days, you know, before the school, castle or even you becoming an Alicorn. Those days when we just had to worry about simply learning friendship, and not teaching it?”

“I miss those days too spike. But we can’t live in the past, but we still can have fun with the rest of the gang, and pretend it was still that time.” Twilight said with a heavy sigh, and she then went to push her seal of approval on the last of some mundane piece of paper, and then cracked a large smile of relief as she told spike jubilantly “that’s it for work, it’s finally the break for us!” and then went on to hug Spike.


Elsewhere in the Library….

In a quiet corner of the Library, Starlight Glimmer, Twilight’s former pupil, now friendship councilor, had been doing some late night reading, she generally had trouble sleeping on occasion, she actually missed her solid carpet of a “bed” from our town, complete totalitarianism could make one’s butt uncomfortable sometimes; she missed her old bed because it felt familiar. Anyway, she had been reading a book about kites, she was going to go with her friend Maud pie and fly kites together, like Twilight Sparkle, she had lots of paperwork over the course of the school year until that point, and was ready to finally relax with her friends Trixie and Discord. As she went on, reading in the quiet chamber, she sensed a faint amount of magic, being a unicorn she could hear, see and generally sense magic better than Pegasi or Earth ponies. She then got up and went to see what it was.

She cast a spell and concentrated her magic into her horn to form a lighting spell, and she then clopped through the dark corridors with a steady beat to her hooves hitting the floor. Nothing had seemed out of the ordinary, and as she turned to leave, somewhat unnerved, she froze in shock.

In front of her, was a gaping hole, that had not been there before, it had a staircase leading down, she then went to inspect the secret room, but not without preparing a shield spell. She went inside and stared into the deep, dark, dank and destroyed room; ‘This is very abnormal’ Starlight Glimmer thought to herself as she clopped further down the staircase, she then reached several bookshelves and on a stand in the middle of the room, she saw a large, leather bound book. She took it, and took it upstairs, ‘I’ll tell Twilight about this tomorrow’ she thought, since the book had posed no threat, but she still made sure to take the liberty to seal off that part of the library. She then went to bed, somewhat unnerved.


Several hours later

The following morning, it was almost noon, Twilight had said goodbye to her students and wished them all a happy Easter, she was tired and couldn’t wait to finish with them, they were great students, most of them were, but they could be a real handful sometimes. She then trotted back to the friendship castle happily, but before she reached the castle she saw that Starlight was trying to get her attention, when Twilight finally got back, Starlight said: “I found something weird last night.” and then showed her the book.

Twilight carefully inspected the book “quite an old book I see” she directed the comment to Starlight. As she began to wonder whether there was anything special about it, she then stopped and almost dropped the book in shock, it had a date reading to over 3000 moons, the language was in a form of old Ponish so old, that it was even before Starswirl lived, it was from a time that the only ‘long living’ that would still be alive would be Draconequui such as discord would still be alive that day today. Any Alicorns from that time period would be dead, it was in a time of political frenzy, as this was in the period when Draconequui, and all pony races were coming together as one to form a new society, the first advanced society of its time. This was an amazing find, she then ecstatically said to Starlight “It’s from the equuthisthyian period!” which led to a similar reaction from Starlight.  This was unbelievable, she had to get the rest of the mane 6.
