//------------------------------// // Memories of the Past (Part 1) // Story: A Guardian's Tale in Equestria // by TheWolfSpartanBrony //------------------------------// "Like what you see hunter?" asked Xûr "Yeah, it's quite the collection you have here." I answered then noticed there was three black duffel bag with the hunter, titan, and warlock logos on the side of them. As I looked down at the bags. Then Xûr started talking again. "Ah... I see you noticed the Starter kits. Each bag as a set of armor for each class in them along with one Primary, one Secondary, and one heavy weapon and a Ghost shell. Though I see you already have an armor set Hunter." "Yeah, well one could alway use another set of armor and weapons. So how much for the hunter starter kit?" I asked Xûr "One thousand one hundred and thirty dollars." answers Xûr "Hm... and just out of curiosity how much would Sunshot, Outbreak Prime, Zhalo Supercell with Not a Toy ornament, Icebreaker with dunemaker ornament, Legend of Acrius with the Emperor's Pleasure ornament, Merciless with Break of Dawn ornament, Bolt-Caster, Iron Gjallarhorn, and Super Good Advice on top of the Hunter starter kit?" I asked knowing that if I get the starter kit I get something to hold everything I want. "That would be two thousand four hundred and thirty dollars. Though I could add some ornaments to the starter kit's armor for say an extra twenty bucks. What do you say hunter?" "I think I will take it!" I exclaim as I hand over $2,450 out of 5K I had in my wallet. Knowing a few legendary armor sets that uses ornaments. The Age of Triumph raid armor sets, the Trials of Osiris' Vigil armor, and the Days of Iron set. So I was curious what armor set was in the bag. "Best of luck to you hunter!" stated Xûr enthusiastically as I walked off with my bag of goodies. Not long afterwords I started to get sick to my stomach and started towards the bathrooms that were close by, but I never made it there as I blacked out not three feet from the bathroom doors. That was all I remember for a time. Buying exotic weapons from a man dressed as Xûr who sold me on a bag of armor and weapons. When I woke up in a deserted and crumbling building that resembled a convention hall. That was all I could recall along with a name Maximus Meridius. I couldn't remember the reason why that was my name, but it was my name. "Guardian... Guardian eyes up." stated a female British voice above me. "Wha..." was all I was able to get out before the voice continued. "Oh you have no idea how long I have been looking for you!" as the voice talked my vision became clearer and I could identify who was talking to me. A small white diamond shaped drone with four triangular protrusions on two sides of the drone. "What happened?" I asked "...Well you have been dead a long time. So you will see things that you won't know." stated the drone "Ok..." I state as I sit down, "What are you?" I ask the drone to try to keep my mind off the fact that I died and am alive again. "A Ghost and am your Ghost now." stated my Ghost "Ok, do you know where we are?" I ask "In the remains of a convention hall in what used to be Anaheim, California. Though we should head out soon." answered my Ghost "Why?" I ask my Ghost. "Because this area is not entirely safe." was her answer "Alright then what kind of threats could we face?" I asked her. "The Fallen, the Hive, the Cabal, and the Vex. Though mostly the Fallen for now." was her answer "The fuck are those?" I asked as I got up and started to look for an exit. "The Fallen are an insectoid alien species that fights against the remnants of humanity, as well as the other races vying for control of the Solar System. They are notorious scavengers and raiders, the Fallen seek to reclaim their glory by taking control of the Traveler at any cost." states my Ghost. "Well shit..." was all I could think about the Fallen, "Though what is the Traveler?" I asked my Ghost "The Traveler is well a mystery to every one, but what is known about it is that it came to this solar system one day and started the Golden Age of Humanity. That Golden Age didn't last for the Traveler's enemy, The Darkness. Came for the Traveler and humanity. After some time the Traveler pushed the Darkness back and gave humanity a chance at the cost of its self. In it's dying breath the Traveler created the Ghosts to search for warriors to protect humanity in its stead. Also the Last City sits under the Traveler." answered my Ghost "Damn... So there is still hope in this shit show?" I ask "Yeah, though it's miles from here." answers my Ghost "Then lets get a move on." I state as I continue to look for a way out "You'll need a weapon to survive the journey there genius. Luckily there's some right ...here. Odd." states my Ghost with what would have been a tilt of her head if she had a body. "Huh ...Neat." I state as I pick up the auto rifle leaning against a large black and gold chest. Rifle in question is a Khvostov 7G-02 a common Auto Rifle. "What's up with the chest?" I ask as I hold the Khvostov in my hands. "There is a message attached to the chest's locking mechanism. It says, 'The key will reveal itself when you are worthy Hunter. signed the IX' Well this is certainly interesting." answers my Ghost "That is odd. Can you pick it up and who is or are the IX?" I ask right as a howl sounds off somewhere outside. "Yeah, though we should get moving. The Nine are a mysterious group, some believe them to Ghosts, others believe them leviathan intelligences from the seas of Europa or the Hydrocarbon pits of Titan, some believe them to be Warminds that survived the Collapse on stealth platforms, but what is known about them is that they have immense power and they seem to have an interest in you Guardian. The Fallen will be on us soon from the sounds of it." she answers as the chest disappear into a bluish whitish pixels. "Right then, where do we need to go?" I ask "Here." was her answer as she projected a holographic map of the world. with a red line going northeast for what looked like roughly twenty-nine miles then it went straight west until it reached somewhere in near what was the Rocky Mountains. "Well, it could be further." I state "Which is why we will go here first to see if there is still a working ship left there." states my Ghost as she puts a new marker on the three-D map that looked to be LAX or what's left of it. "Right then, time we got out of here." I state as I left the remnants of the convention hall to trek towards the now named Los Angeles Space Port. It had taken me the entire day to walk to what was the LAXSP or what was LAX. By the time I got there the sun had set an hour and a half ago. Thankfully one of the functions of a Ghost is a flashlight, so Faye, the short hand for the name I had made for my Ghost, She didn't really like it, but her voice reminded me of someone I had known named Faye Fulcrum. During the course of the day she relented in accepting that as her name. About half way there I ran into a band of Fallen that were flying a banner that Faye had not seen in some time, The house of Dusk. That was about one or two in the afternoon. Anyways once they saw me I had to duck for cover behind a rusted out car that looked like a Prius. Over the curse of half an hour I had killed about fourteen Shanks, twelve Dregs, sixteen Vandals, two Captains, and died fourteen times. The Fallen that were left were four Vandals, one Captain, a Barron, and a Archon. Not sure why there was an Archon here, but hey one less Fallen for the City to worry about. The Vandals and Captain were easy targets for me to take down. The Barron and Archon would be quite the task to kill. Though by that time I had unlocked the grenade ability for the Gunslinger subclass. There wasn't much for me to work with seeing as the two remaining Fallen had destroyed the car husk I was using as cover, so I moved behind the remains of a pickup truck body. In the process of moving from cover to cover I noticed a tanker truck that was right behind the Barron and Archon and was leaking some sort of liquid. My guess was gasoline. What luck I had, so I chucked the incendiary grenade as high and as far as I could throw. The grenade bounced off of the car husk I was aiming for and rolled under the tanker. One second the Fallen were there the next one was evaporated and the other was barely clinging to life. So I shot the thing when I got to it and started pillaging anything worth taking. What I found was a scout rifle, three hand cannons, four shotguns, a fusion rifle, two machine guns, a rocket launcher and a set of armor. All but the armor I couldn't use due to the higher level needed to properly use them. The armor set consisted of a Rouge 4.5 Helmet, Rouge 4.5 Gauntlets, Rough 4.5 Chest, Rouge 4.5 Legs, and a Makeshift Scarf. The rest of the walk was enlightening and quiet, for Faye had told me of the other races trying to kill humanity. The Vex scare me the most, mainly their ability to change time and erase people from existence. While the Cabal intrigue me mostly in their weapons and ammo. The hive can go fuck themselves for all I care. Fucking zombie look alikes. Now that we are at the Spaceport Faye found the remains of a hotel and I found a room that still had an intact bed. Once I had found the room I fell face first onto the mattress. The next day Faye and I scoured the ruins of LAXSP for a working jumpship and by late afternoon of the second day of scouting Faye had found one, an old Arcadia Class Jumpship, that was still in working order minus one key part, a warp drive. Thankfully that was all that was really missing for everything else checked out and we launched for the Last Safe City on Earth. The flight there was bout an hour and a half going at max speed. Once I had arrived in the Tower, the main Guardian hub of the City, with my helmet off. I was in awe of the view. "Quite the view, huh?" asked Faye as she materialized over my right shoulder. "Yeah it is... So now what?" I ask her "Well we should speak with the Vanguard first, then we could check the ship wright for a warp drive for our ship and if she doesn't have one we could go back to LAXSP to see if the Fallen there have it stashed somewhere around the place." was her answer which was as good a plan as any right now. So I went to where the Vanguard were in the Hall of Guardians. "So this is our new Guardian, killing a Barron and Archon on his first day up. Nice job kid." stated a blue and silver robot with a horn poking out from under a hood of a cloak. As I approached a long table with three figures standing around it. "Indeed, both are quite the tough opponents." stated a blue bald guy in a thick set of armor. "Eh, well they were standing in front of a tanker truck that still had fuel in it somehow. So yeah, they went ...Boom." I state accentuating the boom with an exploding hand gesture. "It is good to see a hunter with a head on his shoulders." states a black bald woman wearing robes of sorts. "Hey! I know how to use my head!" stated the robot. "Yeah, for stabbing people." I state which got a chuckle out of the woman and Awoken. Though the Awoken spoke up befor the robot could make a remark. "It had come to our attention from shipwright Amanda Holliday that your ship does not possess a warp drive." stated the bald guy. "Yeah, Faye pointed that out to me when we left the LA." I stated "There have been reports of Fallen scavenging parts around the cosmodrome of Old Russia. It is imperative you acquire one to make the travel through the solar system much faster." said the woman "If that doesn't work, your Ghost pinged the LAXSP to potentially have one as well. Oh, before fore you go you might need some better gear, so here." said the robot who handed me a cloak. Which turned out to be the Maverick's Cloak. "Thanks." I state as I take the cloak from his hand and walk out of the hall knowing that I need to get that warp drive for my ship otherwise I'm stuck flying around this rock.
