Chrysalis stands up slowly, her eyes fixed solely on you. You are once again reminded just how much taller than you she really is. 

“So, Creature, whatever shall we talk about?”

The words roll off her serpentine tongue. You stand still, working through in your head which would be the most appropriate thing to ask first. Maybe a name would be nice to get, that way you will not have to try and cover up if you slip and say her name again. 

You open your mouth to speak, but are stopped when, in the blink of an eye, Chrysalis fades from existence and reappears right in front of you. 

She lowers her head until her muzzle is right next to your left ear. 

Softly, almost seductively, she coos, “Sorry, you took much too long, and your Queen has matters to attend to…”

She pulls back, angling her head so that her long, gnarled horn is aimed directly at your chest. Then, in a single motion, she plunges directly in to your chest, ripping through tissue and muscle and bone alike, piercing the wall that you stand against. 

As she retracts her head and the appendage, you feel every twisted inch sliding itself back out through your wound. The last thing you see with your final moments of life is Chrysalis, still standing above your form, and the last thing you hear is her maniacal laugh bubbling up from within.

Today is April 1st, 2018. Your eyes slowly work themselves open, as they do every morning. You turn your head slightly to the left to glance at your alarm clock. 

7:57 A.M.

Your alarm will go off in three minutes. You lazily drag a hand up to your chest and feel for anything out of place. Being content with the fact that you were still very much intact, you throw your comforter off of yourself and slide off the mattress. 

Looking out the bedroom window, you see the sun starting to rise, just as you had. You stand up from the bed, and start getting ready for yet another day of work.
