//------------------------------// // We GOTTA get Disney Quest back! // Story: Equestria Girls go to Disney Quest // by Invinsible //------------------------------// Equestria Girls go to Disney Quest “So…that beanie on your head. What purpose does it serve?” Starlight Glimmer looked up from the sandwich she was eating in the Canterlot High School cafeteria. “Huh?” Twilight Sparkle gestured to their friend Sunset Shimmer. “Well Sunset said that you weren’t wearing clothes before you went through the portal. So, when you, her, and the um, the princess version of me come into our world, the portal magically creates clothes for you. Right?” “Right,” Sunset said, nodding her head. “So, you have enough clothes and the portal makes sure you’re decent. Every article of magically generated clothing serves a purpose. But…what about your beanie?” “You mean this hat?” Starlight asked, removing her beanie and examining it curiously. “She makes a good point. Me and Princess Twilight don’t get hats when we go through the portal. I wonder why you do?” Sunset said, rubbing her chin in thought. Starlight stared at her hat with a mix of confusion and wonder. “I don’t…know…” she hummed. Rainbow Dash looked up from her meal. “Are we really talking about this?” “As much as I enjoy any conversation about fashion, I would have to agree with Rainbow on this one,” Rarity said, taking a sip of her drink and clearing her throat. “I’m afraid I have little experience with magical portals creating hats, and thus cannot offer any explanation as to what makes Starlight’s headgear so special. Besides, there are more important things to talk about. Such as, what are our plans for the upcoming break?” Applejack shrugged. “Ah don’t have anything pressing Ah need to get done at home, so I’m game for anything y’all have got planned fer the March break.” “Uh, girls?” Fluttershy spoke up.“Did anyone else just get a text from Pinkie? She sounds…” “GIRLS!” Pinkie Pie cried as she ran into the cafeteria, her eyes filled with tears, arms waving above her head, screaming as if the school was on fire. “I JUST HEARD THE WORST NEWS!” “Whoa, whoa! Pinkie what’s wrong?” Sunset gasped as Pinkie slammed her hands against the table, pausing to catch her breath. “Pinkie? Are you crying?” Fluttershy asked, her voice dripping with concern. “It’s just the worst!” Pinkie sobbed. “It was SO beautiful, why’d they have to close it?! WHYYYY?!” Fluttershy and Sunset both got up from their seats to offer their friend a hug, but Sunset was closer. “Pinkie, it’s gonna be okay,” Sunset said, wrapping Pinkie up in a hug and rubbing the back of her shoulder. “No, it’s nooooott!” Pinkie wailed, big, fat tears spilling out of her eyes. “Look, just take a deep breath, and tell us what’s wrong Pinkie,” Applejack said gently. “To quote Rarity, of all the worst things that could happen it’s just the WORST…POSSIBLE…THING!” Pinkie cried. “They’re closing Disney Quest!” “NO!” Twilight and Rainbow cried at once, leaping up from their seats. “What? That’s terrible! Oh, Sweetie Belle always loved the place,” Rarity sighed. “Ah, dang it. Apple Bloom loved that place too. We hardly ever get ta go to Disney World as a family too, why’d them business folks have to do something stupid like that,” Applejack groaned. “I think I still have that one toy from Sid’s Create-A-Toy somewhere…” Fluttershy sighed wistfully. “Um, sorry for being the odd one out, but what’s Disney Quest?” Starlight asked. “WHAT?!” Pinkie shouted. She grabbed Starlight by the shoulders and shook her. “Disney Quest is only the coolest, best-est, indoor arcade theme park EVER!” “Easy, Pinkie,” Sunset said as she pried Pinkie’s fingers off the startled Starlight’s shoulders. “From another world, remember? I’ve only heard about Disney World online, myself.” “Disney World?” Starlight asked. Pinkie let out a huge gasp before her head hit the table. Her arms looped around to cover the top of her head, shutting her off from the world. “Okay, you remember that Disney Renaissance movie night marathon we had a little while ago?” Sunset asked. “Oh yeah…” Starlight slowly smiled. “I liked Belle and Mulan. Aladdin was really cool too. Genie kind of reminds me of Discord, except bluer. Funnier too, but uh, don’t tell him I said that.” “Well those are all movies made by the Walt Disney Company,” Sunset explained. Starlight rolled her eyes. “I gathered that much. But what’s Disney World and Disney Quest?” “Well, Walt Disney World is this huge, multi-park, theme park in Florida,” Twilight explained. “It started back in 1971-” “Hold on Twilight, there’s a lot of info to go over,” Sunset interrupted her. “I can show you the stuff I’ve read online later, but basically it’s a huge theme park and the ‘Happiest place on Earth’. The main parks are Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios-” “MGM,” Pinkie mumbled. “…and Animal Kingdom,” Sunset continued. “Plus, two water parks, Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. Each park has its own rides, attractions, shows, restaurants, and characters you can meet.” “Sounds like fun,” Starlight said with a smile. “And I’m guessing Disney Quest is a part of Disney World?” “From what I’ve read, Disney Quest is like an indoor theme park mixed with a video game arcade,” Sunset explained. “Oh. Well we have some video games in Equestria, though they’re not quite as-” Pinkie got back up on her feet. “Sunnny, Sunny,” Pinkie chastised her, interrupting Sunset and Starlight with a shake of her head. “You’re not doing Disney Quest justice! Think about how unique an indoor arcade/theme park is! Can you think of ANY place in the world that’s like Disney Quest?” Applejack pulled out her phone and did a quick search on it. “Well, says here that they’re building some kinda NBA interactive experience...” Pinkie wrinkled her nose in disgust. “They’re not even replacing it with something Disney?! Just some boring, bland, basketball thingy?!” Rainbow frowned. “Hey!” “Well, if you like basketball or NBA, that’s fine, that’s whatever,” Pinkie said, waving her hand in dismissal. “But they could have built their NBA thingy some place else! Like that ESPN world of sports place, they’re already doing sports stuff there! But why do they need to tear something as fun and unique as Disney Quest for that! It’s not fair!” she wailed. She shut her eyes tight, wiping out the last of her tears, and pulled out her phone. Her eyes opened, filled with determination, as she typed furiously into the Google search engine. “I’ve tried emailing the people in charge of Disney World, but haven’t heard anything back yet. So, in the meantime, I’m saving and downloading every picture, video, and Wiki article about Disney Quest. The childhoods of boys and girls everywhere will survive!” She raised a fist dramatically into the air. “SURVIVE!” “If it’s closing soon, can’t you just go there and record stuff for your last visit?” Starlight suggested. “Florida’s a long way from here,” Applejack pointed out. “And dang expensive ta get to. Then of course, there’s the ticket prices for getting in, a hotel room if yer planning on staying fer more than a day…” “Sweetie Belle would be heartbroken if she didn’t get to visit it one more time…” Rarity mused. “If we’ve no better plans for our March break, why don’t we all take a Disney vacation?” Pinkie grinned and grabbed Rarity by her shoulders. “You mean it? Yay! This’ll be the best vacation EVER!” She let go of Rarity and started jumping from joy. “Not only do we get to see Disney World, but we get to introduce Sunset and Starlight to the whole Disney Quest-perience!” Starlight smiled sheepishly. “Well, if it’s as amazing as you say it is, I’m up for giving it a try. Although, if we’re traveling away from the mirror portal, I’ll need to let Princess Twilight know I’ll be gone for a week.” “I’ll need to ask my parents to look after Spike,” Twilight mused to herself. “If we have time after Disney Quest, I’d love to see Animal Kingdom again,” Fluttershy mumbled happily.“Maybe spend some time in Epcot too…” “My parents would approve of Sweetie Belle joining us for this experience. She’d never forgive me otherwise,” Rarity said, tapping away notes into her phone. “Apple Bloom’d wanna come,” Applejack said. “But still, it’ll be dang expensive…” “And I gotta bring Scoots along for this ride!” Rainbow said, hitting the palm of her hand with her fist with a determined grin. “I wanna smash some bad guys, blast some aliens, and ride that sweet Cyberspace coaster with her!” “There will be a lot of stuff to plan,” Sunset said, tapping her chin in thought. “I’ve stayed in a hotel before, but this will be my first time in a Disney hotel. Sweet Celestia, this’ll be my first time on a plane…” “Alright, settle down y’all,” Applejack said, holding her hands up.“That’s eight tickets fer all of us, plus three tickets for our sisters. That means plane tickets, park tickets, hotels – Ah mean, don’t get me wrong, I’d love to spend our March break going ta Disney World and seeing Disney Quest before it closes, but can we afford all that?” The girls quieted down a bit. Twilight and Sunset both typed into their phones, searching for information on what tickets would cost for all of them. As they were doing the calculations in their head, the school’s vice principal approached their cafeteria table. “Good afternoon students,” Vice-Principal Luna greeted them. “I couldn’t help but overhear your discussion. Planning on a Disney vacation over the March break?” Pinkie looked up at her with a smile. “Yeah, but we mostly wanna visit Disney Quest and record as much of it as we can to the point that nostalgia is flooding our brains and we can replay the game intros and the games themselves in our heads over and over, so we can keep the best video game arcade slash theme park ever alive in our hearts forever and ever, because we need to keep the memory of Disney Quest alive, because they’re planning on closing it down to make way for some stupid, boring, dullsville, NBA experience. So, whatcha doing for the March break?” While Twilight, Fluttershy, and Starlight had trouble keeping up with Pinkie’s fast-paced explanation, Luna caught the general idea of it. “They’re closing Disney Quest?” she asked with wide eyes. Pinkie sighed sadly. “In a few months.” “I see.… Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Excuse me….” Luna reached into her pocket and pulled out her phone. She dialed a number and impatiently tapped her foot on the floor as she waited for someone to answer. “Celestia? I’m going to Disney World for the March break. Actually, how many students could we afford to take on a field trip to Disney World?” The girls looked up at her with wide eyes. “Say what?!” Pinkie asked, a grin spreading on her face. “Hold on a minute Celestia,” Luna said, covering the phone with her hand before she turned to the girls. “Disney Quest must be saved, my friends. I know how difficult it can be to get Disney to reopen an old attraction, nay almost impossible. I am putting a lot of hope in the ‘almost’.” Pinkie nodded frantically. “Oh, if they open it up again in a few months or even a few years, I’d be super-duper happy.” “But as the old saying goes, hope for the best but prepare for the worst. If there is nothing we can do to prevent that most wonderous of arcades from closing, we must do everything we can to preserve our memories of Disney Quest. Money is not an issue when it comes to preserving those blissful memories of playing retro and virtual reality games all day long. For Disney-fans, for gamers, for the young, and the young at heart! We MUST keep the magic alive!” “THIS...I...PROMISE!” With that dramatic declaration, the bell for the end of lunch rang and the students hurried to their next classes. Sunset, Pinkie, and their friends were already feeling pumped at the awesome vacation plan they had set in motion.
