//------------------------------// // Chapter 1: The First Meeting // Story: My life with Nightmare Moon // by Dream Writer //------------------------------// The night air was chilly, as usual, but there was something different to the wind. For once it wasn't the wind, or lack of warmth that made me shiver. I couldn't quite put my hoof on it, but something was going to happen, something that would change my life forever. The next morning, well if you could call it a morning, it was only a few shades lighter than the night, my generation has never seen the sun, never felt the suns warmth on our fur coats or felt a hot summer breeze through our manes that I had read about from past generations. My mother had often told me stories of Equestria when there was two princesses. One whom had ruled in the day, and one whom had controlled the night. Everypony thought that everything was well balanced, but my parents had felt a certain...tension building in the Canterlot castle (my parents were two of many servants who had worked within the castle walls). One day, the princess of the night, formally known as Princess Luna had snapped. She was jealous of how all the other ponies had played when her sister's beloved sun was out, and always slept when her beautiful moon was out. My mother saw it, her transformation into the cruel Nightmare Moon. She hid and watched the two sisters, she was hoping, and praying that Princess Celestia would somehow defeat Nightmare Moon. Her prayers were just about answered when Nightmare Moon had found an opening and reflected her dear sisters own spell, banishing dear Princess Celestia to the center of the sun, and never to return. Anyways, as I was saying before I had distracted myself, the next morning was just like any other, despite what I had felt the night before. I had woken to my cat rubbing and meowing at me, and went through my morning routine. I showered, getting my dark indigo coat nice and clean and washed my dark and light blue mane and tail. I made sure to get in my wings and wash behind my ears, like mother would always tell me. I was sure to brush and floss, and combed through my wet mane, putting the long bottom layers into the pigtails I always wore them in. I also put a matching bead near the end of my tail, and commenced to clear the piercings in my ears and lips. I had one big red earring at the base of each ear, and two smaller orange ones above each other. Along with those I had two rings in my lips, known as snake bites, they were my first and favorite piercings, although mother and father were very angry when they saw what I had done. I left my home and stretched my wings a little, it was still cold, but what world with no sun isn't cold? I sighed and went on my way to do my weekly grocery shopping when I had bumped into a tall dark figure. I landed on the ground with a “THUD!” and rubbed my head in pain. “Ouch...” I mumbled as I slowly looked up to see who, or what I had bumped into. And with my luck, it had to be the worst who, or what a little pony like me could bump into. Oh boy did I have tough luck or what? Those cold as ice eyes glaring down at me, sent shivers down my spine. I couldn't tell if they were good or bad, from the chilly wind or her icy stare. Her mane that looked like it was made of stars was blowing in the wind, and her scowl, oh that scowl made me feel even more worthless than a piece of last years trash. Although, I couldn't help but wonder if she would look as threatening without the armor she had on. I couldn't help but think that she'd look stunning either way. And trust me, I couldn't believe that I had though such a thing. She kept that scowl on her face as she glared impatiently at me, as if she were waiting for something. Then it dawned on me, slower than it should have I admit, but I quickly jumped to my hoof and bowed my head down in front of the Royal Alicorn “My sincerest apologies your Highness...!” I apologized and glanced up at her, with the scowl glued to her face. It made me wonder if she had a muscle in her face that made her face stay in that permanent scowl. It made me so nervous that I started to shake ever so slightly, still bowing and awaiting approval to raise my head. She nodded at me, not seeming to soften her scowl and I slowly stood into a normal standing position. I was still nervous and chewed on my lip ring, waiting for some form of punishment for being so naive and reckless to bump into the ruler of all Equestria. “Follow me.” She said harshly and continued walking, which was the opposite direction of where I was going. I quietly sighed to myself thinking; The groceries will have to wait I suppose. And I followed the beautifully frightening Princess to wherever she was planning on taking me. ________________________________________________________________________________________________ To my surprise she was leading me to Canterlot Castle. I had to fly to get up there, and keeping up with her wasn't the easiest thing for me to do, but I managed, barely. I was so exhausted by the time we had reached the entrance I thought for sure she know what a weak flier I was and was using that for my punishment. But was I wrong, or was I the opposite of right. My true punishment was yet to come. Not only did the halls remind me of my childhood when I would trot around humming and singing loudly while mother and father worked, I also remembered my first glimpse of what the sun use to look like. While I was busy remembering my fillyhood I didn't even notice the room she had lead me into. She had shut the door and I could have sworn I saw a smirk replace her permanent scowl.
