//------------------------------// // Return to Her Tower // Story: Terror in Equestria 10: The Return of Tirek // by StormLuna //------------------------------// While Blazing Glory was down mingling with the subjects of what was now Unicornia, Colgate headed back towards Marentreal, towards her tower, looking forward to sleeping in her own bed again. As she was heading home, she couldn't help but be happy to have not only been partly responsible for placing a new pony in power in what was White Magick's realm, but to also restore the name that White Magick abandoned so long ago, Unicornia. When her tower was visible in the distance, Colgate sped up her rate of speed before landing by the base, where she was immediately greeted by her two generals. Dark Night, the one she was closer with, rushed to her and immediately embraced her. Colgate was no fan of physical touch so she broke the embrace rather quickly and asked, "Dark Night, what is up with the hug?" Dark Night replied, "Well I was just worried about you, I was worried that something would happen out there." Lightning Storm added, "Places like that are quite dangerous." Colgate gave the two a slight glare and replied, "You should know that there isn't a single danger out there that I couldn't handle." She pointed her hoof towards the tower and continued, "Follow me, I have some interesting news, news that could benefit us greatly." The two nodded and followed Colgate towards the tower. Once they arrived they headed to the one place where they were guaranteed to not be walked in on by any of the regular soldiers. They headed to the very back room where Colgate closed the door and began, "Alright generals, I'm certain you are wondering why I have brought the two of you here." Lightning Storm replied, "Actually yes, I am." Colgate began, "Well as you know, I along with White Magick and Twilight headed out to Dream Valley to acquire an artifact that would aid us tremendously in defeating Tirac and his Rainbow of Darkness." Colgate stood there silent for a moment before realizing something. She realized that she had never given White Magick the Rainbow of Light so she grabbed it out of her saddlebag, levitated it around her neck and proudly continued, "And before you ask, yes we found it! We found the Rainbow of Light!" The two got smiles on their faces as they knew that this gave Coastal Equestria a distinct advantage over their neighbors to the west. Dark Night asked, "So what are you going to do if White Magick wants it?" Colgate replied, "About White Magick, he is no longer the leader of his realm. His subjects got fed up with him loving Twilight so he abdicated and a general of theirs has taken over as their steward." She got a huge smile on her face and continued, "He has went to live with Twilight so if he wants it, there will be a hefty price to pay, and I mean a very hefty price!" Both of them knew exactly what Colgate wanted causing Dark Night to ask, "So what territory would you want to annex?" Colgate knew that there was plenty more in the population to be had further down the east coast and the areas that spread a couple hundred miles inland. She replied, "I want the whole east coast along with the lands that spread inland a couple hundred miles, basically a good portion of the population of Equestria." Dark Night had a feeling that the relic may only respond to the energy of certain ponies and given Colgate's nature, that it may not work for her. He asked, "I know you have this thing but what if it won't work for you? What if you don't have the right energies to use it?" At first the Colgate was irritated by the question but then realized that her general could be right. She replied, "You know, it may not work for me." She then remembered how full of love that one certain pony from her past was and continued, "But, I have a feeling that I may be able to bring the one pony back to us who would be able to use it. I just have to do a ton of studying and likely write my own magic." The two gave Colgate a curious look as at first they had no clue what she was talking about but then something crossed his mind. He asked, "Are you going to try and write a spell to resurrect Queen Ruby Heart?" Colgate gave him a smile and replied, "Yes but I have a ton of research to do and I also need room for the Dream Valley collection that I cast the duplication spell on. I have a feeling I may be able to find information on what I need in there." Both of them knew that there was no more space in the archives and that space would be needed. Lightning Storm asked, "What are you going to do, you have no space." Colgate stood there in thought before replying, "You know what, there isn't anything really necessary of keeping underground in Twilight's old collection or the Canterlot collection. I can simply relocate that upstairs to where the main library should be, create a special lock for it and then place the Dream Valley collection down here. Such ancient information must not be kept above ground in the event something happened to the main part of the tower." Colgate headed back up to the first section of the archives and began grabbing books in her aura to take them upstairs. She glared at the two and continued, "Could you two help me?" They both nodded in unison and began to help Colgate move the books. While she really didn't want to store any materials outside of what would amount to leisure reading above ground, she knew that for right now, she had no choice. She figured once Tirac and Tirek were defeated, that she would have all the time in the world to put everything underground. After three hours of relocating the books and re-shelving them, Colgate decided to go downstairs and move each section of books up one room before using the book restoration spell to put the Dream Valley collection on the shelves. She flew up to the top shelf and then inspected everything to make sure that nothing was missing. Once she discovered that all was good, she gave her generals a smile and said, "Thanks generals, I couldn't have got this done today without your help." In unison they replied, "You're welcome Colgate." Colgate's stomach began to rumble and given that it was getting late she continued, "What do you say we go up and get something to eat. After the day we've had, I think we could use it." The two nodded and they headed upstairs. Colgate was happy that not only had she discovered that she did not surrender the Rainbow of Light to who she no longer viewed as an ally but that she also was able to get room cleared for the Dream Valley collection and there was one more thing she would need to do to act on what she hoped could be done, study and study hard before writing her own magic, incredibly difficult magic.
