Gladash

Just Why?

“Thanks Rainbows,” said a dripping wet and towel-covered Zephyr. “But I think surfing isn’t my thing.”

Rainbow couldn’t help but look smug. “Too tough for you?”

Zephyr attempted to straighten himself. “What are you kid-,” a particularly strong breeze blew past and caused him to hunch over and shiver uncontrollably. “I’ll just go.”

He moved past Rainbow with small trembling steps. His head was down and he felt like the biggest loser in the world. Largely because he was, but ignorance is bliss.

“Hey, Zephyr,” Rainbow called after him.

He immediately perked up and turned to look at her with a big smile plastered on his face. He knew she couldn’t resist him.

She had an arm around his board and looked a bit annoyed. “You just gonna leave Gladys here?”

He went from happy to unamused in the blink of an eye. “Sure, don’t need it.” And even if he did, it was covered in sand and he really didn’t want to touch it.

Rainbow growled. “Well if you’re just going to abandon her then I’ll just take her for myself!”

Zephyr was a bit taken aback by the intensity of her response, but he wasn’t going to question it. He was freezing his ass off and was completely humiliated. He didn’t have time to question anything.

“Sure, whatever, Rainbows.”

And he walked off to find Flutters so she could drive him home. Who needed a license when you had such a nice sister. It was only when he got to the car after being told to wait there ‘til Flutters was done when he realized something important.

He could’ve gotten a kiss from Rainbow for that board!

He smacked his head against the car and the alarm blared. He swore he heard the sound of his sister screaming, but probably not. She wasn’t much of a screamer.

Rainbow took Gladys over to the showers and set the board against the wall. The showers were essentially just one long wall with some nozzles sticking out. It’d have to do until Rainbow could give Gladys the proper attention

“I’m sorry that he’s such a jerk, Gladys,” she said. “Guy like that has no idea how special you are.”

She started up the shower and let the water do its thing. She took the sponge she grabbed earlier and started to gently scrub the sand from the abused board.

“Now me,” she said. “I’d treat you right. I know how to appreciate something as beautiful as you.”

Thank you.

Rainbow took a step back. “What the…”

She looked around, but there was no one nearby. Did the board actually talk? Rainbow laughed a bit. Did she really just think that? The magic weirdness they’d been dealing with was starting to mess with her apparently.

Why are you laughing?

Rainbow’s eyes widened and her mouth fell open. Once was just her mind playing tricks on her, twice was something else. She shook her head and narrowed her eyes.

It was pretty damn obvious what was going on.

“Dammit A.J.,” she shouted. “Come out now! This is stupid!”

Who’s A.J.?And why do you think I’m stupid? I thought you were better.

“Gladys” sounded hurt.

“I didn’t mean that you were stupid,” Rainbow quickly said. “You’re awesome!”

And now she was talking to the thing. She was losing her mind.

Thank you so much. Since that strange flash hit me I’ve felt so scared and alone. The other one was so mean. I’m glad someone likes me.

A flash of light? So it was magic. The magic must have made her come to life. Twilight and A.J. did say something about plants coming to life.
“Well of course I like you,” said Rainbow. She started to scrub Gladys again.

Gladys let out a soft moan. That feels so good.

Rainbow blushed. This was getting a bit weird. Weirder at any rate.

And they talked for a bit as Rainbow cleaned Gladys. Apparently, Gladys had a bit of a wild streak to her. She was definitely the kind of board who loved catching the best waves. It was just messed up how she ended up with Zephyr.

Rainbow smiled. But now she was with her. That amazing board would never be hurt again.

I really like you.Could we maybe go somewhere together?

“W-what?” Did Gladys just ask her out?

I’ve never met anyone like you. I know we are too different to do the same things, but I’d love to just be with you and talk.

“Sure!” Rainbow blurted. It just slipped out, but something about it felt right. “I-I mean, yeah we can do something.” Play it cool, Dash. “I’m not sure I can take you to places where others are. They wouldn’t understand. But I can take you to my place and we could hang out.”

Thank you. You’re really special and the thought of more time with you fills me with so much joy.

Rainbow had finished washing Gladys and gave her a once over. She was gorgeous. The water that lingered glistened in the sun. She looked so… sexy if Rainbow was being honest.

Rainbow carefully picked Gladys up. “I’ll take you to my car so I can dry you off and then we’ll head to my place. You’re gonna love it.”

And so the two went off to a potentially bright future together.

Behind the shower wall was Sunset Shimmer with a hand over her mouth and one on the wall for balance. After a few minutes, hopefully enough time for Rainbow to be out of earshot, she uncovered her mouth and burst out laughing.

She needed both of her hands on the wall to keep her steady. This had been too great.

“Uh, Sunset,” she heard Applejack say from behind her. “What’re ya’ll doing back here? And why’re you laughing?”

Sunset turned around and leaned back against the wall. She took a moment to calm down and catch her breath. She wiped a tear from her eye.

She met Applejack’s gaze and with the biggest grin ever she said:

“Securing my place in Hell.”
