Spike's Letter

Dear Princess Celestia...

Dear Princess Celestia,

Wow, it’s been a long time hasn’t it? I hope this actually goes through, being that I haven't done this in over a hundred years. Since I’ve woken up, I haven’t moved much from my cave. I don’t think I’m ready yet.

I have so much to ask! How’s the castle? How’s Luna? Gosh I can’t wait to see the moon tonight when I look outside. I wonder if it’s changed much since I last saw it. Probably not now that I think about it, unless some unlucky pony was banished again! I’m joking, that wouldn’t happen unless someone stole your cake.

You know? It’s weird. I’ve grown a lot since I’ve been asleep, but not like a lot a lot. Like I think if I stood next to a pony I’d probably only be like a few heads taller. My wings are a lot bigger though! Sort of like how big Twilight’s alicorn wings were.

Yeah… Twilight. I’ve already heard the news. When I woke up I was greeted to a treasure chest about the size of a pony. I can’t lie, I started to drool thinking it was full of delicious gems! But when I opened it, I found something a lot more personal. Something I don’t think I could ever trade for a bunch of silly gems.

The chest was filled with stuff from all my, no, our old friends. And a few gems as well. The first thing I noticed was a rainbow package. When I opened it there was a ‘Daring Do’ book I haven’t seen before. And a small letter fell out of it too.

“Hey there little buddy! Probably won’t be so little when ya read this though. I wanted to give ya this pin so you could have an awesome pony to read about when ya get bored. Just remember she isn’t as awesome as yours truly! Cya bud.”

I haven’t read it yet, saving that for tonight. The next package I opened was a yellow one with a pink ribbon. It had a small plush butterfly inside, one that looked just like her cutie mark, and a letter along side it.

“Hey Spike, I hope you like this. I spent the past few days trying to think of what I could give to you, and thought that this would be nice. I just want to say thank you for being the cutest little dragon friend ever.”

I don’t think you can be too old to have plushies right? Right. Next one I opened, well more like exploded in my face, was a very glittery pink package. Besides confetti, there was a cookbook inside. It was mostly filled with cakes and pies and other baked things, but it was all mouth-written. And I’m not too surprised to see it has a few stains on it. There was a letter poking out of the book, and when I flipped to the page it was a recipe on a triple layer emerald cake. My favorite!

“Heya Spikey! I bet you’re gonna be super hungry when you wake up, so I left you my personal cookbook I’ve been working on since I started baking! I would have left you food too, but I’m pretty sure it would’ve gone bad by then. So make sure to make yourself something good from this book as soon as you can, got that? Pinkie Promise!”

She knew be pretty well, didn’t she? My mouth is watering thinking about it now! Anyways, the next one I opened was an orange package. I hope you don’t mind a weird change of wardrobe when I visit soon, because I can’t go without this. A purple and green trimmed stetson! It fits pretty well too! I found her letter snug inside the hat after trying it on.

“Howdy Spike! I hope ya like this, I found it durin’ my last trip to Manehatten with Apple Bloom and knew you’d get a kick out of it. I wanted to say thanks for all the times you helped ‘round here at the farm, you’re a great little helper. She was tellin’ me how she’s gonna miss you. Think she might be smitten with ya! Well, y’all have a good rest. See ya, dragon cowboy.”

Now, the next one I opened took me a moment to do so. It was a beautiful white that shined in the dim cave. Th was wrapped with a purple ribbon and had three diamonds painted on it. I took care not to rip it when I opened it. Now, let me tell you, if you’ve ever wanted the most comfy and perfect scarf in the world, this would be it. It was a long purple scarf with her cutie mark stitched in at both ends. The letter was sealed with her own personal seal, whihc was in the shape of her cutie mark of course.

“Hello, darling! I hope you’ve had a wonderful sleep. If only I could have as much beauty sleep as you’re getting right now. I’ve spent the past few days working on this scarf, and infused it with weather-proofing magic and fire-resistance magic. As to make sure it lasts as long as possible. Just remember, no matter how big you get, you’ll always be my little Spikey-Wikey! Ta ta!”

I’m going to apologise ahead of time if this comes drenched, I sorta can’t help myself at the moment. I thought I was mentally prepared for this, but who would be? Now at this point I was already starting to flood my cave, figuratively of course, when I opened the last package. It was probably the smallest one, but that didn’t mean anything. It was a framed picture of all of us in front of Twilight’s old library before it was destroyed by Tirek. I was so small, sitting on Twilight’s back waving at the camera, smiling as wide as I could. It was the first picture we all took together. I found the last letter pinned behind the frame and the stand that held it up.

“Hey Spike! I can’t believe all the adventures we’ve had together. All the time we spent with each other. How many friends we’ve made together. You were the best little dragon ever. My number one assistant. Practically my little brother. And you’ve done so much for me, I don’t know how I could ever have repaid you. I know this is going to be hard, and I don’t want you doing anything dumb after you hear this okay? But after doing a lot of research with Celestia, I’ve come to find out that even though I’m an alicorn, I’m not immortal. But that doesn’t mean it’s all bad. I’m happy with the life I had. And it wouldn’t have been the same without you. Thank you so much, my number one assistant. I love you.

PS: Remember our promise.

Give me a few days, and I’ll be sure to make my way to the castle. Don’t be shocked if you’ll be the one looking up at me!

Your faithful dragon,
Spike

PS: Despite how I might look when I get there, just know that I’m happy. It might take some time, but a dragon never breaks his promise.
