Episode 30: The Best Night Ever

It had been only two weeks since the Nightmare Forces were destroyed. Burst Stream let out a happy yawn as he woke up. As soon as he was out of bed, Burst Stream walked over to his calendar. A small smile crept onto his face. "Today's the day. But first..." Burst turned his phone on, and dialed up his friends. "Hey guys. Today's the day. And I think it's time we go over our plans for the Grand Gala. Yes there is a chance they'll ban us from ever going again. No. I don't regret this plan. I've had plenty of other bad ideas that turned out great in the end. 'Kay. Bye." Burst hung up, and smiled as he looked out his window. "And so it begins. But I'd better get some breakfast first."

A few hours later
The Elements of Heroism were all assembled at Burst's house. In front of them was a sheet of paper containing their plans for the Grand Gala. "Okay boys. We've been planning this off-screen for the whole season. Tonight, we act upon it. And who knows? We might just turn that stuffy gathering into a REAL party by the time we're done."

"Isn't there also a chance we might get banned from Castalot for life?" Ace asked.

Burst nodded. "Yup. And I don't care. We just saved all of Unity. I think we can afford to have one wild party before whatever new villain shows up next time. Figured tonight would be the best night. So. Any of you care to back out of the plan?"

"You kidding? We nearly died just a couple weeks ago." Inferno said with a smile. "Getting banned from some lame snooze-fest of a party pales in comparison. Let's rock this next stage!"

Burst smiled. "It's official. That'll be your catchphrase. Now then, I believe we should get ready for tonight. Good thing none of us planned on dressing up too nice. I'll be seeing you all in a couple more hours." As soon as the guys got up to leave, they noticed a limo had been sent for Twilight and the Main 6. "Well. Looks like we'll be traveling in style." And with that, the Elements of Heroism went their separate ways to prepare for the coming gala. Burst headed to his closet, and pulled out his white coat. However, he pulled another garment out from his closet. "Was wondering if I'd have a good reason to wear this. Tonight's the night. Hope Celestia likes it."

Sure enough, the sun began to set. And the Elements of Heroism and the Main 6 stood by the limo sent for them. However, while the Main 6 were in their gala dresses, the guys were sticking with what consisted of their casual clothes. Namely because none of them wanted to blow money on suits, and the fact they had kept their attendance a surprise for the girls. "Sorry to keep you waiting guys." Burst greeted as he approached the group. His gala outfit consisted of a platinum dress shirt as opposed to his usually shirtless appearance.

"And to think you were all busted up a couple of weeks ago." Steel said with a chuckle. "Way to clean up Burst." The group boarded their transport, and were driven off towards Castalot. "So Dash, you got any plans for tonight?"

Rainbow Dash grinned. "You bet I do! I'm gonna hang with the Wonderbolts tonight! This is the perfect chance to make an impression on them! Then I'm one step closer to joining them!"

"Well, since we're disclosing our plans, I had planned on meeting Prince Blueblood." Rarity chimed. "However, I have taken it upon myself to be more cautious. I certainly don't want a repeat of Night Terror tricking me."

Fluttershy shuddered at the memory. "Well, I plan on seeing all the animals that live at the gardens. There's so many rare ones there! Oh, I just can't wait to meet them!"

"Ah was hopin' fer a chance to sell some treats." Applejack said with a shrug. "It'll work wonders for Sweet Apple Acres with the exposure! An' Ah'll be able to net us some extra bits."

Twilight smiled at hearing her friends plans. "I was hoping to talk with Princess Celestia. It's only been a couple of weeks since the final battle against the Nightmare Forces. Speaking of..." Twilight then turned her attention to Burst and the guys. "What do you all have planned for tonight? There's got to be something you all have planned to celebrate your victory, right?"

The guys looked to each other, and smiled. "Secret." They all replied in unison. Twilight pouted at hearing this. Sure enough, the group arrived at Castalot right at the gate to the gala. Both sets of elements stepped out of their car, and presented their tickets to the guards to be let in. They were soon greeted with a friendly face.

"Welcome to the gala." Princess Celestia greeted. "It's wonderful to see you all again."

Burst smiled and winked at Celestia. "Pleasure to see you again sunshine. So how're things looking for you tonight?"

"Nothing of too much excitement going on at the moment." Celestia said with a giggle before looking to Twilight. "And it's always a pleasure to see you my faithful student."

Twilight beamed at hearing this. "You too princess. There's so much I want to talk about with you!"

"In that case, I'd like to have you be by my side the entire night." Celestia said with a smile as she noticed Twilight zip right over to her. "I hope all of you enjoy yourselves tonight." It was then that both sets of elements split up. Applejack had set up her treat stand. Rarity met Blueblood, much to her surprise, but was being tailed by Inferno. Ace and Ice joined Steel to set up their surprise. Making sure to keep watch for anyone who decided to go poking around.

Burst Stream walked over to the punch bowl, and served himself a glass. He then caught Tyrannus Rex heading with Fluttershy to the gardens. Burst smiled, and raised his glass. "Go get her big guy."

It was taking everything within Tyrannus to try and keep a cool head as he watched Fluttershy chase after a meadow lark. She was one of the first to be sorry for being scared of me. Tyrannus thought to himself. Not to mention she even offered her home as a place to for me to stay. She's so shy, but I can tell she's growing to like me. Tyrannus smiled as he recalled the time Fluttershy had curled up against him. She had looked so peaceful sleeping. Honestly, I feel the same towards her. However, Tyrannus soon noticed something was up. "Fluttershy? Is something wrong?"

"Oh, it's nothing Ty." Fluttershy said with a sigh. "I want all the creatures here to know that I want to be their friend. But each time I get close, they all scurry away. I don't understand."

Tyrannus put a hand on Fluttershy's shoulder, and gave her a comforting smile. "Maybe it's because they're scared of you?"

"But why would they be afraid of me?" Fluttershy asked. "I'm so good with animals that most flock to me."

Tyrannus took a seat on the ground. "Because you're someone they've never seen before. You're bigger than they are, and chances are that they're not used to seeing new people try and get close to them." Tyrannus then looked into Fluttershy's eyes. His yellow eyes peering right into her deep blue. "Actually, they kind of remind me of how you acted when you first saw me."

"Oh..." Fluttershy said meekly as she sat down next to Tyrannus. "I never thought of it like that way. But I learned that you weren't so scary after I got close to you. How do I do that for them?"

Tyrannus smiled. "Because I let you come to me. Sometimes, you just need the silence to speak for you. Watch." Tyrannus remained where he was. A few minutes later, the same meadow lark Fluttershy had been chasing landed on Tyrannus's shoulder. "You see? If they won't let you come to them, let them come to you." True to his words, the bird flew over to Fluttershy next. Chirping happily. Sure enough, more animals came out of hiding towards the couple.

"Tonight sure is beautiful." Fluttershy said with a smile as she looked up at the night sky while petting some of the animals that were crowding around her.

Tyrannus blushed. "...Just like you..." Fluttershy's eyes went wide at hearing this as she looked in Tyrannus's direction. Tyrannus gulped. "I-I mean-!" He was surprised as Fluttershy put a finger to his lips.

"I-I like you too Ty." Fluttershy said nervously as she began to blush. "You're so nice, and very gentle. A-And you also make me feel safe. Especially when I see you fighting to protect me and my friends. Now that the fighting is done, well...I was wondering, are you going to leave? I hate to see you lonely, and you seem so happy in Unityville with me. S-So if it's alright with you...would you stay with me?"

Tyrannus smiled lovingly at Fluttershy. "After staying with you, why would I ever want to leave?" He then held one of Fluttershy's hands. "I'd tolerate any pain to keep you safe."

Fluttershy gasped at hearing this, and craned her neck as she planted a kiss right on Tyrannus's lips. No words were said, but the silence spoke volumes.

Meanwhile, Inferno was tailing Rarity and Blueblood. Rarity's not swooning over him. Glad to see that little ordeal with Night Terror taught her a lesson. Still... Inferno narrowed his eyes as he turned his gaze to Blueblood. I'll never forgive that guy if he treats her bad. A girl like Rarity...deserves someone who treasures her. Inferno noticed the two come upon a rose. Which Blueblood snatched for himself right in front of Rarity's eyes. Just keep giving me a reason buddy. Inferno thought with a frown.

Back inside, Burst went over to Pinkie Pie. The party planner busy setting up her party equipment. "Hey Pinkie? You got a minute?"

"Uh huh!" Pinkie said with an excited nod. "What'cha need Burst?"

"Well, there's a little song me and the guys wanna perform to kick this party up a notch." Burst said with a smile. He then whispered the song into Pinkie's ear. "Think you can make it happen?"

Pinkie shook her head excitedly. "Yep! Just give me the signal!" And with that, Pinkie zipped right back to preparing her party equipment. At the same time, Steel watched Rainbow Dash manage to save one of the Wonderbolts' pies from falling to the floor. However, things didn't go quite as planned from there. Namely because the Wonderbolts got mobbed by guests eager to strike up a conversation.

"Time to pull a little evac." Steel said to himself as he tapped Rainbow Dash on the shoulder, and motioned to the resfreshments area. "Glad we made it out of that in one piece, huh?"

Rainbow Dash sighed. "Yeah. I was hoping to hang out with the Wonderbolts, but I got completely drowned out by the crowd back there." She then looked at Steel with a defeated smile. "Heh. I guess that's what I get for aiming too high."

"Actually, it's just because of lousy circumstance." Steel replied as he took a swig of punch. "Honestly? I think it's good that you got big goals. Either dream big, or don't dream at all. Look at me. No one every thought the captain of the strongest guard division would be so young. There were lots of people who said I aimed to high, or that I was too young. But if I spend time doing nothing but listen to the people who don't believe in me, how can I ever believe in myself? That's part of why I love you Rainbow Dash. I see myself in you."

Rainbow Dash chuckled. "Yeah. Thanks Stee-wait. Did...did you just say love?!"

"Sure did." Steel said with a smile. "I thought it was obvious with our little game of competitive affection. I stole a kiss from you, then you stole one from me. I'd say we're tied."

Rainbow Dash smirked as she scooted over to Steel. "So...what would I need to do for a tie-breaker? Marry you right here and now?"

"I've got no doubts you'd be an awesome bride." Steel said with a chuckle. "But isn't this something you want to last?"

Rainbow Dash giggled. "Only because you can keep up with me soldier-boy." And with that, the two shared a kiss. "So does this mean that you surrender?"

"Only to you." Steel said with a smile. "And don't worry. Things won't be dull for too long." Steel looked over in Burst's direction. "We've got a little surprise planned."

Burst decided to step outside for some fresh air, and noticed Applejack sulking at her stand. "Hey there Aj. What's up? You look pretty down."

"Nothin' much." Applejack said with a sigh. "Just sitting here in the background. With none of these snobs willing to even try a free sample."

Burst shrugged. "Their loss. These sticks in the mud wouldn't know tasty food if it punched them in their taste buds." Burst dropped a few bits into Applejack's bucket, and scarfed down an apple fritter. "I should know. Castalot's my hometown. Try to make your stand look more high-class. Trust me. They'll eat it up. In fact..." A few minutes later, thanks to a tablecloth and some handy markers, Applejack's stand looked like it was completely overhauled. Sure enough, plenty of guests began to line up. Burst then checked his phone, and smiled. "It's almost time..." And with that, Burst headed back inside.

Meanwhile, Inferno had continued tailing Rarity and Blueblood. He had been keeping track of all the various less-than-decent forms of treatment. But what tore it for him was when Blueblood wanted Rarity to use part of her dress as a mat to cross over some mud. That's it. I know what I'm gonna do to make this gala memorable. Inferno calmly walked up behind Blueblood, and tapped him on the shoulder. "Excuse me sir. But could I interest you in some punch?"

"Sure you can." Blueblood said with a smug grin.

Inferno smiled. "Fitting choice of words." And with that, Inferno gave Blueblood a shoryuken to the face! "Hope that was enough for you." Inferno said with a nod as Blueblood landed in the mud out cold! Inferno then looked to Rarity, and scooped her up in his arms. "I don't have a coat to put over the mud. Hope this makes up for that."

"N-No worries darling." Rarity said as she blushed at being carried bridal style. "Thanks for coming to my rescue. Again."

Inferno chuckled. "Hey. Someone's gotta keep a gem like you safe. And I don't see anyone else volunterring to be your hero at the moment." Inferno spread out his wings, and flew over the mud. "Also, punching out that jerk got me in the mood to bust out some moves of a different kind." Inferno set Rarity down, and offered her his hand. "Care to dance, gorgeous?" And with that, the two headed for the ballroom.

Meanwhile, Burst checked his phone. He smiled when he saw the time, and made his way over to Celestia and Twilight. "Excuse me, Princess Celestia?"

"Oh Burst." Celestia said with a smile. "What brings you back here? Tired of the gala already?"

Burst Stream shook his head. "No. I came here because of that thing I told you about. You know, right? About how I said you could thank me?" Burst then blushed. "Would you...like to dance with me?"

Celestia looked to the gala guests, then back to Burst. She smiled. "It would be my pleasure." Twilight was left dumbstruck that Celestia would abandon greeting the guests. Then she recalled how boring a duty it was and decided to follow along. Celestia noticed the guests' confused looks, and looked back to Burst. "It looks like I'll have to thank you once more. For saving me from a perpetually dull night.", she whispered.

"Hey. It's your party, isn't it? What's the point of hosting it if you can't enjoy it?", Burst whispered. "Plus, I still gotta keep my promise to make you smile, don't I?"

Celestia giggled as she and Burst entered the ballroom. "You're certainly doing a phenomenal job." The two were literally the center of the room as they began to dance. Burst then gave Pinkie the signal, and the musicians currently playing were soon replaced by a DJ. Who soon played the song Burst requested Pinkie to put on. "This song. It's very nice." Celestia then noticed all the other guests were focusing on her and Burst. "It looks like we're the center of attention."

"Then let's give them something to talk about." Burst said with a smile as inched a bit closer to Celestia. "They still watching us?"

Celestia giggled. "They sure are. By the way, where's this song from?"

"Oh. It's...from one of my videogames. Kingdom Hearts to be specific." Burst said with a blush. ". . . You probably think that I'm a huge nerd for asking it to be played, huh?"

Celestia pulled Burst closer to her. "Quite the contrary. I think it's nice that you don't hide what you love."

As Burst and Celestia were dancing, Rarity and Inferno were having a conversation of their own. "You know darling? I'm actually having quite the lovely time with you." Rarity said with a sigh. "It's such a shame that you'll be leaving soon." She then blushed. "And to think I entertained the silly fantasy of a romance between us."

"Well, that's the thing. About me leaving? I won't be." Inferno said nervously. "You see, me and my band broke things up. We kinda got sick after feeling so burned out after a couple tours. So it looks like I'll be with you for quite a while." Inferno then blushed. "But. . .that's not entirely why I'm not going back to that life."

Rarity raised a brow in interest. "Really? And what other reason is there darling?"

"Well, I-" Inferno gulped. "I'm looking at a good reason to stay. Maybe. . . we could make that fantasy of yours real?" Inferno asked hopefully. Rarity responded by kissing Inferno right on the lips. Burst noticed the scene and smiled. He also caught Steel Edge making out with Rainbow Dash by the punch. Dark Ice and Arctic Ace were giving commentary due to how the two liked to make their PDA a competition.

"I must admit. This night's taken quite the fun turn for me." Celestia said with a smile.

Burst chuckled. "Night's not over yet Celestia. Sorry to cut this short. But it's time to kick things up. Would you excuse me for a moment?" Burst let go of Celestia, and gathered his friends, and soon stepped onto the stage where the music was playing and took up six microphones. They then proceeded to perform. "Everybody yeah! Rock your body! Everybody! Rock your body right! Backstreet's back! Alright!" As soon as the song was played, all the younger gala guests started to move along with the music. Most of the older guests in utter shock at the fact their refined and dull gathering suddenly got cranked up to a full-blown party. Burst nodded. Satisfied that his plans were carried out just as planned. "Yup. Mission accomplished."

"Is it now?" Celestia asked with a mischievous smile. "If I didn't know better, I'd say you planned this."

Burst smirked. "And what if I did? This the part where I get kicked out and banned from the city?"

"Nope!" Celestia said with a giggle. "This is where I say 'thank you'. This gala's been the most fun since, well, ever! I thought Twilight and her friends would be the ones to liven things up. Of course, I didn't expect to see a live performance. You're just full of surprises, aren't you?"

Burst shrugged. "That's me." He then locked eyes with Celestia. "Thank you. For dancing with me. It means a lot that you actually accepted my request."

"I had the feeling it did." Celestia said with a kind smile as she walked over to Burst. "But something tells me." She then wrapped one of her wings around Burst. "You'd like a little something more."

Burst's face began to turn red "W-What do you mean by that?"

"Did you really think either of us were hiding it?" Celestia asked. "I've noticed the way we both seem to get lost in each other's eyes. That's not something I've had happen in quite a while. I've also never seen one person give so much to me either. I owe a lot of my current happiness to you and your promise."

Burst was in complete awe, and tried to avert his eyes away from Celestia. "W-Well, I just wanted to see your real smile. It's so beautiful. Just like you." Burst's efforts to look away were in vain. "Some part of me just wants to keep making you happy."

"I think I know the perfect way for you to do that." Celestia said with a loving smile as she wrapped her other wing and her arms around Burst. Pulling him into a kiss right on the lips. "There's more waiting for you later." Celestia said with a wink.

Burst was in complete and utter bliss. BEST. NIGHT. EVER.
