Chapter 1

“Today’s going to be a beautiful day, I just know it.” A yellow pegasus said as she walked out of her house and towards the chicken coops arranged in a rectangular position. Fluttershy gently combed her light-pink mane as she handed out the chicken feed to the multitudes of chickens, giving them a warm smile as she walked past. After feeding her chickens, she took a bucket of carrots in her hoof and trotted over to a small doghouse-esque construct.

“Good morning, Angel. Come on out, breakfast is ready.” Fluttershy crooned. A snow-white rabbit yawned and walked out of the bunny house, scratching his rump. Fluttershy handed her beloved rabbit a large carrot, watching with glee as Angel cheerfully devoured his favorite vegetable.

“I’m glad you liked it, Angel.” Fluttershy said, scratching Angel behind the ears (which was his favorite spot!). Fluttershy moved on to visit the rest of her animals, spending the morning feeding them, tending to their other needs, and playing with them. After an hour, she was finally finished with the morning chores. Fluttershy sighed to herself as she walked to her front door, reaching out a hoof to open it. She noticed something in the corner of her eye and turned her head, spotting a basket laid on the far right of her wooden porch.

“A basket? I wonder who put it on my porch...” Fluttershy said, peeking inside. She gasped at the sight of the egg sitting inside the basket with the cloth providing feeble warmth.

“Oh, my goodness! Who brought you here? You poor thing...” Fluttershy exclaimed, carefully picking up the egg in her arms. She found it strange that the egg was abnormally large, but it still needed Fluttershy’s care.

Twilight Sparkle sat on her couch, quietly reading a book to herself. She had just finished reading a chapter when Spike came rushing down the stairs.

“Twilight, you got a- YIPE!!” Spike was cut off when he tripped on a step and tumbled downstairs.

“Sweet Celestia! Spike, are you okay?!” Twilight exclaimed as she rushed over to the little dragon and picked him up.

“You got mail... from Princess Celestia.” Spike said, handing his adoptive sister a scroll with a royal crown emblem embedded on it. Twilight read the note, concern creeping on her face.

“Princess Celestia wants me to visit her castle. Something has been stirring from the Everfree forest and she wants my help in locating the source.” Twilight said. Suddenly, Twilight turned her head to the sound of a faint knock on her crystaline door. She headed for the door, opening it to see Fluttershy standing on Twilight’s porch.

“Oh, Fluttershy. Good morning. Is there something wrong?” Twilight asked.

“There’s nothing wrong, Twilight. I just need a bit of help. I found this egg wrapped up inside a basket that somepony left in my front porch. I thought you’d have a clue who left it there?” Fluttershy replied.

“Oh, Fluttershy, I left the egg on the porch for you. Last night I found the poor thing encased in a log that must have floated down from the Everfree forest. I figured you were the perfect pony to take care of it.” Twilight explained.

“Oh, that’s very thoughtful of you. I’ll be more than happy to care for the little baby.... Um.... Say, I don’t know any bird or reptile that could lay a egg of this size before. I thought you could research what animal laid it.” Fluttershy said. Twilight was already digging through her enormous library until she found a large book the color of mud and wrapped in leather coating. Using her magic, Twilight levitated the brown encyclopedia in the air while trotting back to Fluttershy, sitting on the floor next to her.

“Here, we should be able to find out what animal could lay eggs this size. And then, we should be able to know what we’re dealing with.” Twilight stated. She and Fluttershy began reading through the thousands of texts and excerpts on Equestria’s wildlife.

Many hours have passed, yet Twilight, Fluttershy, and Spike still haven’t found a answer. Twilight found herself dozing off and shook her head, trying to stay awake.

“I don’t understand this at all. My encyclopedia has no information on any animal that lays plus-sized eggs!” Twilight tiredly groaned.

“Maybe because the egg might not belong to a ordinary animal. What if it’s a dragon egg?” Spike suggested.

“Good thinking, but dragons don’t lay eggs this big.” Twilight replied. She scratched her head in deep thought, until another knock on the door ripped her attention from the book.

“I’ll get it, Twi.” Spike said, walking to the door. But the little dragon didn’t get a chance to open the door when Pinkie Pie threw the door open, a wide grin plastered on her face like always.

“Hiya, guys!” Pinkie exclaimed, wrapping Twilight and Fluttershy in a warm embrace. Following close behind, Applejack, Rarity, and Rainbow Dash entered Twilight’s home.

“We’ve been lookin’ for y’all all morning. Figured y’all were still sleeping in bed.” Applejack said.

“I had spent the entire morning getting ready to go shopping with Spikey-Wikey.” Rarity said

“Speaking of, where is Spike?” Rainbow Dash asked. The front door creaked as it slowly closed, revealing a flattened Spike that got plastered to the crystaline construct.

“Ow....” Spke groaned.

“Silly dragon, what are you doing to that door?” Pinkie asked.

“Oh, you know. Hugging the door.” Spike sarcastically remarked before he managed to free himself. Rarity noticed the egg sitting between Fluttershy and Twilight.

“Is that a egg? My goodness, it’s absolutely huge!” Rarity said.

“We’ve spent all morning trying to figure out what animal could’ve laid this egg. But we still haven’t found any useful information.” Fluttershy said.

“Well, Ah reckon it’s some sort of dragon egg.” Applejack observed.

“That’s what I said. But Twilight says the egg is even bigger than a dragon egg.” Spike said.

“Ooh! Ooh! I know, I know! What if it’s... a alien egg? I bet it’s gonna split open and a weird spider thing’s gonna jump on our faces and impregnate us with its babies!” Pinkie exclaimed, earning weird looks from her friends.

“What? It’s a possibility.” Pinkie said. Without warning, the egg began to shake and tremble, cracks forming on its shell.

“Guys, the egg’s hatching!” Rainbow said. The ponies backed up as the egg kept cracking.
