//------------------------------// // Visiting Starlight // Story: Sunburst's Quest for Love // by StormLuna //------------------------------// After buying Starlight a dozen roses Sunburst took off towards the north end of town, where Starlight lived. While the walk wasn't horribly long, it was still longer than he would like and given that temperatures were getting warmer, he had begun to sweat which caused him a bit of concern. He knew though that there was no going back as he had written down the poem and more importantly, spent a fair amount of money on roses for her. It was early in the afternoon when he finally arrived at Starlight's house. He initially thought about going and knocking on her door but then realized that with as close as her and Trixie were, that she may be over at her place so he headed across the street to see if she was there first. He knocked on the door and for a minute there was no answer. He sighed, "Well she must either......" The door opened and he heard a voice ask, "Who is it? Who is it that is disturbing The Awesome and Amazing Moonrise?" Sunburst turned around to see a taller woman, dressed in a dress similar to what Trixie usually wears, only it was darker. He figured that she was likely Trixie's mom so he asked, "Uh, hi. I was wondering if Starlight is here?" Moonrise gave him a scowl and snapped, "Who the hell are you and for your information, Starlight doesn't even live here." Sunburst replied, "Well my name is Sunburst and I know your daughter and Starlight are really close....." Moonrise yelled, "Look, get off my doorstep unless you want me calling the cops." She slammed the door and this was Sunburst's cue to get going. He then realized that perhaps he should have checked Starlight's house so he went back across the street to Starlight's house. Just as he was getting ready to knock on the door he heard a yell, "You bastard ref, he was off-side! That goal shouldn't count!" He could tell that the yell was that of Starlight and wondered not only what she was talking about but whether or not this was a good time. Finally he mustered up the courage to knock on the door. After knocking on the door he heard another yell, "Coming!" The other voice was that of Trixie, which did not surprise him. Before he could think anything about her being there the door opened and Trixie answered, "Hello?" She then saw who it was and asked, "Oh, it's you. What do you want?" Sunburst replied, "Well I was kind of hoping I could talk to Starlight for a few minutes." They heard Starlight cheering over the scoring of a goal and they had different thoughts. Sunburst thought that maybe she would be in a better mood but Trixie knew that tearing her away from the game would be a mistake. She rolled her eyes and sighed, "Look, disturbing Starlight while hockey is on is a serious mistake and even The Great and Powerful Trixie knows not to disturb her when hockey is on!" Sunburst figured that maybe if he talked to her in the living room things would be alright, that she could still watch her game and he would get to talk to her. He asked, "Could I come in and talk to her?" Trixie knew that allowing Sunburst into the house would be a serious mistake. She sighed, "No, you can't come in. Trixie shall go and see if she can tear Starlight away from her game to talk to you." Sunburst sighed in frustration as Trixie headed back to the front room. Starlight was in a much better mood given that her team had retaken the lead. When she saw Trixie standing there she asked, "What is it Trixie?" Trixie replied, "There is this guy at the door who wants to talk to you." "Yeah, and." She developed a scowl on her face and added, "Tell him to come back later, no one disturbs me when Vanhoover is playing, especially since we don't get many of their games to start with." Without warning, Sunburst went into their house and headed where he heard the talking. When he got in there, Starlight would not be one bit pleased. She saw him standing there and yelled, "What are you doing in our house?" She turned to Trixie and asked, "Did you let him in?" Trixie replied, "No, I guess he just followed me in." The second period of the game ended and it went to intermission so Starlight decided that the time to run off their unwanted visitor had arrived. She scowled at him and said, "What do you want?" He began to say something before she added, "Whatever it is, make it quick, Vanhoover is playing and intermissions don't last forever." Sunburst replied, "Well I just wanted to give you these flowers." He approached Starlight and gave her the roses. She looked up at him and asked, "And for what purpose?" Sunburst replied, "Because I think you're beautiful and I want to get to know you." He saw an irritated look on her face before continuing, "Before you get mad, I want to share a poem with you." Starlight was quickly becoming irritated but decided to placate him and let him read the poem. Sunburst pulled out the paper he had written it down on and read, * If you only knew how beautiful you are to me You'd know I see an angel every time I look at you. I get short of breath my heart first skips a beat. Then speeds up fast. Feeling as if it will pound right out of my chest. You're so beautiful I wish I had more than two pictures. of which I could get comfort and admire That perfect smile which enraptures me through and through I look at them and I say I love you. I miss you so very much. They provide me comfort in those hardest times. When I'm so very lonely and need you by my side. You're so very beautiful to me. If you only knew how much. You're divine to me as a perfect jewel. I just want to hold and kiss you all night long. You're just beautiful through and through. When he finished reading it, Starlight was angry he would show up and read her a sappy poem but decided to hold her anger. She did find one thing a bit interesting though, the poem he read her. She asked, "Seriously Sunburst, you go online to find a poem to read to me? You decide to come to our house, on a game day, just to share it with me?" Sunburst replied, "Well yeah....wait a minute, did you say our house, as in you and Trixie live together?" The intermission of the hockey game was drawing to a close and Starlight wanted to hurry up and get him out of there and figured he should know the truth so hopefully he would leave her alone. She informed, "Yes, Trixie and I live together and we love one another so I would advise you stop hitting on me" she turned towards the TV and finished, "and go before the game starts up again." He said, "Please just give me....." Starlight knew she was going to have to be stern. She didn't want to bring him to tears but at the same time, she wanted to send a clear message. "Sunburst," Starlight began "look, I'm flattered, I really am but you have to understand that there are two things I love in life, Trixie and hockey and speaking of hockey, the game is starting up again so I think it would be best if you left." Trixie added, "The Great and Powerful Trixie thinks the same. Starlight isn't happy right now and you don't want to disturb her while hockey is on. Even Trixie knows that, one bad call and she'll go into a rage." Sunburst began to say something just as the puck was about to drop causing Starlight to add, "Look, I know of a girl who may go with you but for now, just go. Hockey is on and I don't feel like being distracted." Sunburst let out a sigh of defeat and Trixie led him to the exit. He would then increase his pace when he heard another irate yell from Starlight over the bad officiating. When he got outside he asked, "Trixie, Starlight said something about another girl. Do you think she'd talk to me about it later, after the game." Trixie sighed, "She might but if Vanhoover loses, I'd advise you steer clear of her until the next day. She is obsessed over that team. Even Trixie sometimes wonders if they aren't more important than her!" Sunburst nodded and headed back towards home. While he did find Starlight attractive and had a crush on her, he began to realize that a relationship with Starlight would be impossible as they likely had next to nothing in common. He never did care for sports while Starlight would go into a fury over even one bad call. He thought to himself, "She did say something about another girl. Maybe she'll at least want to go to the dance with me."
