//------------------------------// // Date Preparations // Story: Fluttershy's First Date // by StormLuna //------------------------------// Several hours had passed since Colgate saw Fluttershy and the time to close up for the day had arrived. Colgate was wanting to get everything taken care of much quicker than normal, which was very unlike her since she usually liked to stay late and make sure everything was ready for the next day. Her sudden rush to get going brought out some curiosity in Lyra. She asked, "Colgate, what is up with you wanting to get out of here so quickly? You never want to just get out of here so quickly!" Colgate replied, "Remember Lyra, I am taking Fluttershy out for supper......" Lyra interrupted, "You mean you have a date with Fluttershy!" Colgate blushed but did not say anything. In just a few minutes, the two were ready to leave and headed home. Once they got home, Colgate was a bit nervous because she had never been on a date before and had no idea on what she should wear. Given that Lyra had been dating Bon Bon for quite some time, she turned to her younger sister and asked, "Lyra, what should I wear? Should I dress nice or should I simply dress casual?" Lyra couldn't help but giggle over how naïve her elder sister was over the whole situation. She asked, "So is this simply you taking her out and writing off her debt OR do you want to try and win her heart eventually?" Colgate replied, "Well I do hope that maybe someday we could be something special." Lyra again snickered, "I knew it! You have a crush on her, don't you?" Colgate decided to finally just give in and tell her the truth, "Yes Lyra, I do. I think she is sweet and I think she is beautiful so yes, I have a crush!" Lyra giggled, "Oooh, my sister has a crush, my sister has a crush!" Colgate wanted to get past her sister's teasing so she asked, "But how does one dress when she goes out on a date?" Lyra knew that unlike her, her sister really didn't have anything overly nice, let alone dresses and skirts. She replied, "Well sis, just wear whatever your nicest clothes are." Colgate nodded and headed into her closet to find her best clothes. She was looking through and the nicest thing she had was a pair of black slacks and a solid white shirt. She put those on and headed out to the living room and asked, "Well Lyra, how does this look?" What she had on was nothing even close to what she wore on her dates. She sighed, "Seriously, those are the nicest clothes you have?" Colgate replied, "Yes, they are." She threw her hands up in the air and sighed, "When the biggest events you have in your life are dental conventions, you're not going to have anything fancy!" Lyra sighed, "Colgate, if you are hoping to one day win Fluttershy's heart, you can not simply wear business attire." She knew that her sister was roughly the same size as her so she led her into her room, opened her closet and continued, "Now pick something out, something that would be appropriate for a date, not a dental convention!" Colgate began to look through her sister's nicer clothes and was not overly thrilled by what she saw. Lyra pointed some out to her and all she had was either dresses or tight fitting shirts and medium length skirts. Colgate sighed, "Are you sure this won't be appropriate? I hate dresses and skirts and I'm not a fan of tight shirts either!" Lyra sighed, "Well if you don't want to look good for your crush, don't be sad if she decides she doesn't want anything special!" Colgate objected, "But this is how I always dress, I want her to like me for me, not liking me because I'm in your clothes!" Lyra sighed, "Well I guess I can see where you're coming from." She looked at the clock and continued, "Well it is half past five, I think you better get going. You don't want to be late for your first date do you?" Colgate's ears shot up when she heard this. She said, "No, I don't. Well I better get going, I'll see you later." Lyra giggled, "I can't wait to hear about if you kissed her tonight or not!" Colgate blushed and headed out the door. She hoped that everything would go perfectly that night but knew that if things didn't go the way she hoped, that she couldn't let it bother her too much. Once Fluttershy got home she was immediately greeted by Angel, who was giving her a scowl demanding that he be fed. For the first time in her life, Fluttershy had something that she considered more important than making sure Angel was given what he considered a good meal. He began to yank on Fluttershy's tail and this did not sit well with her. She gave him a glare and sighed, "Angel, I can't fix you a fancy meal tonight, I have a date." Angel did not know what she was talking about but continued the same behavior until she finally broke down and fixed him a decent supper. It was not as hearty as what she usually fixed him but given her glares, he knew that he likely wasn't going to get her to give him more. Fluttershy rushed up to her room and began to get dressed. It felt odd to be putting on a skirt considering that the last time she wore one was when she was a filly. Once she was dressed, she looked at herself in the mirror and could only hope that what she was wearing would impress Colgate. Once she was dressed she headed downstairs and sat on her couch waiting for Colgate. Every three minutes she would look at the clock and it seemed like time was dragging by. Even though it was still a quarter till six, she had already begun to get nervous that maybe Colgate didn't want to go out and wouldn't show up. She sighed, "Does she suddenly not want to go, did she change her mind?" She then calmed down and continued, "Calm down Fluttershy, it is still early. Everything is going to be just fine."
