//------------------------------// // Me Without You // Story: Gone In a Flash // by _SunburstAura_ //------------------------------// A wave of shock spread through Twilight’s body when she received those terrible words from none other than her fiance, Flash. The day was a cold one, the kind of day where princesses stayed inside to read. Twilight made sure everything was perfect for the night. She wanted to have a good night, as usual. She sat in her usual chair near the fireplace, making sure that she would be comfortable for her evening read. She loved nothing more that to dig her nose into a romance novel while sipping on some of Applejack’s fresh apple cider that was served in the castle daily during the cold weather. A familiar green and purple dragon scurried down the hallways of the great castle in order to bring Twilight some very important news. Spike was eager to share his exciting discovery. And it was an interesting one. One that was sure to excite Twilight a little at least. After all, he was a book worm too. “Twilight! Twilight, guess what!” Spike yelled, throwing open the doors to Twilight’s room. The startled princess yelped at the sudden noise that had disturbed her reading. Spike, though carrying no important information in his hands, carried it in his head. Twilight looked annoyed by his sudden presence. “Spike!” she scolded. “How many times have I told you not to disturb me in my room while I’m reading?” But Spike paid no attention to Twilight’s light lecture. “Twilight! You’ll never believe what just happened!” Spike’s enthusiastic smile made Twilight antsy to find out what secret he was hiding. “What is it, Spike? Has Trixie created a new spell? Did Rainbow Dash get kicked out of the Wonder Bolts?” Fear overcame Twilight as she pulled Spike close to her frightened face. “Did changelings take over Equestria!?” Spike gave Twilight a reassuring look before spilling the real news. “No, Twilight. But a new stallion moved into Ponyville! And he’s very good looking. He loves books and-” Spike’s sentence was cut off by Twilight’s hoof. She sighed a long and dramatic sigh. “Spike, why would I be interested in that?” Twilight asked. She returned back to her chair and continued to read, not giving the idea that a new citizen moved in another thought for the moment. “B-b-but Twilight! He’s a great guy! I went with Rarity to meet him and-” “Spike,” Twilight began. She looked at him with her calm eyes. Eyes that told him that he wasn’t going to win but in a gentle way. Ones that sparkled in the firelight. Ones that were fit for a princess. “Spike, no matter how hard you try I am going to marry Flash.” She looked down at the shimmering gold band around her hoof. The crystal clear diamond shone bright. It was a symbol of Flash and Twilights undying love for one another. The two of them had discussed the wedding many times before. The details weren’t very planned for the moment. Twilight and Flash had agreed on having a June wedding underneath the stars. Twilight would walk down the isle carrying a bunch of her favorite purple roses while her fiancé, soon to be husband, would wait for her at the end with a big smile on his face. Twilight sat dreaming about her wedding day as Spike rambled on, not hearing a word he said. “Twilight? Twilight, are you listening to me?” Spike sighed when he learned that his best friend was ignoring him as usual. The chances for Spike to get noticed by Twilight was like proposing to Rarity and her saying yes. He turned around and headed out of her room. “Why does Twilight hate me?” O~O Flash always gave his news directly to Twilight because he made a promise to always be honest with her. But today was different. He dreaded giving the news to her. He feared she would be unhappy, and he didn't want that. Flash gritted his teeth at the sound of his armor clanking against the castle floors. Each step he took made him dread seeing Twilight more and more. He had already told the others such as princess Celestia, princess Luna, and princess Cadence. "H-hey Twilight! Listen, I need to tell you something very important... I-" Flash shook his head. "No, that's not the right way I need to approach her..." He continued to think of a good 'format' for his big news until the stressed out guard found himself standing in front of the princess's royal chamber. He took a deep breath in before tapping his hoof on the door slightly. When there was no response, he let out a sigh of relief thinking he still had some time before he told her. "Welcome home, Flashy!" a female voice shouted. Before he knew it, Flash was caught up in a kiss from his excited soon-to-be-bride. Twilight broke the kiss and gave him no time to answer as she scooped him up into one of her famous bear hugs. Flash wheezed and gasped for air. "D-d-darling!" Twilight finally released him. She smiled awkwardly. Her bear hugs were stronger than she usually expected them to be. A slight blush could be seen on Flash's face as he tried his best to smile. "Hehe, sorry about that." Twilight said, twirling her mane around her hoof. "I've really got to stop doing that." Flash chuckled at his fiancé's cuteness. It was something he couldn't help but love. It was one of the very many things about her that he never wanted to change. "So Flash," Twilight said, pulling him inside. He still wasn't used to the fact that he was allowed in Twilight's room. Royal guards weren't allowed in the princesses rooms unless they had very important news like an emergency. Since he and Twilight were engaged, princess Celestia had made an exception. For him, and for her big brother Shining Armor, who was also Flash's captain. On the table in the middle of the room sat a nice, warm, home cooked dinner. Twilight had prepared it for the two for a supposed romantic evening. Flash was both stunned and touched by this. "Babe, I..." "No need to thank me! I know I'm awesome!" Flash laughed at her sudden spunk. That's what made her...well, Twilight. "How do you like our wedding dinner?" Twilight asked. She pulled one of the chairs out from underneath the small table and motioned for the yellow furry guard to sit. Flash did so. But he was slightly confused by all of this. "Wedding dinner?" he asked softly. he certainly didn't want to make Twilight upset. We all know what would happen if he did. "Yeah! You know, seeing how our wedding is in three weeks, I thought it would be nice If I made a our-wedding-is-in-three-weeks dinner for us!" Twilight sat down across from him and smiled wide. Flash bit his lip, not knowing weather or not he should tell her yet. He didn't want to spoil anything. But after a few moments of studying Twilights expression, he decided it would be better if he told her now then later. "Ahem! Um, Twilight?" Flash asked. "Yeah, Flash?" Flash removed his helmet and set it on the table. He had almost forgotten he still had his armor on from scouting. "I have something I need to tell you... I um..." Twilight became to grow nervous. Flash had never hesitated before when it came to news. Was it something bad that had happened? "F-Flash?" All at once, flash abruptly stood up and shoved his chair away. Slamming his hooves onto the table, he said this: "Twilight I'm leaving for a long time and I may never come back!"
