Friendship Quest II: The Stonesaw Mines

Summary

On a journey to warn the nearby town of the evil that threatens the world, out heroes take a shortcut through the Stone Saw mines, where they encounter the damage and devastation wrought by the evils of the cult.

Let's Quest!

You're on the road to Stonesaw Mines, the local dwarven settlement located in and throughout the Sronesaw Mountains. You recall Commander Stormhorn saying that the dwarves enjoy a merry life, farming, mining, smithing, and ferrying people through their tunnels thanks to the dwarve's direct service mine cart lines to Freshport.

But as you near the village entrance, the normally hidden mountain entrance is wide open, and seated right on the threshold as a wounded looking female knight with blood stained bandages.

*She is Sir Awesome (Rainbow Dash) a noble knight from the kingdom of Cloudlaudenum. She greets you with a slightly pained smile as she explains she was called by the dwarves to slay a Great Red Beast that attacked the mines. She tried to fight it but it was more powerful then anything she had ever seen, and she was nearly killed before she got away.

*Using her healing amulet, Magelight heals 7 damage from Sir Awesome. Grateful, she volunteers to lead you through the mines to Freshport. You accept and she joins your group, leading you into the mines.

As you pass through the doorway you enter a round chamber lit by torches. You see food, plates and mugs scattered along the floor and upturned tables as well as many corpses, mutilated bodies and skeletons. You see scorch marks marring the walls and the smell of ash is potent in the air.

*Magelight uses her Wary Eye to investigate the scene. Her Wary Eye detects one of the skeletons starting to shift and rearrange itself into a fully bipedal skeleton creature. It starts lurching towards you.

*Sir Awesome charges at it and punches it right in the sternum. Dealing 5 damage. It smashes apart as she hits it. It doesn't get back up.

Directly ahead of you is a large archway made of stone.

*Sprinkles hops forward merrily through the archway. She sees what looks like some sort of security checkpoint. There's large stone barriers, bars and also some sort of window or counter. It looks like a ticket booth. Beyond the booth, are train tracks and dwarven ghosts wearing mining helmets. Their shimmering, translucent forms enter one of the mine carts and then they kind of whiz down the track into a tunnel.

*Magelight spies a hidden tunnel that the dwarves use to get around security barricades.

*Sprinkles goes first and pops out the other side where mine carts and the tracks are. Magelight, Strudel and Sir Awesome follow suit.

You see a series of levers used to control the tracks. The tracks go down a series of dark tunnels, and several mine carts are locked in place.

*Strudel jumps into a mine cart. Magelight jumps in with her. Sir Awesome joins you.

*Sprinkles happily hops into the middle one.

*Magelight uses her magic to pull the left lever. The cart immediately starts rolling off into the nearest tunnel.

You can see below you, dwarven farms, and other train tracks suspended high above the farms about 20 feet off. You can hear more mine carts than just your own rolling down these tracks. On those tracks you can see another mine cart full of dwarven ghosts. They are talking in dwarven.

*Sprinkles speaks dwarven. She listens carefully to the dwarven ghosts. They are saying "Oh look there's more of the living. Lets make them like us. That is to say dead."

*Sprinkles whistles to get their attention. And three pick axes sail through the air, towards sprinkles. They impact the cart but they don't hit anybody.

*Magelight casts a fireball spell at the ghosts. It strikes one directly in his ghostly chest, setting him on fire, and dealing 10 damage.

*Sir Awesome picks up one of the pick axes lodged in the cart and throws it at one of the ghosts, striking him in the face and dealing 7 damage.

*Sprinkles takes the last Pickaxe, loads it into her Lute which is now a bazooka and fires it directly at the tracks the ghosts are on. It hits and splits the tracks down the middle collapsing and sending the ghosts tumbling down into the Dephs below. They don't come back.

You continue on to the end to the track and the cart slows to a stop, right outside of a large stone archway with a reddish orange glow coming from within. You all get out of the cart and go through the archway.

You enter what appears to be a large smithing room, the walls glow with orange lava visible through thick panels in the walls. You see racks of shining new weapons.

*Strudel picks up a silver short sword. Its heft speaks to her. She keeps it.

*Sir Awesome finds a large golden bastard sword. Its made out of Orichalcum, a magical element used to create evil vanquishing holy weapons. She takes it and puts her own rusted blade on the rack to replace it, sheathing the Magic Sword in her sheath.

The furnaces burn brighter and brighter as you take the weapons. They flare up angrily as a dark form coalesces in the room, its long talons glow white hot, and its a vaguely feline red form looks to be made of compressed fire and enveloped in acrid smoke. Its one of The Arcane Horrors that escaped from the rip caused by the Earth Star being stolen. It narrows its many eyes at you as it prepares to attack.

*Magelight Summons a hail of swords which sail towards the Red Horror and cleave into his hide, dealing 18 damage.

The horror recoils in pain but is even angrier now as it lashes its talons at Sir Awesome slashing her with fire and dealing 11 damage.

*She uses Godless Healing to heal her wounds, regaining 8 health.

*Strudel goes into a Barbarian Rage, doubling her strength. She withdraws her new sword which she names New Friend, and stabs directly at the creature. However its smokey form renders it immune to your blows.

*Sir Awesome takes her sword and leaps up into the air and plants the blade deep in the base of the creature's neck. Black Ichor spills everywhere as you deal a boosted 14 Damage.

Fire consumes the body of the demon and it burns away into ashes. You stand above the ashen remains of the creature, as a light shines down upon the group. Its a mine shaft leading out of the mines and the mountains. Climbing onto the mine shaft lift, you exit the mountain. You see the seaside city of Freshport, and begin to make your way there.
