//------------------------------// // Mane Magic II (Ft. The Great And Powerful Trixie) // Story: The Book Of Friendship // by XombieSlayr //------------------------------// (Trixie nervously sits on a stool while Starlight writes the title for her latest entry. She seems excited about something.) Starlight's Journal: Mane Magic II (Retrying Popularity's spells involving Mane Magic) So, I feel that we judged Popularity's chapter on Mane Magic too harshly, in our entry featuring it. I Don't! Regardless, we clearly have a lot to learn, but Mane Magic is one of the trickiest types of spellwork known to Unicorns! We owe it to ourselves to study it more in depth. If we can better understand how it works, it will benefit all of Equestria! Maybe the whole world! But why do I have to be the guinea pig!? Because the first spell worked perfectly on you! Whose to say that they all won't work just as well? No! I refuse to be apart of anything that could turn my precious mane into a nest of bees or a yak's tail or- If it works, you'll technically be the first Unicorn to experience it. Something Twilight has yet to accomplish... What are we waiting for? Let's get started already! That's the spirit! (Starlight flips to a random page of the chapter and sees a picture that she feels would be a good trial test. She takes a moment to empty her mind, and focus her magic. Strange blue energy swirls around Starlight's horn, in the shape of small wispy butterflies. The room shakes as Starlight fires a blinding beam of energy at Trixie's mane, who has closed her eyes tightly shut as she grits her teeth) (A billow of smoke clears) (Trixie opens her eyes and sees her mane has been transformed at the root. Once a pale blue, her mane is full of vibrant crystalline aquamarine, as its styled into a form of spiked updo Reminiscent of Spitfire's mane yet retains an elegance of Rarity's mane as well. It seems to give off a soft glow as it graces Trixie's head. Trixie is speechless.) (As Trixie ogles her new do, Starlight remarks on the spell she has used, and the principle of Mane Magic) From what I can tell, this particular spell harnesses the cool colors of spring and infuses the locks with their vibrant color as well as personality. The soft glow is remnant of a spring morning. (Trixie is extremely excited and wants to try another one. Starlight laughs and obliges her, picking another spell from the book.) (This time a flowing, arched current of purple and pink electricity crackles and sparks around Starlight's horn, as she casts the spell, directly at Trixie's mane.) (Trixie's mane has once again been transformed, this time it is neon purple and spiked up, as currents of electricity in several vibrant colors seems to breathe out from it. Trixie remarks that she feels it tingle from her head to her hooves.) (Starlight once again reads the description of the spell.) This spell captures the beauty of the visible to invisible spectrum, harnessing electricity and color to create this masterpiece, that, I don't think even the best stylists in Equestria could recreate. (Starlight tries another one. Vermilion sparks explode from her horn, as Trixie's mane once again changes) (Trixie lets out an audible gasp as her mane is now of fire. Candy red flames dance from her head, in a beautiful flowing motion, sailing upwards before fading quickly away. It doesn't burn, but Trixie remarks she no longer feels a bit chilly.) This spell uses fire and heat as a medium to literally turn the user's mane into a kaleidoscope of gently warm red flames. (Trixie is still excited and says they should try one more, before Starlight turns her mane back to normal) (Starlight selects another spell from the book. An irregular, white-blue energy, corkscrews from her horn and envelopes Trixie's mane) (A chill sweeps through the air as Trixie's mane swirls into a fancy and extravagant updo. Diamond like crystals sprout and adorn each swirl like a necklace, as frost spreads a blue hue throughout. A gentle cooling fog is seen emanating off the whole thing. Trixie shivers a bit, but is no less excited) This spell is delicate as it takes after the frost and snow from the Unknown Norths and transforms the mane into a beautiful, icy updo. (Starlight is then asked by a shivering Trixie to turn her mane back to normal. Which she does, following the reversal spell associated with all of the spells in the chapter. Trixie's mane shapes itself back to normal as the ice and chill all melts away, without a trace.) (Before Starlight can end the entry, Trixie says she wants to try a few on her, which Starlight is almost immediately against. "Oh! That's..um, that's okay, really. I like my mane the way it is! (On top of my head)" she explains nervously.) ("Oh, c'mon! You get to try all these spells on me, but when I want to try one, you say no?" Trixie retorts. She puts on the biggest, saddest puppy eyes she can as she pretends to cry. "I thought we were in this together, Starlight!" she pretend-sobs.) (Starlight is unconvinced, but lets out a sigh. "Fine." she says. Trixie lets out an excited "Yay!" as she hugs her friend, who looks suddenly pale in color.) (An hour later, Starlight is still picking bits of twigs and leaves from her mane, as birds fly about her head, trying to find where their nest has gone, as the tree that once grew from Starlight's head is no longer there. Trixie sits on a stool, as she smiles nervously at Starlight who doesn't make eye contact with her.) (Starlight plucks out another twig as she writes the final part of her entry.) All in all, mane magic is amazing, and very useful. The ability to completely transform one's mane with a spell is truly an achievement of both magic and fashion, but if there's anything to be learned from this its that, it should only be used by those with a high degree of magical skill. I'm only thankful Twilight had hedge clippers nearby.... Until my next entry.
