“Spike! Where are you?”
“I’m coming”
Spike rushed as he heard the excitement in Twilight’s voice. Usually, this means princess Celestia just called her on some important task, or it’s anther friendship problem that the map has sensed.
As he opened the door to the throne room, he saw Twilight putting all her attention to the map. But there’s no kingdom or floating cutie mark on it. Instead, the map is glowing a bright purple light.
“What’s this?”- Spike asked.
“Spike, I just performed a spell on the map which gives me the ability to see other dimensions” Twilight said.
“Dimensions? As in other worlds? Like the human world we travelled to?”
“Not exactly. This spell will show us possibilities of our world if something changed in the past. Like: What if I never became a princess, what if Nightmare Night took over Equestria, or...”
“What if I ate the Elements of Harmony?”- Spike interupted.
“What? Spike, you can’t just eat the Elements!”
“Well, I’ve always wonder what would happen if I consumed the Elements... And how they taste.” Spike said as he put on an innocent smile.
“Wow.” Twilight said as she gave him a raised eyebrow.
“Aren’t you curious?”
Twilight let out a sigh:
“Fine. But don’t get any funny idea after this.”
“Cool. I’ll go get popcorn.”- Spike rushed out of the room.
*5 minutes later*
Spike tasted popcorn a little bit while Twilight was checking on the map and her spell to make sure everything is fine.
“Ok, looks like we’re good to go. Ready Spike?”
“Ready!”- Spike said with a mouth full of popcorn, giving her a thumb up.
Twilight closed her eyes, focused on her horn as she casted the spell:
“From one timeline to another, show me what would happen if the Elements are devoured”
The map glowed even brighter. The light it radiated made Spike almost went blind. As the light went out, Spike was still finding his vision. A couple of blinks and head shaking later, he finally found it.
“Woah!” is everything he could say.
“Look, Spike”! Twilight said with excitement.
Spike looked into the map to see the old Golden Oka Library. Inside, there’s Twilight, Spike and the Elements. “Oh, I miss our old library so much”, Twilight dropped a tear.
*Other dimension’s vision*
“Alright, Spike! You’re sure you know what to do, right?”
“Don’t worry, Twilight. I got it: Cleaning the Library, reorganizing the books, watch over the Elements of Harmony, get rewarded with gems when you come back from Canterlot because you’re so proud of me for being such a good and responsible assistant”- Spike said with a bright smile and big sparkly eyes.
Twilight playfully rolled her eyes: “Just take care of yourself... And the Elements... And the books. Especially the books!” Twilight’s face got more serious.
“Yeah, I love you, too.” Spike said as he took Twilight to the door.
The little dragon waved goodbye to Twilight. As he closed the door behind him, he took a list of things he planned to do. Now that’s Twilight is gone, he can do whatever he wants. On the list, appears a line: “Tasting the Dragon Poison Joke”. Spike has always wanted to do something stupid, so when he saw the line, he thought to himself: “I should do this first”.
Dragon Poison Joke is a cousin to Poison Joke. It affects dragon and not ponies. But unlike the Poison Joke, DPJ not only affects the dragon’s appearance but also the dragon’s behavior. But Spike didn’t know, he only knew that there’s a plant called DPJ. He had found one and had been hiding it from Twilight. Taking it out of its hiding place, Spike took a good glance at it and think to himself: “This is the dumbest thing I’ve ever done”. He opened his mouth wide and swallowed the plant whole. Usually, you only need to sniff the plant to get affected by it, but Spike thought: “Why stopping there, why not eat it whole?”. And so he did.
As he swallowed the plant, he could feel his inside burning, a little bit tinkling. The affects soon escalated. Spike felt dizzy, his head spin and his limps was shaking. And soon, he collapsed.
Suddenly, his eyes opened, but they were blood red. He started to growl like a beast. His body grew bigger, his claws and scales grew sharper, and out of nowhere, he grew a pair of wings.
*Our Equestria’s vision*
“Cool!” Spike screamed.
He looked over his to his right to see an unpleased Twilight.
“You aren’t keeping any of those ‘Dragon Poison Joke’, are you?” Twilight gave him a suspicious look.
“No. But if I did, I wouldn’t tell you” Spike smiled, but as soon as he saw Twilight’s “I’ll shoot your head up” face, he replied: “It’s not a good time for a joke, is it?”
Back at the alternative universe, the mutated Spike started sniffing around. “Spike hungry!” he said. He looked for something that could fill up his big stomach. As he rubbed it, he saw the Elements of Harmony lying in day light. As his belly growled louder, he slided right at them, broke the glass. And each by each, the Element rested inside him.
Twilight suddenly walked in. As she saw Spike sitting on the floor, a bunch of broken glass lying around and the Elements of Harmony had disappeared, she gasped: “WHAT THE...? Spike! What happened to you? What happened to the Elements? Why is this place such a mess?”
A light blasted out of Spike’s mouth like laser, and then two more blasted out from his eyes. He floated in the air and levitated glass around him.
“What’s going on?! Spike?!?” Twilight screamed.
Spike suddenly closed his eyes and his mouth. As he open his eyes again, Twilight couldn’t see his pupils. A deep voice came out of him: “Greeting Princess Twilight Sparkle!”
“Who are you? What did you do to Spike?” Twilight’s horn glowed as she was ready to shoot anything she thank was dangerous.
“Your little dragon friend did this to himself.” said possessed Spike. “He has devoured the Elements of Harmony...”
“He did WHAT?!?” Twilight eyes opened the widest they could.
“Don’t worry, the Elements can never die, they transform into other energies when the gems are shattered.”
“Please don’t tell me that you’re...”
“I AM the Elements. WE have taken the body of the dragon as our host.”
Twilight fainted...
A few days after the incident, Twilight had been looking for a way to reverse what had happened to Spike and the Elements.
“Princess Twilight Sparkle, these gems are delicious. I demand more.” The Elements said.
“CAN YOU PLEASE LEAVE ME ALONE WHILE I THINK OF A SOLUTION FOR THIS MESS WE’RE IN?!?” Twilight yelled. She looks terrible now with a messy hair and tired eyes that hadn’t rest for a long time. Her only thought was to free Spike.
“Woah. Did the author press the ‘Canterlot royal voice’ button by mistake or you’re really mad? Look, I told you, there’s no way you can get us out of the body of your dragon friend but destroy us. We can only get out when his body dies. Only then we can find a new body to host”
“But if I don’t try, I’ll lose Spike. And I can’t take that” Her tears fall like rain. “I can’t...”
Seeing Twilight like that, the Elements was touched. But what could the do? If they want to give Twilight her friend back, they will have to sacrifice themselves. But if they do that, they will give up the best defense of Equestria against so many big threats to the land. But they are the Elements of Harmony, the Elements that were created from friendship, if they ignore this friendship and let it die, it will go against what they are made of.
“Maybe you should call Princess Celestia” The Elements suggested.
Twilight looked up. Her eyes were red and were filled with tears.
“Listen. You can’t fix this. But maybe princess Celestia can. And you know you can’t hide this from her forever.”
It was true that Twilight had been hiding about Spike eating the Elements from princess Celestia. She didn’t know how to tell her. Even her friends, other Elements weren’t aware of this. She couldn’t face them and say that they might lose Spike. It was true Spike did this to himself, but he didn’t know, he was just a young little baby dragon. The bestest friend of Twilight in the world. Thinking of that made Twilight cry even more.
But she stopped. She wiped her tears, took a deep breath and say: “Ok. I will write to princess Celestia. I just hope she, or somepony, can fix this.”
She took out a piece paper and her favorite writting quill. She had always used it to write to princess Celestia, excited about the friendship lesson she had just learnt. But now, the quill felt heavy even when it was just feather. She took another deep breath and put the quill on the paper. But before she could write anything, she was distracted by a green flame.
“Ugh... What was that? My stomach feels horrible” Says the Elements.
On the floor, next to Spike’s body, appears a letter. On the letter, attached a royal symbol. Twilight gasped: “It’s from princess Celestia.”
After reading the letter, she gasped even louder: “Tirek is back!!!!”
( Hi, whoever is reading, I’m Emerald. So you might be questioning: But by the time Tirek appeared on the show, hadn’t the Elements already turned into a chest? How could they still be around for Spike to eat? The answer is: My fanfic, my rule, I mean, different timelines, different things happen)
As Tirek was back, he started terrorizing ponies’ lives. The magic was sucked out of the land. Terik got stronger and stronger. Every land he passed, he got stronger.
Back at the library, Twilight was panic: “This is bad, this is really bad. The most powerful creature from Tartarus is taking over Equestria and we can’t use the only thing that can stop him”.
“Terik is back? That’s great news!” The Elements response.
“WHAT?!? ARE YOU CRAZY?!?” Twilight yelled.
“Again with Luna’s voice. Indoor voice, please!”
“How can you be so calm in this situation?”
“Your existence don’t matter much to me. Even if all lives on the world are wiped out, we Elements will still live on. Beside, I found a way for you to get your friend back. Just... Surrender me.”
“You truly ARE crazy, and inhuman. If you give yourself to him, if he gets the Elements of Harmony, we will all die.”
“Well, he’s too strong for you to fight him back already, and beside, you have to let me explain...”
Meanwhile, Tirek had taken three out of four princesses’ magic, and had learnt the existence of the fourth one. He headed to Poniville. But Twilight had noticed this. So, they came to warn her.
“Twilight! Tirek is coming!” Shout raibow as she rushed in the library with the rest of the Mane six.
“Where are the Elements?” We need them. Now!” Said a panic Applejack.
“And what happened to little Spike? Why does he have wings now?” Said Rarity.
*One explanation later*
“WHAT?!?”Pinkie panic.
“That’s horrible.” Said Fluttershy.
Rarity faints.
“What do we do now? Without the the Elements, we’re screwed!” Said Rainbow Dash.
As they were all panic, a voice echos from afar: “Princess Twilight! Come out here and surrender your power!”
“Oh no! He’s here!” Applejack states the obvious.
“We gotta run! We have to keep Twilight away from him!” Said Pinkie Pie.
“We need to keep the Elements away from him, too!” Said Fluttershy.
“Wait! Where’s Spike?” Twilight said.
Now they noticed the little dragon running outside, toward Tirek.
“Spi...” Twilight tried to call him before her mouth was covered by Applejack’s hoof. “Shh... He’ll notice you here.” They all took cover.
“But what about the Elements?” Twilight said in panic.
“There’s nothing we can do anymore.” Said Applejack. “Maybe they’re distracting Tirek so we can run, so we gotta be hurry!”
“But where can we go?” Said Fluttershy.
“Anywhere but here.” Rarity said. “We need to leave the land. Equestria has fallen.”
“But... Spike...” Twilight said in tears.
“Twilight! Look at me!” Pinkie said. “We’ll get him back. Just not now.” She wiped Twilight’s tear off...
Meanwhile, Spike, the Elements, was facing Tirek.
“Who are you, baby dragon? Aren’t you affraid of me?” Tirek states.
“I’m the most powerful in the land.” Said Spike.
Tirek bursted out of laughs: “Hahaha... That made my day.”
“Can’t you feel the magic filled inside of me?” Spike said.
“Huh?” Tirek noticed the amount of magic energy from Spike. “But how? You’re just a teenie dragon.”
“Princess Twilight sent her magic into me, as a way to say ‘I surrender!’. She and her friend has gone already.”
“Very smart of her. I hope won’t rethink and decide to come back. Now, give me that magic energy!”
Tirek said as he picked Spike up with his magic and started sucking every bit of magic out of him. After he was done, he let out a satisfied laugh. He dropped Spike to the ground. The little dragon got his senses back: “Ugh... What happened?”
“Such power! I feel tinkling inside.” Tirek said. But he soon relized something was wrong. “Why is it so...?” He collapsed.
As Spike woke up, he saw a big body of a creature from where Celestia knows next to him.
*Gulp* “What’s happening?” He asked
Suddenly, from afar: “SPIIIIIIIIIKE!!!”
He turned around to see a purple alicorn ran right at him and gave him the tightest hug he could ever feel: “OMYGOSH! OMYGOSH! OMYGOSH! Are you ok? Are you hurt? Is this really you?... "
“Easy, Twilight! I’m confused enough with this big, red, horse bottom, Iron Will look-a-like already!” Spike said as he tried to push his face out of Twilight’s chest.
Behind Twilight, the rest of the Mane six was catching up.
“Spike! You’re back! We were so worry about you!” Pinkie Pie said.
“Wow, what happened to Tirek?” Applejack asked.
Suddenly, Tirek got up, a deep voice that Twilight could recognize spoke up: “No need to worry anymore, the Elements helder, and little dragon.”
“The Elements of Harmony? Is that you?” Twilight asked. “How did you take over Tirek’s body?”
With a smile, he response: “We told you, the Elements must have a host. No creatures are strong enough to contain us if not with an intermediate. Trying to absorb us, Tirek has failed. And now, I shall return all the magic back to Equestria.”
And so, Equestria got its magic back. Everypony was filled with joy again and they all thanked the heroes, whoever they are, for saving them.
Back in Poniville, the Elements had opened a portal to Tartarus.
“You’re sure you have to go?” Twilight asked.
“If the ponies see that the evil lord from Tartarus is still around, they may get panic. I don’t want to mess up ponies’ peaceful boring lives.” The Elements said.
“I’m sorry that I ate those gems. If I hadn’t, you wouldn’t have to leave.” Spike said.
“Don’t worry, kid. You are still too young and naive. Stay away from Dragon Poison Joke, ok?”
“What?” Twilight looked at Spike with an angry face. He gave her an awkward smile.
“So long, my little ponies!” The Elements said as they entered Tartarus.
As the ponies was waving goodbye at The Elements, Twilight turned to Spike and said: “You’re grounded!”...
*Back at the Castle of Friendship, our Twilight’s dimension*
“So Spike, what have we learnt today?” Twilight asked.
“Never eat, or sniff, a Dragon Poison Joke, or any Poison Joke; never eat magical gems; and... Friendship is Magic?” Spike smiled.
“Ok, good enough.” Twilight stretched. “I think that’s enough for an afternoon. Let’s leave the map and let it rest!”
“Can you believe that the Elements can possess living things?”
“I don’t know. Maybe that’s something other dimensions have that ours doesn’t. I mean, I’ve never seen The Elements trying to talk to me.”
“Do you think the Elements are watching us from the castle?”
“Come on now, Spike. That’s silly.”
Suddenly, a deep voice echoed: “Yes, silly little dragon.”
The duo stopped and looked around in frightment....
