//------------------------------// // School // Story: Falling // by Maddie Koester //------------------------------// Mom shook me awake before the sun had even risen. I groaned as she turned on the light. "Why haven't you packed yet?!" she exclaimed. "Are we going on another vacation?" I asked groggily. "No, you have school today! Now, you need to get up and get ready." she told me as I jumped out of bed. The next fifteen minutes were spent rushing around the house, trying to get ready. We were at school by the time the sun rose, and I was pretty proud of myself for being that fast. Mom said good by as I walked to the door. It will be just like last year, but probably more bullies. I thought to myself, as I took a deep breath and walked into school and took a seat. Mother woke me up thirty minutes before school. I got dressed in my light pink silky dress, and went to brush my mane. As I brushed my mane, I accidentally hit my ears. I looked up at them and frowned. Papa and I had unique ears, they were bigger than most ears. Normally, I don't mind but... I just know I'm going to be teased today! It's just like every other year. Mother was putting the waffles on the plate as I came downstairs. They were blueberry, my favorite, and they were delicious! After I finished eating, I grabbed my purple saddle bag and Mother and I headed to school. I saw a lot of other foals as we headed towards the school; there were three foals walking together laughing. Their mothers were watching and they had matching cutie marks! "Do you know them?" I asked Mother as I pointed at the mares. "Don't point, it's rude." Mother replied, ignoring my question. I decided that I should talk to the foals, but then we got to school before I could. It was smaller than the academy, but I was glad because it had a playground! The academy never had a playground! Mother left, and I headed to the front of the school. My heart leaped with joy as I opened the door. There were a few seats left, and the three foals I saw earlier, were sitting next to each other. I took a seat next to a white colt with a pink spot around his eye. He was drawing in a notebook, I wanted to see what he was drawing but then our teacher started to make the announcements. "All right class! Welcome to your first day of school! I'm Mrs. Cheerilee, and I'll be your teacher for the whole year! Doesn't that sound exciting?" she exclaimed. I swear I heard crickets chirping when no pony answered. "Well, seeing is how you are all new here, how about we introduce ourselves to our neighbors!" said Mrs. Cheerilee. I turned to the colt drawing. "Hello, my name's Shining Feather. What's yours?" I asked meekly. "Hi, my name's Platinum Streak. I-" he was cut off by Mrs. Cheerilee. "All, right class, time to begin our lesson! Now, today we are learning... blah blah blah." Mrs. Cheerilee's voice faded. I wanted to keep talking to Platinum Streak, I wanted to make a friend for once. I looked around the class room and saw a white filly with a white coat and honey colored mane looking miserable. The colt next to her looked a lot like her, and he kept whispering to her. I looked at the filly behind me she had a copper colored coat and a cream and teal mane, and I swear that her cold grey eyes were starring me down. The colt on her left had a frey coat and a golden mane. While the filly on the right of her was completely white, except for her bright blue eyes! I shrugged off the feeling that they were watching me and started paying attention to Mrs. Cheerilee. But then I started hearing whispers from the foals behind me. And I completely heard what they were saying! My throat closed up hoping they would stop. I felt like crying. They probably haven't seen ears as unique as mine. I thought. As I focused back on Mrs. Cheerilee I said to myself,Today will be a great day!
