//------------------------------// // The Abyss // Story: The large abyss // by BrittyFIM //------------------------------// The two ponies walked in sync with one another, their hooves clopping against the ground as they moved. Scootaloo felt an excitement rise in her gut as she moved, fore her idol, Rainbow Dash, had asked her to come with to one of her favorite flying spots. She looked up at the rainbow-maned mare and smiled as the mare looked back at her. "You know, you don't have this excited at watching me fly, right?" Rainbow said in a giggling manner at the giddy pony. "I know, it's just that I can't wait to see where your favorite flying spot is! Uh... where is it exactly?" Scootaloo questioned. "Don't worry squirt, we're almost there." The duo continued their motions as they slowly arrived upon a large hole fallen deep into the ground. "And, behold," Rainbow Dash said showing off the impressive view to her little fan. "This is the 'Rainbow Dash Abyss'. Named it myself," she pointed at the large crater that was at most a mile in diameter. Scootaloo stared at it amazed at the beautiful site, she had never seen anything like it before. Scootaloo ran up to the large hole. Scootaloo peered over the edge of the ninety-degree angle that fell deep into dark haze of fog. She could see no bottom to the massive hole in the earth and she began feeling faint at the sight. "Whoa!' yelled Rainbow Dash watching the filly carefully. She pulled the small, orange Pegasus away from the edge. "I didn't bring you here to fall down a cliff you know," she said jokingly to the filly. "Oh... I'm sorry Rainbow Dash." "Eh, don't say sorry. Stay away from the edge a bit, though. If you fall, you won't be able to fly out." Rainbow Dash moved the pegasus to a safe distance from the hole. She spat onto her hoof and held it out into the air, the wind blew east. "Okay Squirt, watch." She burst off the ground as a short ribbon of rainbow spectra followed shortly behind her. Scootaloo watched as she dashed to and fro, into looping formations and did complicated tricks like they were simple and basic. She soared through the air like air resistance wasn't a thing. She flipped and corkscrewed in the air, maneuvering her rainbow tail in such a way it seemed to radiate. Scootaloo cheered happily sending Rainbow Dash a wave with her hoof. "Woooo! Go Rainbow Dash she yelled as the Rainbow mare slowly floated down towards the abyss. Suddenly, the chromatic pony got an idea. Rainbow Dash suddenly shot forward toward Scootaloo, hardly stopping a foot from her face. "Hey S, wanna see something really awesome!?" She spoke to the orange filly with sheer excitement in her eyes. "Of course!" the young mare answered with thrilling happiness. Rainbow Dash turned away from Scootaloo and burst full speed away, the sheer speed almost knocking Scootaloo over. Scootaloo watched as she flew higher and higher into the air, gaining more speed as she went. Finally, when she thought she had reached a large enough height, she dropped, plummeted. The filly watched, eyes shaking with wondrous excitement as her idol dropped from the massive height. her trajectory was bringing her straight into the pit. Suddenly, Rainbow Dash reached out her arms making her speed triple almost instantly. Her aim was dead center on the abyss and she wasn't missing. 1000 feet from the ground, 500, 100, 0. The moment Rainbow Dash passed the rim of the hole, waves of color and spectra emerged from her body followed by a loud boom. A sonic rainboom. Scootaloo was ecstatic and watched as the rainbow cloud blew out of the abyss in a cylinder-shaped plume of air. A loud bang shook the area causing Scootaloo the laugh as the noise faded. The Rainbow mist slowly began to dissipate in front of the young filly. soon there was no rainbow cloud left, nor Rainbow Dash. Scootaloo smiled with glee at the spectacle. "That... was... AWESOME!!!!" she yelled loudly, cheering even harder than before. She waited to see Rainbow Dash's head push up passed the horizontal plains of the abyss... it never came up. Scootaloo waited almost a minute before she became increasingly worried. "Rainbow?" she called. No response. "Rainbow!?" No response. "Rainbow Dash!?" she cried. No response. Rainbow Dash did not resurface over the edge of the pit. Scootaloo quickly galloped over to the sides of the cliff. All she could see was blackness and the thick grey fog that enveloped the long length of the pit. No sign of her lost idol, just more fog. "Rainbow Dash!" she yelled again into the depths. "Please!" she cried. The sound of a cold wind blowing by her ear, this was the only response. Scootaloo stared at the deep hole before her. A feeling of fear dispersing in a rapid coolness around her face, a chill releasing a slight sweat throughout her body. "No! No, no, no-" she urgently repeated to herself. "no, no, Rainbow!" Still nothing. Her bottom lip wavered slowly as a tear ran down her cheek, she recoiled herself away from the edge slowly and silent. The terrible thought of what may have happened washed over Scootaloo's body in the form of a shiver. 'Help. I need to find help.' she thought to herself. Rainbow Dash had brought a map with them and Scootaloo quickly grabbed it out from the saddle bag lying on the ground. She quickly found her location on the map, but there were no nearby towns or roads so she was stranded. "What do I do?" she cried to herself, every few moments peering into the abyss hoping to see a rainbow mane begin to peer out. Unless there was a flight patrol that went over this area, she was alone and had no such help. She slowly looked at her own wings and wished she had the ability to fly for help or even fly down the hole herself in search of Rainbow Dash. But she couldn't. Tears began to stream down her face and splash onto the dirt, below before quickly absorbing into the ground. The thought didn't even occur of how she would get herself all the way back to a town if Rainbow Dash was gone. Scootaloo thought of any plan to contact help or to have her idol, but her mind drew nothing but blank. Only one idea came to her mind but it was something that would risk herself in all this. She had to trust her wings and find her herself. Scootaloo pleaded with her mind for another solution but still, no ideas emerged. She peered into the deep abyss once again to find nothing changed. She called out another time, just in case, hoping... silence. She exhaled loudly, allowing her breath to warm to air around her. Her mind spun, hoping for her risk to pay off. She pried herself to her hoofs and leaned over the edge of the pit, a frightened look on her face. A couple tears slowly leaked off her face and dripped down into the darkness below. "Please work..." she cried, "please work... please work!" She winced as she lifted one leg up in the air and over the brittle edge. "I'm coming Rainbow Dash." She leaned forward, opening her wings wide and majestically. They pushed up from the air resistance and caught the air in the feathers. She began to flap them with strain and will. Quickly she fell below the fog. Rainbow Dash rose above the pit chuckling to herself, making a futile attempt to be silent. "BOO!" she screamed as the entirety of her body rose out of the chasm. She laughed even harder. "Scared ya, didn't I squirt!" she mocked. "Squirt!?" She looked around the wooded area for Scootaloo but saw nothing. "Squirt!?" she called again. "Squirt?"
