A Change in Destiny

A Change In Destiny (Edited)

My name is Dr. Moonlight Star, and this is the first of many journal entries that I am going to make. Just this morning, I and my twin brother, Dr. Sunlight Star, were given the task of finishing the project our great grandfather, Dr. Comet Star, began but never finished for unknown reasons. This project, known as Project Earthbound, was started to create the perfect weapon by using the magic from all three races -earth, pegasus, unicorn- and pack it all in one pony shape package; basically creating new life. This project will be kept a secret from all but a select few, even the princess will not know of it. My brother is a little worried and so are our helpers, Firefly and Ditzy Doo, but I am going to see this through...

Sunlight Star skimmed over the pages of his brother's journal. There were more entries but he didn't have enough time to read them.

So this was the beginning of all this madness, he thought.

“Sunlight~” The orange stallion froze and slowly turned around, the pale blue form of his brother hung in the doorway.

Moonlight Star stepped into the room.

“What are you doing in my journal?" He questioned as an eerie grin slowly spread across his face. "Well, no matter, you won't remember reading it soon. In fact, you won't remember anything soon!” Moonlight began laughing.

“Moonlight, this has gone on far too long. We need to stop! No, you need to stop! Creating life this way is wrong!” Sunlight stomped his hoof. Moonlight was quiet for a moment before stepping forward. Sunlight flinched back when he felt Moonlight cup his chin with his hoof. He raised it, forcing Sunlight to look at him.

“Oh dear brother, my sweet little brother. Don’t you see all the possibilities?” The crazed unicorn smiled. “Think of how much Equestria will benefit from this! From us!”

“You would kill your own brother for the supposed benefit of Equestria?”

“Yes. I need a body and yours is the only one compatible. Now, say good night, Sunlight!" Moonlight injected Sunlight with a sleeping potion. The orange earth-pony's eyes rolled back as he fell to the ground.

"Thank you on behalf of Equestria."

The first thing I felt was darkness. No light, no sound. Just darkness.

Then, suddenly, there was light. The world was no longer black, but green. I was not sure how I knew green, I just did. Just like how I knew that there were more colors than just green.

Images that I didn’t understand floating around in my head. I think they were called memories. Memories of what, I do not know. They kept slipping away when I tried to grasp for them.

I turned my attention to the world around me. Beyond the green I was floating in, I could dimly see something. Not knowing what else to do, I moved one of the objects that seem to be part of my being and brought it into my vision.

In was a round orange cylinder that seemed to move on my command. I straightened the cylinder. To my surprise, it hit something. It was some type of barrier. I pushed against it.

There was a loud crack, and then it gave out. Shortly after, a deafening sound assaulted my being. I sharply pulled the cylinder back but the sound did not stop.

Where is the green going? I floated downward, and, eventually, I felt the top of my being break free. The green cleared away from my vision. A strange sound came from me as I felt an uncomfortable sensation hit me full force.

The loud sound echoed, but beyond that, I could hear yelling. It mainly came from one source. I raised my top and looked around, there were three beings in front of me.

“Subject A-1 has broken the glass! Bring me my clipboard and don’t touch the water, it's toxic!” The blue and purple one said, obviously the leader.

“Yes sir," the pink and blue one said. They ran off somewhere.

“How did it break the glass? It was three hooves thick!” The gray and yellow one shouted loudly.

The blue one stared at me.

“Obviously, it's much stronger than we expected,” he mumbled.

The pink one ran back into the room. They handed Blue a strange rectangle object.

“Thank you Firefly."

I watched as the smaller rectangle floated within a glowing light. Blue did something with the larger rectangle. Eventually, Blue passed the rectangle over to Gray and approached me with a smile.

“A-1, you're going to change the world.”

~10 years later~

BANG

“Get up!” Moonlight Star barked loudly. “This is a test, not a nap!”

“Yes, sir,” I moaned as I worked myself back onto my hooves. I turned and faced my opponent. It was a manticore. At least it wasn't a pony this time. Or a bunny.

I shivered at the memory.

That night was terrible. I may be emotionless, but I could have sworn I felt something as I killed that bunny. That was the first time I was forced to kill something, and I did not like it. Not at all.

“A-1, eliminate.”

Eliminate.

Next thing I knew, I was standing over the dead manticore, covered in blood. Its eyes and throat were gouged out and its tail was lying on the other side of the room.

I sighed, he just had to use that word. Whenever he says that word, my mind goes blank and I wake up drenched in blood.

The door to the observing room opened. I turned and looked at my master. Moonlight was tapping his hoof impatiently, signaling that it was time to go. I followed him out of the room and down the hallway.

“A-1, you need to learn to kill your opponent without relying on your basic programming to do it for you.”

“I know,” I mumbled.

“No, you don't!”

SMACK

A gasp escaped my lips. I stumbled back and fell on my bottom. Reaching up, I rubbed were Moonlight slapped me. I looked down at my pure white tail and began playing with it.

“Look at me A-1.” I shook my head, and right then I knew I had made a mistake. I felt Moonlight slap me again.

“I said look at me!” I slowly raised my head and looked into his orange-colored eyes. When I did this he smiled.

“That's better. Okay A-1, remember what I’ve told you many times before?” I nodded. “You have only two purposes in life, to further accelerate the growth of ponykind, and to eliminate any threat to Equestria by any means necessary.”

“E-E-Elimina-” SMACK “Sorry, sir.”

“You better be,” He huffed and called for my nursemaid, Firefly. The pink mare came running.

“Yes, sir?”

“Take A-1 back to its cell,” he commanded.

“Of course.” Firefly leaned down and gently nudged me with her muzzle. “Come now, A-1. Let's get you back to your cell, okay?”

“Alright,” I mumbled as I shakily got up onto my hooves. I took one last look at Moonlight before following after Firefly.

Once we were away from Moonlight, the pink pegasus stopped and turned toward me. She bent down to get to my height.

“Are you alright, A-1?" She asked worriedly. "Moonlight hit you pretty hard this time.”

I reached and touched where the blue unicorn hit me. There seemed to be a bit of swelling, but it seemed to be okay. I nodded at Firefly.

She sighed, “That's good."

She then smiled in a loving mother like way and said, “Would you like it if we took the scenic route back to your cell?

I nodded, and so, we were off. Soon, we made it to the windowed hallway.

The scenic route was my favorite thing here. All it was was a few windows, but I enjoyed it. It made me feel... free.

I paused and turned and looked at the shelves against the far wall. I once asked about the colorful vials sitting on one of them. Moonlight told me it was leftover scraps of DNA from my creation, and that I was not to touch them.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMM!

Suddenly, a large boom echoed throughout the building. My head shot up and I looked wide-eyed out the window. I was then sent flying from an unseen force. I felt myself crash into the shelves, causing vials to shatter and spill all over me. I could feel it soaking into my skin and mane. It burned, BAD. I couldn't stop myself from screaming.

Pushing the pain down, I took a deep breath and opened my eyes. I gasped at what a saw.

The wall that once had windows were completely destroyed, showing off the world beyond. In the sky was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen.

Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple.

At that moment I felt something. Some sort of... spark. It felt so warm, so safe, despite all that just happened. I felt like jumping up and down and telling Ditzy Doo and Firefly how much I care about them.

Is this what happiness feels like? I paused and ended that train of thought with a loud gasp. Wait a minute! How can I feel anything? I thought Moonlight created me to be emotionless! Does... does it have something to do with that creature in the sky?

I heard groaning from across the room. I turned a watched Firefly approach me. “What in Tartarus was that? A-1, are you ok? Oh my Celestia, your mane!”

I blinked stupidly at Firefly and grabbed a hoof full and looked at it. My spikey, plain white mane now had new colors in it. It was the same colors that I saw in the sky earlier. I soon found myself grinning from ear to ear, which obviously scared Firefly.

“A-1?” She said nervously, “Are you alright?”

“Yeah. Yeah, I’m alright," I said.

I have a feeling that everything is going to be alright from now on.
