The Comet

Chapter 1: The Comet

It was a silent night in the skirts of Ponyville.

Currently, the Princess of Friendship, Twilight Sparkle was sitting on a hill at the edge of the town with her friends by her side. Fluttershy was grooming her pet bunny, Angel. Rainbow Dash was slouching on a cloud staring at the starlit sky. Applejack is eating an apple from her farm, relaxing from a full day of hard work. Rarity, for once, was not trying to make a dress or a hat of some sort, she just stared at the thousands of stars shining above her, admiring their glimmering beauty. Pinkie Pie was taking out the cupcakes in her basket as a snack for their star-gazing, she wanted to throw a grand party but decided it's too late in the night. Spike was sitting in a corner, reading the new edition of his favorite comic, Power Ponies: Age of Hooftron.

Starlight, on the other hoof, was using a telescope to spot the constellations in the sky, studying the celestial bodies that she could observe. After what appears to be forever, Twilight decided to break the silence.

"Girls, thanks for coming out with me tonight. I really appreciate spending time with you. Being a princess is exhausting so it's good to have a break in a while." She said.

"Eh, no problem, sugarcube. The rest of us also needs some time ta relax after a full day of hard work." Applejack said as she took another bite at her apple.

"She's right, darling. We also have tiring days so it's a pleasure that you invited us here." Rarity stated.

"Yep. It's a great thing to relax." Rainbow stated as she sank further in her cloud.

"Rainbow, you slouch all the time! How is that tiring?!" The Princess of Friendship yelled.

"Well, since I joined the Wonderbolts, I've been doing a lot stuff lately. Spitfire always gives us some hard training. Apparently, being a wonderbolt is harder than it looks." The rainbow mare replied.

"Fair point." The lavender alicorn admitted.

"Well, my days also tiring, cause I have to re-shelve all the books in the castle library since Twilight's busy with her royal meetings!" Spike shouted.

"Nobody asked you, Spike." Rainbow Dash stated.

The drake just shrugged. "Just saying."

"Well what about you, Fluttershy? How was your day?" Twilight asked.

"Well, it’s okay. I just fed the animals and had a tea party with Discord. Nothing special." The shy pegasus stated.

"Having a tea party with the immortal Lord of Chaos is not special?" The lavender alicorn asked, Fluttershy just shrugged. "Speaking of Discord, are you sure he won't be bothering us tonight?"

"Oh absolutely. Discord said that he'll be visiting an old friend and he'll be gone for a while." The shy pegasus explained.

"Well, that's a relief." The princess stated.

"Um, Twilight, why did you call us here tonight? I mean we could just go star gazing some other night, but you seem excited earlier today. Is there anything special tonight?" Starlight asked.

Twilight looked at her former student and smiled. "Good thing you asked, Starlight. Because as a matter of fact, there is. As you can see, every two thousand years or so, a rare green comet visits Equestria and lights up the sky, and it symbolizes hope. This rare celestial body is founded by Starswirl the Bearded and was named 'Alpha Omega Comet'. I've been doing some research to know when it will show up again and Today is the day!" The lavender alicorn explained.

"Well, that explains everything. I wonder how long before the comet arrive." The former villainess wondered.

"Well, we wouldn't need to wait for long. Look!" Spike shouted as he pointed towards the heavens. The group turned around and saw the thing that made their eyes go wide.

A large green ball of fire descended from the sky with a few meteors accompanying it. It leaves a glowing green trail, and every star it passes shines brighter and changes hue. The meteors surrounding it exploded like fireworks on a new year's eve.

The group stared in awe with mouth agape as they watched the sky shine while the comet.

"It's amazing!" The shy pegasus commented.

"It's awesome!" The tomboyish mare shouted.

"It's wonderful!" The dragon exclaimed.

"It's glorious!" The fashionista remarked.

"It's something I've never thought I would see in my whole life!" The former villainess yelled.

"It's so colorful! It reminds me of a party!" The party pony shouted.

"It's the prettiest thing ah ever seen!" The farm pony stated.

Twilight giggled at her friends, although she, herself, couldn't keep her eyes away from the majestic ball of green light and it's colorful show in the sky. "Okay, I need admit. This is greater than I expected."

"It's so beautiful. But I'm kinda confused, why is it called 'Alpha Omega Comet'? I mean, aren't celestial bodies named after the one who founded them, then why isn't this one called 'Starswirl's Comet?'" Starlight asked her former mentor.

"Practically, I don't know myself." The princess responded.

"Oh look at the stars! They're so pretty!" Fluttershy shouted as she hugged Angel bunny in excitement. The bunny himself stared in awe at the sky.

"They're like a thousand of glimmering gems in the sky!" Rarity exclaimed.

"Do you think I can eat them?" Spike asked.

The fashionista giggled to herself when she heard that. "Oh, Spikey Wikey, they're not actual gems. It's just an expression!" She replied.

The young dragon flushed from embarrassment. "I know that! I was just joking!"

The girls laughed at the dragon's comment for a while, before they noticed that the comet was about to leave the borders of Ponyville.

"Well, it will be gone for another two thousand years, but it's worth to see it, even once." The lavender alicorn whispered to herself.

"Quick Twilight, make a wish!" Spike commanded.

"What do you mean, Spike?" Twilight asked her dragon assistant.

"Well, you can't let a magical fireball thing-y to pass without making a wish, right?" The dragon stated.

"Spike, that's absurd! The equestrian lore states that it's shooting stars you should make a wish not a comet! But it's not that I believe that either! A wish celestial body is pure nonsense and not scientifically possible! I've studied and conducted a scientific analysis and I have found no evidence that a comet or a shooting star can make wishes come true. No, not a single situation in history have I heard or read that a shooting star granted a wish or anything of somesort. So why would I wish at that comet?" Twilight rambled, confusing her friends at her statement.

Rainbow let out a huff of annoyance and stare disapprovingly at the princess. "Still an egghead as always." She muttered at herself.

"I heard that, Rainbow Dash!" The lavender alicorn yelled in irritation.

"Gee, relax Egghead. In a land full of magical ponies that can talk, use magic, grow plants in an instant and change weather plus full of bizarre creatures, I wouldn't be surprised if a wish-granting space rock is true!" The rainbow mare stated.

"Wow, that's a lot of deep words coming from you, Rainbow Dash. You're improving from reading and becoming just like me! You're also an Egghead now, Dash!" The Princess of Friendship remarked. The others snickered at her comment.

The wonderbolt grumbled at her statement, but still continued. "Ignoring that statement. Anyway, all you have to do is to wish, what do you have to lose?"

"My pride." Twilight answered. The rest of the group (sans Rainbow) had their jaw dropped as they heard what the alicorn just said.

"Whoa, has that comet scrambled your mind?! Twilight is being proud while Rainbow is being an egghead. The world has been flipped! It's outrageous! Outrageous I say!" Rarity shouted at the top of her lungs.

"Calm down, sugar cube. So they switched attitudes, that's not a big deal. Do you remember that last time, we also did that?" Applejack questioned while nudging the fashionista.

Rarity flushed as she remembered that embarrassing memory. "Of course, darling, how could I forget. I went a little bit crazy on Trenderhoof that time." She admitted.

"A 'little bit'? More like a lot!" The farmer stated as she chuckled slightly. The fashionista blushed further and hang her head down in silence.

They turned around to see the Princess of Friendship and the Wonderbolt Athlete still bickering at the moment, after a few minutes of convincing, the rainbow mare finally convinced the lavender alicorn to make a wish.

"Oh, Alright." Twilight said, she glanced towards the sky only to see the comet already headed to Canterlot with its tail the only visible part. The alicorn secretly smiled to herself.

"Aw, that's a shame." She said in mock disappointment as she faced her friends. "Guess I can't make a wish afterall. Nice try though."

"But Twilight, the stories say that when the fireball thing's tail in the sky, you can still make a wish! I learned that from the story books of the Cakes." Pinkie stated happily.

"Gee thanks, Pinkie." Twilight said sarcastically.

The party pony beamed up, after she said that, seemingly oblivious to the sarcasm on her tone. "You're welcome, Twilight!" The party pony shouted merrily.

"I can't believe I'm doing this." The Alicorn muttered to herself.

"Oh C'mon! Just make a wish already!" Rainbow Dash shouted.

"Urgh, Fine." Twilight then took a deep breath. "I wish to spend more time with you, girls." She turned around to see the group with dumbfolded looks on their faces. She giggled a bit before turning back at the sky. "I wish that we have more time to be with each other. Being friends with all of you is everything that I ever wanted, and nothing more. I'm only wishing for an additional time to be spent with my gals, with no distraction or responsibilities, a time to have fun! It might not be much but it's all I ever wanted." She said as she finished her wish.

Tears were in her eyes, as AppleJack approached Twilight. "That's a very good wish, Twilight." She stated.

"Don't fret, darling, we'll be with you no matter what." Rarity declared.

"Yeah don't worry, Twilight. Will be here with you no matter what! Tommorow we spend time together and we party!!!" Pinkie shouted.

"Great wish, Twilight. Though I thought you were gonna wish for another boring long book that you like to read." Spike stated.

"Why! Come here you, little dragon!" The alicorn princess yelled playfully as she hugged her number one assistant and noogied his head.

"I wouldn't need some dusty old book. I've got my friends and they're everything I could ever hope for." She then grabbed her companions and pulled them on a bear hug. "We have faced many challenges, from dangerous villains to an overbearing fandom. But we stayed together no matter what. No matter how many hardships we faced and tests we recieved, the magic of friendship still bind us together and together completed them to unlock new chapters in our life and to meet new friends. I came here as a lonely unicorn who wants nothing but to study and impress her mentor, but you showed me the ways of friendship and now I'm not just a princess but the 'Princess of Friendship.' Everyday, even though I'm a princess, you still treat me like I was that nervous lonely unicorn that first landed to this town. You showed me friendship. And I am grateful for that. Despite my elevated position, you still treat me as your bestfriend and as if nothing's been change. Thank you for being my friends." Twilight said as she began to tear up.

"Eh, no problem, sugarcube. Actually, we were quite grateful that ya came in our life too." Applejack stated.

"Huh, really?" The alicorn's eye's widen in confusion.

"Eeyup, if ya didn't come here, ah should've been buckin' trees and pickin' fruits by now. Not that ah don't like that but, ya brought more excitement in our life." The farm pony admitted.

"Hay, we been through a lot of action and fightin' evil things because of ya. And now ah've got to travel across Equestria just to solve a friendship problem! Ya really change ma life, sugarcube, and ah'm grateful for that." She stated. Just as the farm pony finished her statement, Rarity stepped in and continued.

"She's right, darling. You also changed my life. If you haven't came here in Ponyville, I would've never been able to meet Princess Celestia or create a boutique at Canterlot, and I'm still fawning over those snobby nobles by now. But because of you, I learned that fame and nobility aren't the most important thing, it's friendship." She admitted.

Then Rainbow Dash stepped next. "I hate to admit it, egghead, but you changed my life too. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have learned that I like reading or meet my idol, Daring Do. I also wouldn't have passed the Wonderbolt test, if you didn't help me. Even though it's hard for me to say it I will. I owe it all to you, Princess Egghead." The rainbow mare sheepishly confessed, before turning back to her rough behavior. "But don't think this will change anything! You're still an egghead!" She yelled, Twilight just giggled as a response.

"Ooh! Ooh! Me next! Me next!" Pinkie shouted exicitedly. "Twilight, you taught me that too much fun isn't fun at all. I also learned that the world can only have one Pinkie Pie, because two or more Pinkie Pies are too much. Oh and thank you again for disposing those clones. They're a real pain in the flank!" The party pony shouted. "Now it's your turn, Fluttershy!" She then hopped aside for the shy pegasus to step forward.

"Oh what do I have to say... First, of all thank you for trusting me and believing in me. I know that I'm just a weak and helpless pegasus that barely have any contribution..."

"Fluttershy, you know that's not true!" Twilight objected but was quickly interrupted when the shy pegasus placed her hoof on the alicorn's mouth to shush her.

"Princess Twilight Sparkle, I always wanted to tell you, I am glad that you were my teacher and I am proud to be your student and your friend." As soon as she finished, she glanced to see the crying faces of her friends, but most especially Twilight's.

The lavender alicorn walked closer to her former student and gave her a hug. "I am proud that you were my student too."

Spike then stepped next and faced Twilight. "Oh, and what about me, technically I'm the one whom you had given the greatest favor of all: you gave me my life. If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have been born in this world, if you didn't hatched me, I wouldn't be here by now. You taught me everything I know, you educated me with every book in the library. Even though you're a bit annoying sometimes, I know that you just wanted the best for me. I always wanted to be with you. That's why I became jealous when you adopted Owlowiscous, I fear that you would never need me anymore. I fear that I might lose the only family I ever have and be cast away like some worthless item. I love you, Twilight, I really do, you treated me like your own son and brother, and I am always grateful for that. You supported my decisions no matter how dangerous it was, when I seek independence to learn the dragon culture, you let me go and find out, but you were still there to keep me safe. You let me be the hero of the Crystal Empire even though you're the real hero since you found the Crystal Heart, but you let all the fame go to me anyway. You gave me confidence in the Equestria Games, and saved me when I doubted myself. You accepted Thorax as my friend, and trusted me when I told you that a changeling can change even though we had a bad past with them. I am grateful for everything you've done to me, Princess Twilight Sparkle, and forever will be. I love you, Mom-sis." The dragon said as he hugged the alicorn and cried.

Twilight gently hugged him back. "I love you too, Spike."

After hugging her number one assistant, Twilight turned around to faced her friends.

"I appreciate your gratitude, but I did nothing to deserve your praises. It's the magic of friendship; none of us is here by now. Our friendship is what bonds us together and helps us accomplish such marvelous achievements. It is what held us together for so long. Even though we faced many dangerous times in the past and a few daily arguments, our friendship kept us together. And now I know that nothing can tear us apart as long as our friendship remains. And we are unbreakable." She then proceeded to hug her companions endearingly.

"We've all got each other and that's what matters" She said as they all stared the beautifully lit sky wondering what tomorrow brings.

"I mean, what could go wrong?"

Meanwhile on Canterlot, Celestia was in the balcony of her castle, staring at the mystic comet as it passes by. Though it's a sight to behold, The sun princess stared at it with a troubled expression, eyeing it with sadness and guilt. She remained there thinking deeply and unmoving from her spot.

"Sister, are you alright?" A familiar voice came from behind her. She flinched and turned around to see her younger sister and co-ruler, Princess Luna, wearing a worried look on her face. A look of concern.

"Oh Luna!" The older alicorn spoke in surprise, before turning back to stare at the sky. "It's nothing really. You can go back to whatever your doing."

"Are you certain?" The younger alicorn asked, making sure if her older sister is really alright.

"Yes. I'm fine, Luna. Don't worry." Celestia stated, not once batting an eye away from the sky.

Luna looked towards what her sister is looking at. She frowned the moment she saw the green magical fireball descending down the heavens. She then realized what made her sister upset.

"Oh, I see. It's the anniversary, isn't it?" She questioned. Celestia frowned, knowing that she can't lie as her sister already knew what is the source of her lament.

"Yes." She admited. "The comet reminds me of our most glorious victory and my greatest failure."

"Our greatest failure." Luna interjected. "It is also my fault why that happened. If it wasn't because of my stubbornness, we could've achieved victory without further causalities." She looked away in guilt. "We could've save them."

"You're right, Luna. We did achieved victory, but we lost them. I feel like they are looking with disappointment on us by now." Celestia frowned, then tears started falling from her eyes. "If only we could go back in time and change history, they could've been saved!"

"You know that's not going to work, Tia. We're still going to lose them either way." Luna stated. "If it wasn't for HIM, we should've have been liberated from our duties centuries ago. He wanted us to suffer!"

"I know. But anger and vengeance isn't the right way. He's gone now, and he can't hurt us any longer." The older alicorn stated.

"True. But even after his defeat, he has caused us so much misery than any other villain in Equestria or in the whole world. Still, his constant torture has made us strong and powerful leaders in the land." Luna comented.

Celestia smiled. "Maybe you're right." She agreed.

There was a long awkward silence that consumed the time of the two royal sisters. Both are unsure and guilty of bringing past matters. After a long moment of silence, Luna spoke.

"Tia?"

"Hmm..."

"Do you miss them?"

"Oh, Lulu, I missed them so much. There isn't a single day that I won't look at the stars and wish that they could comeback. A wish ,I know, that will never be granted."

"Do you love them?"

"With all of my heart, Luna. With all of my heart."

The older alicorn then wraps her wing on her younger sister and hugs her as they continued to watch the night sky.

Meantime in the far borders of Equestria, the legendary Alpha-Omega Comet was just leaving the land of the ponies and was heading back into the cosmos, when suddenly, a strange powerful magical force diverted the comet's path, pulling it directly towards the icy mountains of the Frozen North. As the magical force pulled the comet towards the mountains, a powerful impact soon followed as the comet crash-landed on one of the mountains. Though the impact was strong enough to stop the comet from moving, the magical force draw the mystical fireball even more closer forcing it to penetrate the mountain in sheer force.

As the comet bore the mountain, the magical force became stronger and stronger while the comet itself became even hotter the closer it gets to its destination. Each passing second, the comet became stronger and more powerful but also becoming more unstable.

The moment the comet hit its destination, it exploded in a powerful blast of green light. Unleashing all of the energy stored in it and melting everything in its wake. It lashed out bolts of purple lighting against a solid block of ice that was strangely the closest thing to the magical fireball yet somehow the least affected.

The energy from purple lightning bolts then started thawing the indestructable ice block, causing a large part of its energy to be drained.

As the ice block was being thawed, a being as old as time itself began to awaken from its milenium old prison and is more than ready to share his hatred to the world.

As the comet lost all of its power and was degraded into three medium-large gemstones, which shattered upon their contact with floor.

The being looked towards the gemstones, the moment he saw their shattered state he grinned.

"MMMWA-HA-HA-HA-HA AHA-HA-HA-HA-HA...!"

To be continued...
