Celestia's Torment

by Foxaholic

Source of torment.

There I was, in front of the door to Twilight's library, trying to calm down before meeting my student. I knocked at the door and tried my best to smile. Soon enough, I heard the sound of hooves approaching and not long after that Twilight opening the door with a smile, having been informed of my visit a while ago.

"Princess! I'm so glad you came!" I walked in as she closed the door, both of us then going to the living room. "So, how can I help you?" Twilight was smiling from ear to ear.

"Well... I've been having some problems lately, I hoped that you'd be able to help me with it, you don't mind, right?" I asked her, my smiling face changing to match my true state of worry. It seemed to surprise her, which is understandable.

"Of course I don't mind! What's the problem princess? Did something break out of Tartarus? An old enemy returning? How about a-" I cut her off with a hoof.

"No, no, Twilight. Nothing of sorts. It's more like a worry of mine. I want to talk to you about it." I said trying to calm her down.

"Heh... Sorry Princess, I must have overreacted a little. Here, you can sit here and talk to me about it." She motioned to the sofa while she brought a chair and sat on it. She also put o some glasses and got out a notebook, which caused me to giggle. "So, what's the problem?"

"Well... It all started a few months ago... I was just sitting in the throne room, you know, the usual things. But something felt off, a weird feeling of being watched descending onto me, it was getting worse as the day went on. By chance I sneaked a glance at the window; and there it was... Looking at me... It disappeared soon, giving me just enough time to know it was there, but not enough to really figure out the details."

"What was it? Did you manage to figure it out in the end?" Asked Twilight getting both worried and curious about the matter.

"No... I never could make out what it really was... It seemed to always disappear just when I was about to figure out what it was." I said with a sigh.

"I see... You can continue with the other times you saw it, Princess." She motioned me with her hoof as she said that.

"Alright... The second time I saw it was while I was visiting my sister. I was going to her to wake her up, all the guards saluted me as usual, but when I entered the room I saw it again... Sitting on top of the sleeping body of Luna, before disappearing quickly. I do have to admit that my reaction was... A little bit exaggerated since I woke up Luna with my panic... She wasn't happy with the way I woke her up."

"Umm... Princess? It disappeared? How? Did it use magic or something?" Twilight asked while scribling down something in her notebook.

"I don't know how it did it, I mean, I didn't feel any magic being used or anything like that. It just... Disappeared. No smoke, no smell, no distortion of the world, not even a sound!"

"That's really... Weird." Twilight was getting confused.

"It gets even weirder. The next time I saw it, I was sitting it my bathtub, relaxing after a really long day. I was feeling sleeping and almost fell asleep, but the moment I opened my eyes, there it was, floating in font of my eyes. I could finally notice something about it. It was yellow and relatively small. Before I could find out anything else it rushed at me and I closed my eyes preparing for impact. But it never came, and when I opened my eyes it was gone. It left something on the mirror though... A smile made out of some weird substance that somehow dissolved seconds later."

"A... Smile? What does that even mean?" Asked Twilight while tilting her head.

"I don't know! I am sure that it wasn't a friendly one... More of a taunting one. I really hope it isn't some joke made by Discord... But it is really unlikely because of his change of heart." And so both of us started thinking what this phenomena could actually be. We thought about the possibilities of what would make the most sense, later we even thought about stuff like beings from other dimensions and such. After what felt like years, we managed to come up with nothing.

I was looking around the room, trying to think of whatever could explain this. Somehow, time started moving slower and slower, until it reached a state of almost stopping. I slowly, oh so slowly looked up towards the moon who has replaced my sun, probably the work of Luna, but something seemed off. I couldn't seem to point it out though... The moon just seemed to be different than how it usually is. It was bigger, way bigger than usual. You could even say it looked bigger than the sun. Another abnormality about it was that its shine seemed... Yellow, which is really different from the usual calming silver glow that seemed to soothe your mind. As quickly as I noticed that, it went back to normal. The weird moon instantly becoming the old one I was familiar with. I calmed down, thinking I was just seeing things; but as soon as I thought about it, the space in front of the window started... Distorting. It looked a lot like Discord's work, but way more unnatural. Then I saw it... I was right there... Looking at me...

"A-Ah... Tw... Twil... Tw-Twilight! No- NO NO NO NO! NOT HERE! NOT NOW! TWILIGHT! TH-THERE!" I threw my hand forward pointing at it and mumbling like what seemed like a crazed mare. Twilight had a confused look plastered on her face, that is, until she turned around and saw what I did.

""AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!""
