//------------------------------// // Chapter 1 Part 2: The Ruins: Vs. Toriel // Story: Princess of L.O.V.E. // by FandomPlays1234 //------------------------------// Cadence stopped short as a small white frog jumped out in front of her. Ever since she walked away from the save point nothing had attacked her until now. Unfortunately for her she only managed to take four steps before the frog attacked her. A white text box appeared in front of her as usual. Froggit hops towards you "What in Equestria?" Cadence asked. Confused, Cadence decided to play along as usual and selected the Act option which allowed her to choose one of three options. Cadence pressed the Compliment option an said,"You look nice today," Froggit didn't understand what you said but was flattered anyway. Suddenly Toriel appeared from the side and glared at the Froggit forcing him to hop away. You Won! You earned 0 EXP and 0 Gold Dumbfounded, Cadence decided to shrug it off and continued to follow Toriel into a room with a large spikes popping out of the ground, around it was nothing but water. "This is the puzzle but, just stay close and follow me," said Toriel. Cadence gasped as Toriel was about to step foot on one of the spikes only to see in shrink back into the ground. "Come along now," Toriel called out to her. Cadence took one look at the path and shook her head,"Nope," Toriel had agreed to help her but walking over this was too risky, spreading her wings she jumped up and flew across the path and landed on the other side completely unharmed. Toriel was obviously amazed by this. "Wow you did it?" Toriel said feeling outsmarted. Cadence shrugged and waited as Toriel quickly made her way onto her side of the room. "Puzzles seem too dangerous for now," she said walking into the next room. Cadence had expected there to be a room full of traps, but when she entered she found it to be completely empty. "You have done excellently thus far, however I have a difficult request to ask of you," said Toriel. "Difficult request?" Cadence asked. "I would like for you to walk to the end of the room by yourself," answered Toriel. Cadence just looked at her as if she was being stupid. "Forgive me for this," Cadence watched feeling ridiculed as Toriel ran off. Shrugging, Cadence just started walking towards the other side like she did normally. As she walked she noticed that the room seemed a little long than usual. When she reached the end, Toriel ran out from behind the pillar nearby. "Greetings Cadence, do not worry I did not leave you," said Toriel. "And why would I need to worry?" asked Cadence. "Uh well...." Toriel didn't have an answer for that. "Well you see I just wanted to test your independence," "Oh kay?" Cadence asked raising a brow. "You see I have to attend to some business so I have to leave you for a while," said Toriel. "I see," said Cadence. "I know I'll give you this cell phone to hold onto," said Toriel pulling out a small phone. Cadence took the phone with her magic and turned it on. It wasn't much but it had Toriel's number already imputed. "Be good Cadence," said Toriel running off. "Oh well guess I'm alone," said Cadence advancing into the next room. She quickly noticed another save point nearby and decided to save, but before she could even take one step her phone went off. "Hello?" Cadence asked. "Hello this is Toriel, you have not left the room have you?" Toriel asked. Cadence bit her lips feeling a bit guilty. "There are a few puzzles up ahead I have yet to explain, it would be dangerous to try and solve them yourself," said Toriel. "Be good alright?" Toriel asked before hanging up. "More puzzles huh, well won't hurt to try them," said Cadence. "But first," she walked over to the pile of leaves and tapped the light. Playfully crinkling through the leaves fills you with determination, HP fully restored. Cadence selected the save option and moved on. From that point forward Cadence continued to spare monsters and eventually reached another save point. After saving she headed into the next room. Up ahead she noticed a ghost lying down in a pile of leaves. "zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz (Are they gone yet?) zzzzzzzzzz," This ghost keeps saying 'Z' out loud repeatedly pretending to sleep. "Well," said Cadence. Move it force? Two options appeared Yes, or No? "Yes," said Cadence. However upon coming in contact she was thrown into a battle. Here comes Napstablook "Ok check," said Cadence going into Act. Attack 10 defense 10, this monster doesn't seem to have a sense of humor.... "Oh I'm real funny," moaned Napstablook. Suddenly tears began to rain onto Cadence forcing her to side step in order to avoid them. The faint odor of ectoplasm permeates the vicinity. "Alright cheer," said Cadence selecting Act . You give Napstablook a patient smile "Heh, really not feeling up to it right now sorry," said Napstablook. Napstablook looks a little bit better "Can't spare so cheer," said Cadence. You told Napstablook a little joke "Oh uh what's a hammer's favorite snack?" Cadence asked. "What?" Napstablook asked back. "Pound Cake," Cadence smiled. "Heh, heh," giggled Napstablook. But even after the joke Napstablook started to cry again. Cheering seems to have improved Napstablook's mood again. "Can't spare you yet so cheer," said Cadence. Napstablook wants to show you something. "Let me try," said Napstablook. Suddenly his tears started floating up to his head forming a little hat. "I call it dapperblook," "Do you like it?" he asked. Napstablook eagerly waits for your response. "Of course I do," chirped Cadence. Suddenly the battle ended. "I usually come to the ruins because there's nobody around," said Napstablook. "But today I met somebody nice, oh I'm rambling again I'll get out of your way," said Napstablook as he vanished. "Well then that was nice I guess," said Cadence. With that she continued forward. After several more puzzles and monsters and several calls from Toriel, Cadence eventually reached a small house. Just as always she saved before going in. Seeing a cute tidy house in the ruins gives you determination, HP fully restored. Walking in she was instantly greeted by Toriel herself. "Oh hello again I don't know how you managed to get here on your own but you must be exhausted," said Toriel. "Yeah I am," said Cadence. "By the what's that smell?" "Oh that, it's Butterscotch and Cinnamon Pie," answered Toriel. "I thought I might want to celebrate your arrival, I want you to have a nice time as possible," "Gee thanks Tori but you know, you didn't have to do this for me," said Cadence. "Oh nonsense now come along, I will show you to your room," said Toriel. Cadence didn't need to argue she was already feeling quite tuckered out from today and just wanted to go to sleep. "Here it is, make yourself at home," she said walking back towards the kitchen. Cadence opened the door and walked, first thing she noticed was how clean and tidy the room was, but as if right now she just needed some rest. She hopped onto the bed and closed her eyes. When she woke up, Cadence noticed the room to look a bit darker than before. She didn't know how long she had been asleep for but she felt perfectly refreshed. Getting out of bed she noticed a plate with a piece of pie on the floor next to her bed. You found a slice of butterscotch-cinnamon pie. She picked it up and placed it in her inventory. Now that she was up, she had to figure out a way to get out of here, maybe Toriel had some answers. She walked out and headed towards the living room where she found Toriel sitting on a chair near the fireplace. "Oh up already I see," said Toriel. "Yeah," answered Cadence yawing. "Well I can't tell you how glad I am that you are living here," said Toriel. "Um actually about that," said Cadence. "I have some business back up on the surface so I was wondering when I can go home," "What.... this, this IS your home now," said Toriel. "Um would you like to hear about this book I'm reading, it's called 72 uses for snails," "Um sounds great and all but I REALLY need to go back, so where's the ruin's exit?" asked Cadence. "I have to do something, stay here," said Toriel getting up from her seat. "What?" asked Cadence. But before Cadence could ask anymore question Toriel ran off. The sound of footsteps going down stairs could be heard. "Hey Tori wait!" Cadence called out running after her. Cadence had found her standing in the basement. "You wish to know how to return home do you not?" asked Toriel. "Ahead of us lies the end of the ruins, a one way exit to the rest of the underground, I'm going to destroy it, no one will ever be able to leave again," "What why?" asked Cadence following Toriel. "Every pony that has fallen down here has met with the same fate, I have seen it again and again, they come, they leave, they die," said Toriel. Cadence's heart froze, the thought of the ones before her hadn't been a thought up until now. "You naive mare if you leave the ruins......they, Asgore.... will kill you, I am only protecting you do you understand, go to your room," said Toriel. "But Tori wait," said Cadence. "Do not try to stop me, this is your final warning," said Toriel. "Tori please just listen to me," said Cadence. She eventually found Toriel standing in front of a huge purple door. "You want to leave so badly?" asked Toriel. "Hmph you're just like the others, there is only one solution to this, prove yourself.... prove to me you're strong enough to survive," Suddenly Cadence was thrown into a battle against Toriel. Toriel blocks the way. "Oh no, alright I'll check," said Cadence. Attack 80 Defense 80 knows best for you. Suddenly multiple balls of fire appeared around Toriel and flew at Cadence. Toriel looks through you. "Toriel Stop!" Cadence cried pressing the talk option. But Toriel continued to attack. Toriel looks through you. "Tori please!" Cadence cried out close to tears. Even so Toriel did not halt. Cadence continued to avoid the flames. She quickly decided and hit the Spare option. But Toriel gave no response and continued to attack. Toriel looks through you,"Spare," Again Toriel gave no response. Toriel prepares a magical attack. "Spare," For the third time Toriel gave no response. Toriel is acting aloof. "Spare," ".....?" Toriel looks through you. "Spare," "What are you doing?" Toriel asked as she attacked. Toriel takes a deep breath. Cadence quickly looked over to her HP, it was down to 10. "I'll keep sparing you Tori," Cadence called out. "Attack or run away!" Toriel ordered. As Toriel launched another attack Cadence's health was driven to 1. Toriel prepares a magical attack. "Spare," "What are you proving this way?" Toriel asked. Cadence's legs trembled the burns on her body stung, tears in her eyes were rolling down her cheeks and she was sweating like crazy. She closed her eyes to prepare for Toriel's next attack only to find out that she was completely missing every move. Toriel looks through you. Confused Cadence once again selected Spare. "Fight me or leave!" Toriel ordered. Once again her attacks were missing Cadence. "Spare," "I know you want to go home but," Toriel stopped short. "Spare," "But please go upstairs now," Toriel pleaded. "Spare," "I promise I will take good care of you here," Toriel said. "Spare," "I know we do not have much but," "Spare," "We can have a good life here," said Toriel. "Spare," "Why are you making this so difficult?" Toriel asked close to tears. "Spare," "Please go upstairs," Toriel begged. "Spare," Toriel said nothing. "Spare," "Ha ha," Toriel chuckled. "Spare," "Pathetic, is it not I cannot save even a single mare," said Toriel. "Spare," once again Toriel said nothing. "Spare," "No I understand, you would be unhappy trapped down here, the ruins are very small once you get used to them, it would not be right for you to live in a place like this, my expectations, my loneliness, my fear, for you Cadence I will put them aside," said Toriel. With that the battle ended. "Tori," said Cadence tearing up. "If you truly want to leave the ruins, I will not stop you, however when you leave, please do not come back.... I hope you understand," said Toriel. Cadence ran over to her and hugged her sobbing quietly. "Goodbye Cadence," With that Toriel turned around and walked back where she came from. Cadence wiped her tears and opened the door to move on. Looking back to say one last goodbye to the ruins she advanced down the path. "Sweet Celestia what a long hallway," said Cadence making her way towards the arc on the other side. Once she reached the arc and passed through it, she noticed a small ray of light shining down on a small patch where Flowey was waiting for her. "Clever, verrrrryyy clever," said Flowey. "Oh it's you again," groaned Cadence. "Well of course, by the way you think you're really smart don't you?" asked Flowey. "What do you want Flowey?" asked Cadence. "In this world it's kill or be killed, so you were able to play by your OWN rules, you spared the life of a single person," cackled Flowey. "Yeah so what?" asked Cadence. Flowey chuckled,"I bet you feel really great, you didn't kill anybody this time," "Why would I?" asked Cadence. "I don't know, what if you meet a relentless killer?" countered Flowey. Cadence clenched her teeth together, she really hated this thing. "You'll die, and you'll die, and you'll die, until you tire of trying, what will you do then?" "Will you kill out of frustration or will you give up entirely on this world and let ME inherit the power to control it?" Cadence didn't want to answer. "I am the prince of this world's future, don't worry my little monarch my plan isn't regicide, this is so much more interesting," Suddenly his face popped out of his head as he cackled demonically. Then he disappeared into the ground. "You little freak," growled Cadence. At first she disliked Flowey for tricking her but now she pretty much hated him, but right now wasn't the time for that she had to keep going. She walked towards the arch and looked back. Hopefully things weren't gonna get worse as it already is.
