Carillon Citadel

Exalted Warden Darrelain stomped through the halls of Carillon Citadel with a purpose. Each fall of his armored boots landed with the fury of a man betrayed. White, silver, and black armor plates shifted organically with his movements, projecting the illusion that his Wulfblood Armor was a living shell. He scowled behind his muzzle-like faceplate, the red L.E.D. eyes flashing brightly in response to his irritation.

The large man huffed, looking to the warrior at his side. “And we lost them how, exactly?!” he growled.

“A phase phenomenon, Exalted Wolf,” answered the woman beside him. Snow Raptor pattern BDU woven from titanium-polymer nanocomposites hugged her body comfortably, while her shins and thighs were protected by solid red ochre plates hemmed in gold filigree. Her torso was covered in ergonomic ceramic trauma plating with the same coloration as her shin and thigh guards. Connected to her armor was a large, currently deactivated, claw.

“Elaborate, Pantera.

She looked up, her ballistic collar blocking the jaw of her armor. Pantera’s helmet mounted holo-projector lit up, displaying calculations and models in real-time as they walked. “I believe the Revered Mother used smuggled technology to open a phase gate and escape with Patient two-two-oh-four.”

“I trust you and your subordinates’ findings. This is far beyond our ability to handle on our own, though.”

“Indeed. Our benefactor has already arrived and is currently investigating the area where they disappeared.” Darrelain nearly stopped at her words.

The door was already open upon their arrival. Inside, investigating the warped space in the corner of the room, stood a cloaked man. Not even the thick, concealing garb draped across his form could hide the fact that he was heavily armored.

Other than the scars present on his face, he appeared to be rather young, no more than a hundred or so. Short, unkempt fiery orange hair sat atop his head while intense golden ears looked over the phenomenon.

Pantera immediately fell into a kneel upon seeing the man.

“Perth,” he acknowledged once the Warden entered the room fully.

Darrelain opened his mouth to speak, but quickly shut it, realizing that little more than a choked stutter would make it past his lips. Taking a deep breath, started again. “You honor the us with your presence, Lord Kemselpth.” He placed a fist to his chest in salute. “I would like to apologize--”

“There was nothing you could have done to stop whatever plan my mother has enacted, so I commend your rapid response.”

Darrelain nearly stumbled at Kemselpth reveal. Were it not for his trained professionalism he’d have fallen over at learning The Revered Mother’s true identity.

“Then what are we to do about this situation, my Lord?” Pantera asked from her kneeled position. She was shaken, but not as badly as Darrelain.

“Whatever Yther is doing, she is doing it on a different plane. Rather, the woman she took is doing it.” Kemselpth reached into his cloak and snapped something away his armor. Holding out his hand, he presented the woman with a small, rectangular device. “This should be more than enough to both track down your lost patient and get you to their current plane. Figure out what their goals are and stop them if necessary. The Death Tollers have yet to let me down, and I’ve no reason to believe that you will anytime in the near future.”

Kemselpth nodded to both warriors as he exited the room. “May the Bell toll for you both.”
