Daydream's Shapeshifting Block

Midnight Sparkle was thought by many mortals to be a horrible, twisted beast among many. She was told to children so parents could scare them into eating their vegetables at night. She was truly something of a nightmare.

HAVE. YOU. MET. ME?!

Nah! I'm nothing like that! My name is Midnight Sparkle and I live in an alternate universe, or AU, as you UnderTale fans call it. In this AU, I live in my castle that my mother bought for me, in exchange that I model my father's line of fashion, which is boring beyond belief, but I kinda owe it to them. In my castle, I get dreadfully lonely. But, there's someone else living with me that makes me instantly forget I'm lonely. Her name is Daydream Shimmer, she's my roommate and best friend.

I wake up at 11:00AM on a Saturday morning, groaning as a pounding in my head knocked on me. My mouth was dry and my wings ached from flying way too hard the day before. I groaned. But as I was going to get out of bed, I heard a presence at my doorway.

"Good morning, Middy," Daydream said, her sweet voice filling my ears. I could see her angelic body, glimmering with light, through the doorway.

"Hey," I said, trying to do everything I could to keep from falling over. I was never EVER a morning person. Daydream entered my room, her sparkling figure making me flinch. "Ugh, Daydream, could you put that away? Waking up is difficult if I can't open my eyes," I complained, shielding my face. She giggles at me. I love that sound.

"Sorry, sorry. I'm just excited today. I made the Flying Scouts a few days ago," She said, pushing her hand into my messy hair. The sensation of her fingers running through my hair send ruffles to my feathers.

"Wow, girl. I get it, you're fast," I said, rolling my eyes. I remember that after the Fall Formal when she had turned into Daybreaker, (I beat her, of course) she became unable to fly, or even do basic magic spells, which might have just been due to a complete lack of confidence. She's grown so much since then. She even was the only one who fought me when I turned into Mad Twience, then she defeated me.

Daydream continued to pet my head, much to my annoyance and, if not, slight amusement. She smiled at me, sweetly.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" I asked, a small huff rising from my throat. She just chuckled at me, before she got off my bed and exited my room. I pursed my lips. She's mysterious, alright. "You didn't answer the question," I mumbled, pushing myself out of bed.

I got into my unusual attire, which showed my truer colors. My hair was up in a ponytail, and I was wearing blue glasses over my false eyelashes. I was wearing a pink sweater with a purple boetie and a violet skirt with my Cutie Mark on it. I carefully placed my necklace around my neck. I was ready to face anything today, even if I didn't want to.

My castle was huge, so I lost my way to the kitchen about thirty times before I finally found it. It was a lovely surprise to see Daydream at the counter, cooking breakfast for us. I sighed, pushing my glasses up the bridge of my nose. I came up behind her and wrapped my arms around her waist, nuzzling her shoulder with my cheek. She patted my hand.

"Good morning, Middy," She said as the eggs sizzling on the pan in front of her crackled. "Scrambled or sunny side up?" She asked, as I affectionately shared my sent with her. That's something you do in this world, to show that you're here for someone. It's a lovely feeling.

"I'm in a "scrambled" mood today, Dreamy," I said, subtlety kissing the Cutie Mark on her shoulder. It was a simple brush of the lips, not really enough to be noticeable. I let go of Daydream to let her continue her work.

"Coming right up," She said, smacking my leg with her foot. I nearly tripped. Oh man, she felt me kiss her. I felt heat come to my face as I smiled sheepishly, even though she couldn't see it. I went over to the giant, round table, sitting down. I watched Daydream cook for a few minutes, before she put my food down in front of me.

"You're very talented," I said, smiling at her. I could see her face turn as crimson as the mask around her eyes. She's so cute when she's blushing.

"Oh, well... cooking is one of my favorite things to do," She said, rubbing the back of her neck. I snickered, using my magic to pick up my fork. I began eating and as expected, it was delicious. Daydream even put little bits of Crystal on top, which crunched in my teeth. We ate silently across from each other. I finished first, easily devouring my meal. Daydream was eating more slowly. She's way more polite than I am, haha. I watched her. She's very pretty to watch, even if she is just eating a meal.

"What?" She asked upon noticing my staring. I just rested my head on my hand as I smirked.

"You know, you're very pretty," I said bluntly, watching as she smiled at my comment.

"Gee, thanks. I don't think I'm pretty," Daydream said, sighing sadly. A blinked at her. I have to admit, I was a little shocked at her statement.

"Really?" I said, cocking my head to the side in mild confusion. Daydream was going to take a bite of her egg but she put her fork down.

"It's not too big a deal," She said, shrugging it off. I stayed silent.

After we were both done, Daydream went into another room to finish up a homework assignment. I knew she could handle it, so I went into my "romance room" to watch TV. It has a fireplace and everything. It's so awesome in there. My favorite moment in this room is when I actually got to cuddle Daydream by the fireplace during Hearth's Warming eve. It was quite obvious she had a crush on me back then, but now it's a lot harder to tell. She never cuddled with me like that again, which was pretty sad.

I tried to entertain myself with Television, but nothing really worked. You see, I'm a TV watching champ. I've either seen it, or I have seen it. (Wait, that doesn't make sense... eh whatever.) I went out of the room to go check on Daydream. Took me about half an hour to find her. I mean, wow, my house is huge.

I found her in the library part of the castle. She was writing on a paper, which I knew was probably calculus homework. I wanted to groan as I looked over her shoulder. She had gotten more than a few questions wrong.

"I'm bored," I said, putting my chin on her head.

"Well, I'm doing something productive. Go away," She said, trying to shoo me away with a simple gesture of her hand. I buried my face into the back of her head, breathing in the nice smell of her golden-red locks.

"No. I'm bored," I said, flapping my black wings to stimulate wind.

"Go do something else then," she said, using her telekinesis to push me away. I adjusted my glasses.

"How am I supposed to if the only interesting thing here is you?" I joked, going back to her to rest my chin on her head again.

"Go away, Middy. I have homework," She groaned at me, all whilst patting my hand, which I thought was counterintuitive.

"Oh, come on! It's Saturday!" I complained, ruffling her hair. She smacked my hand, and I flinched.

"I said no. Go do something else," Daydream said, not even looking at me. I sat down next to her, in a chair.

"Make me," I said stubbornly. I gave her a smile as she frowned at me. She looked back at her homework. I continued to stare at her, which seemed to hinder her concentration. Eventually, she sighed in defeat.

"Fine. What do you want to do?" She asked, putting down her pencil. I squeed, and tackled her in a hug.

"Well, I remembered that I've never seen your room before. I would like to see it with you," I said, tapping my twisted horn to her straight one. Bumping horns is a sign of affection, if you didn't know. I'm an affectionate girl.

"Sure, I guess you could see my room," Daydream said, shrugging. I took her hand, squeeing even louder as I lead her to her room. I was practically jumping up and down when we got there.

"Jeez, Midnight. You would've thunk you just won the lottery," Daydream said, a shy smile on her lips. I grabbed her shoulders and hugged them, paying no mind to her sarcastic comment. Daydream shirked a little at my sudden action, but she brushed me off and pushed the door to her room open.

As I bounded in, the room was more edgy than I expected. There was skulls on the wall, dragon staues, what I hope was fake blood. I looked at Daydream for an explanation.

"I was.... going through a phase," She said, her face turning slightly pink.

"Nah. I think it's super cool," I said, twirling my hand at the dragon statue. It was of a dragon with several other creatures in its mouth.

"I made it myself. Just that one though. It was made in a rage of trying not to hurt my enemies and spill their blood," Daydream said, giggling at her own words.

"Heh. I can't believe you didn't let me in on this sooner," I said, admiring her artwork. "Its beautiful, in a edgy teen kinda way," I said, putting my arm around her. I saw Daydream blush again.

"Thanks," She said. I left her side to look around the room.

"Huh? What's this?" I asked, observing the immense amount of magic on what looked like a cube made of wood. It was painted orange, but I could practically smell the magic aura surrounding it.

"Oh that? It's a failed experiment of a shapeshifting spell," Daydream said, shrugging. "It turns into anything I tell it to. I tried getting it to turn into living beings, but it never did. The only thing it does is turn into inanimate objects," Daydream explained, coming over to touch it. "Pencil," She said, and the cube immediately turned into a brand new pencil.

"Woah!" I gasped, a smile coming to my face. I pushed my glasses up the bridge of my nose, after a few seconds of staring.

"Cool, huh? I don't use it much, but I have to say, it's very 'sharp'," She punned, nudging my arm. I groaned. I love her and all, but I really dislike her puns.

"Sign of disapproval," I said, touching the orange pencil. In a flash, it turned into a sign that said 'dispaproval' on it, which made Daydream burst into a furry of giggles.

"Middy, you're so funny!" Daydream said, from her place on the floor. I helped her stand up, while I rolled my eyes at her.

"Come on, Daydream. Let's play with this thing a little more," I said, snapping my fingers. In an instant, we all were outside. Daydream was slightly shocked, so she took a stumble.

"A little warning, next time?" She said gruffly. I snickered at her, holding up the orange sign.

"Tiny Daydream doll," I said, a snicker coming from my throat. In my hand appeared a little porcelain doll that looked remarkably like the beautiful girl in front of me.

"I swear to God, Middy," Daydream said, frowning at me. It was my turn to burst out laughing hysterically. After I was done, I brought the doll to my lips and kissed it softly. Daydream's face turned bright red. She tried to hide it, but she couldn't really.

"What? You're so cute as a tiny doll!" I said, before having another fit of laughter. Saying it sounded so weird.

"Gimmie that," Daydream said, taking the doll for my hands. "Machine of Death," she said, smirking at me. Before I could say anything, in front of me was a giant torture chamber.

"Wow, its gorgeous!" I said as I watched as a cardboard cutout of Trixie was sliced in half.

"I'm proud of it. It took me several months forming it perfectly in my mind to get the look on her face just right," Daydream said, an evil smile coming onto her face.

"That's why we're friends," I said, putting an arm around her. My cheek touched hers and I nuzzled her softly. I heard her giggle.

"You know, this was kinda fun," She said, turning to give me a hug.

"See? What did I tell you? Anything is fun with me! Come on, let's keep playing with this thing," I said, nudging Daydream's shoulder.

We played with that thing all day, having fun. I even laughed at Daydream's horrible jokes. I would like to say, it was fantastic. It was cool to hang out with Daydream! I hope we can hang out again like that soon. Not just in school, but just having plain, old fun. I'm excited for our next adventure though. Hopefully, next Saturday, a monster will attack a town of something. I'll bring popcorn!
