//------------------------------// // It's True // Story: ''But You Both Look The Same!'' // by Ribe_FireRain //------------------------------// ''All I'm saying is that you both look the same!'' Ember said as she threw her blue-scaled claws up in frustration. The two mares, Twilight Sparkle and Starlight Glimmer, stared daggers at the dragon, their stares of steel burrowing through Ember's orange eyes. ''We both look the same?'' Starlight began. ''Are you serious? Me and Twilight look nothing alike!'' She protested, motioning a hoof towards the alicorn Princess of Friendship and then to herself. ''We don't even sound the same!'' ''Yes, you do!'' Ember facepalmed, stating her facts like they were supposed to be obvious. Apparently, they were not, resulting in this heated debate about who looks like who. ''Not only that, but your names sound even more similar!'' ''No, they don't!'' The two frustrated mares said in unison. An unamused and annoyed expression crossed the dragon's features. ''Are you two blind or something? Have you ever even taken a moment to look at each other's features?'' She asked, moving forward and taking a hold of Twilight's cheeks, turning her head to face Starlight. ''Look! You're both purple, you both have horns, and you are both friends!'' ''E-Ember! Let go!'' Twilight said, pulling herself out of the dragon's tight hold. She gave her cheeks a rub from the rough contact and she continued to glare at her. ''Well, fine, yes, we both have horns, and I was originally an ordinary unicorn, but we still look nothing alike! And we definitely do not sound the same!'' ''Yeah!'' Starlight said in agreement. ''Granted, 'Starlight' and 'Twilight' do rhyme, but that doesn't have any connection with our personal traits or inheritance. For one, I don't see how you can mix the two of us up. Twilight has wings,'' She said, pointing to the other unicorn's large, feathered appendages. ''See? Alicorn, unicorn. Entirely different species.'' ''Starlight, I- Huh, well, I suppose that makes a bit more sense,'' Ember said, lightly scratching her chin as she thought it over. ''But still, you have to admit that you both have some similar attributes! I mean, you even act the same as each other!'' The two mares facehoofed. ''Seriously?'' They responded simultaneously. ''There it is again!'' Ember held her claws out, frantically swatting between the two, causing them to look at each other. ''You both reacted exactly the same! How can you not see this for yourselves?'' She asked, looking between them with a frustrated frown of annoyance. ''Heck, the two of you are even probably into the same hobbies, too.'' At that, they both blinked. ''Well, no, not really,'' Twilight said. ''I mean, I'm into antiquing and researching things like chemistry, physics and astronomy, but Starlight isn't.'' She said, turning to face Starlight with a soft smile. Starlight nodded. ''It's true, Ember. While me and Twilight do share some of the same interests, we don't like exactly the same things or activities. However, we do both like scientific research and trying out new spells and such.'' ''See what I mean?'' Ember asked, to which both ponies in front of her gave her a blank expression. ''Some of the things you like are eerily similar. Speaking of things that are similar, have you two even looked at your cutie marks recently?'' Ember asked, moving forward and motioning towards both Twilight's and Starlight's cutie marks. ''You both have cutie marks with sparkly things on them!'' Twilight and Starlight shared a confused yet annoyed glance before Starlight said, ''Well, actually, mine is more of a glimmer.'' At that, Ember let out a frustrated groan and face-palmed. ''How is that different?'' Ember inquired, but turned her head as she noticed a figure approaching from her left, eventually seeing that it was Spike. ''Oh, Spike! Can you please tell these two that I'm right? They both look very similar.'' Spike turned to face both Twilight and Starlight, both of whom were giving Ember a disapproving scowl. Nervously, Spike began to scratch the back of his scaly claw and he glanced from both ponies behind him to the tall, blue-scaled dragon in front of him. ''Well, you know what friends normally do? They let something go when it's upsetting somepony else,'' Spike said, but this only seemed to infuriate the dragon princess even more, as emphasized by her scowl and crossed arms as she glared down at the little purple and green dragon. ''But I'm right! Come on, Spike, look at them! You're going to tell me that you have never noticed any similarities in their appearances and personalities?'' Ember protested, taking a hold of Spike by the shoulders and turning him on the spot to face both Twilight and Starlight. They both stared back at him for a moment before looking up towards Ember. ''Well, I suppose if Ember doesn't see that we don't look alike, then maybe Spike will,'' Starlight said to Twilight, seeing her give a nod of approval before she turned back to face Spike. ''Right, Spike?'' She asked as she looked down to the dragon, as did Twilight. Spike could already feel the bullets of cold sweat forming on his scaly forehead as he looked back and forth between the two ponies. He continued to nervously scratch the back of his claws as his soul was stared into by the two mares in front of him, and he knew that they wanted an answer sooner rather than later. ''I, well,'' He began. ''I'm...I'm not really all that sure, actually,'' He said. ''I guess they have similar names and mane colours?'' He said with a small shrug. Both Starlight and Twilight groaned, face-hoofing in unison. ''Not this again...'' Starlight grumbled. ''See!'' Ember said in triumph. ''I told you that you both had similar names and mane colours! I wouldn't be surprised if you were both sisters, too!'' She said, and both mares and Spike froze in place as they stared at the blue dragon in shock and surprise. Yes, it may have been true that Twilight and Starlight had names that sounded almost exactly the same, mane colours that were almost identical and cutie marks that held almost exact meanings and symbolism, but sisters? Nopony had ever even thought of that, and the idea to both Twilight's and Starlight's ears, now that it had been said, sounded just...absurd! ''For the last time - we look nothing alike!'' Twilight eventually said, breaking the silence. ''Yes, we are both friends, we have quite a lot in common, our names rhyme and we both have horns, but there's nothing else that's noteworthy about us aside from those few things! Also, not that I would mind it if she were my sister, I can assure you that we are most definitely not sisters, so just drop it already!'' Twilight said, snapping as she came face to face with Spike. ''And you,'' She said, lightly tapping Spike on the tip of his nose. ''You, don't enable her! I get that she's pretty much only just met us both, but she should still be able to tell us apart. I mean, Starlight hasn't got any wings,'' She said, pointing to Starlight's side, only adorned by a bright hue of lavender hair that served as her coat. ''And I have,'' Twilight then pointed to her sides, showing that she indeed had a set of larger-than-average wings, which was typical for an alicorn. ''You see? It's not that difficult!'' Twilight finished, looking back up to Ember. ''Do you get it now?'' Ember only looked at both of the mares for a moment, as if her brain was trying to calculate and take in all of this new information that was brought to her attention. She looked between the two for a moment or two, and both Starlight and Twilight waited in a silent suspense to know if Ember truly understood the point they were trying to get across to her. Eventually, Ember spoke up. ''No,'' She said. ''Not really.'' At that, Twilight and Starlight groaned heavily and they both face-hoofed with a loud smacking sound to their foreheads.
