//------------------------------// // End of first day of school: Candy Burn // Story: Adventures in the human world // by Dark Nightshade //------------------------------// As Candy Burn entered her first afternoon class, and the first one without her sisters and friends, she could feel people stare at her. "So you must be the one of the new students?" the teacher asked. "Yes," Candy Burn said. "You're Mr. Roboto?" The teacher nodded. "Yes, I am he," he said. "We have an open seat next to Micro Chips, if you don't mind siting down." Candy Burn nodded and walked towards the desk. Micro Chips starred at her curiously. "You're one of the girls from Equestria, right?" he asked. Candy Burn nodded. "You were brought to life with magic?" "An animation spell," Candy Burn said. "You want to know how it works, don't you?" Micro Chips nodded. But then Mr. Roboto started talking. "In movies and games and whatnot these days," he started. "There are Artificial Intelligences, or AI for short. The programming skills haven't quite yet been uncovered to make one....until now!" He pressed a button and the projector turned on, putting a speech line on the wall. "Did you actually program an AI, or is this just one of your friends again?" one of the students asked. "Well, screw you too, then," the speech line moved, and a voice came from the projector. Students snickered, but some of them, like Candy Burn and Micro Chips stared in awe. "Hey, watch your language!" Mr. Roboto exclaimed. "How can I watch my language?" the voice inquired. "It is language." "You know what I mean," Mr. Roboto said. "Anyway, like I said last time, that was a prank. This time I'm serious." "Wouldn't the government already have discovered this?" another student asked. "They already have," Mr. Roboto said. "They've already hired me onto a team of theirs, to program an AI that will pilot the ships and planes better." The class was impressed, made clear by their murmurings. "Hello," the voice said. "I am F.I.R.S.T: Functional International Respondent System Threatener." Each word for the acronym appeared on the screen. "Any questions?" Everybody had raise their hands, but F.I.R.S.T choose Candy Burn. "Yes, you with the orange skin. What is your query?" "So, you're like a person, but fake?" Candy Burn asked. "Yes," F.I.R.S.T said, a hint of surprise tinging his synthetic voice. "Next question." As other students were selected to get there questions answered, Micro Chips leaned over to Candy Burn. "So, what's the problem this time?" Micro Chips asked, his voice a whisper. "What's threatening the school this time?" Candy Burn raised her eyebrow and frowned. "Nothing," she said, her voice mimicking Micro Chip's whisper. "How many times has Mom had to save this school from evil?" "Several times," Micro Chips said. "So there's no problem now?" Candy Burn shook her head. "No, there's a problem," Candy Burn said. "It's too long to explain right now, so if you want me to explain it after school, I'll be heading back to Princess-I mean Principal Celestia's house." Micro Chips nodded. "Is she really a princess in Equestria?" he asked. "Yep," Candy Burn said with a nod. The rest of Candy Burn's classes weren't as exciting. Home Economics was cool, especially cooking. Candy Burn liked cooking. As she waited outside the school, she waited for her sisters. She couldn't wait to compare afternoons with them. She also kept her gaze for Micro Chips. Candy Burn wasn't completely sure what to think about him, but he seemed interesting. As Candy Bun turned around, she saw Twill Weave, Taissy, and Floriba, approaching. Candy Burn smiled and waved to them. They all had some interesting stories to tell each other.
