//------------------------------// // Decir Adiós // Story: A Change of Scenery, and Feelings // by OnlyButtonMash //------------------------------// "What? No!" Button Mash couldn't believe what he was hearing. "I'm sorry Button but it's what is best for the family right now. The job that your father was offered pays more than triple the amount of money he was earning here in Manehattan." "What about Dinky? She is my best friend and I was happy here! And some job is just gonna take that away from me?" "Button you will be fine in Ponyville. You just have to learn to make new friends. We can visit Dinky every once in a while, but don't worry about that right now. We are going to Ponyville and that's final. We leave in two weeks, so I would start saying goodbye to people that you've known here in Manehattan." Button Mash was still trying to process what had just happened. His whole LIFE was here. After moving from town to town, Manehattan is where he had been happiest. His whole world seemed to crash down on him as he realized he would never be returning to his true home after he left. In previous places he had lived in, he hadn't made any friends. He had only gotten picked on. In Manehattan, Button would still be bullied by other foals, but Dinky Hooves had always stood up for him. They quickly became best friends and she was the thing that kept him happy most of the time. She was always there to pick him up when he felt depressed or sad because of the bullying. Dinky was the thing he was going to miss the very most. A few days later Button had Dinky over to break the news to her. As Dinky approached Button's house she noticed a 'FOR SALE' sign in his front yard. She decided to ask Button about it when she found him. When she first saw him, she immediately noticed that something was off. He seemed to have a very sad and depressed mood and looked as if he were going to cry. Dinky asked him what was bothering him, but he just shrugged the question off and had her follow him upstairs to his room. Before they went upstairs, Dinky noticed some missing furniture in his house, but shrugged the thought off. When Dinky and Button entered his room, she noticed that there were boxes everywhere packed with all of his belongings. Dinky started to put the pieces together in her mind, and she was hoping that her conclusion wasn't right. Button went and sat down on his bed, now only a mattress with a blanket on it, and patted a spot next to him signaling for Dinky to sit with him. With his head down and tears starting to drip down his face, Button began speaking. "Dinky, I don't know where to start, so I'll just get right to the point...... I'm moving." With those words spoken, Dinky paled, but then smiled and said, "Wow, this was a good one Button! You've really outdone yourself on this prank. You actually had me scared that you were moving, but I know there is no chance of that. This is definitely your best prank yet. Where did you put all your missing furniture?" Dinky grinned and waited for Button to admit it was a prank, but he kept on weeping. "I wasn't kidding Dinky, I really am leaving. Four days to be exact." Dinky's smile faltered, but it still remained because she still did not believe him. "Quite the act Button. It's not funny anymore-" "THIS ISN'T AN ACT DINKY! THIS IS FOR REAL! IM LEAVING FOREVER!" Button snapped. No one spoke for a few seconds, then Button dropped to the floor and started bawling his eyes out. Dinky was still in shock. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. Her best friend in the whole entire world, Button Mash, the person who always knew how to make her happy, the sweetest pony she ever knew, the pony that she had developed a crush on during the past few months, HER Button Mash was leaving. Dinky started crying along with Button. The two foals remained crying into each other's arms for about thirty minutes, letting out all of their emotions. After they regained their composure, they stayed quiet for a few moments. Dinky then decided to speak up. "Where are you going?" she asked him, still trying to choke back tears. "Ponyville. My dad was offered a job from JoyBoy Inc. The job is supposed to pay way more than what he gets now. It wasn't my decision." Silence was the only thing heard throughout the room for a long time. The both of them were realizing how much each of them meant to each other. Button had always though of Dinky as the sister he never had. All he had was the stinky brother who is on tour with his band 'Out of Service.' Dinky would always defend Button when he got picked on, and she was always there to make him feel better about himself. He cared for Dinky like she was part of his own family. To think that he would barely see her anymore is heartbreaking. He never met someone so nice and as caring as her. "What now?" Dinky asked finally breaking the silence. "I don't know. I guess we just try to enjoy these last few days together." And enjoy their last days they did. That same day Dinky was allowed to sleep over at Button's house. They stayed up relishing over memories they had made over the years, and they played video games and ate snacks all night having a great time together. The other two days went like this too. They were inseparable those days, and the two foals wanted to savor every moment they had with each other. But then the dreaded day came. The Hooves joined Button and his family at the train station to say their farewells. All of the Mash's cargo was loaded onto the train, and all that was left were the goodbyes. "Well, I guess this is it," Button spoke in a sad tone. "I guess it is," Dinky replied. The foals looked each other in the eyes, then embraced one another with passion. "I won't ever forget you," Dinky said, her voice muffled by Button’s body. “I’ll never forget you either. You’re my best friend, and nothing will ever change that.” The train's engine started to rumble, and the conductor called for everyone to get on board. "Good bye Dinky. I’ll always remember you." Button Mash gave one last smile, then turned away from her as he walked onto the train. Button took his seat and looked at Dinky through the window. The train started to roll down the track, and Dinky started to chase the train crying at the same time, as well was Button. Every time the train started to get farther and farther, Dinky began to remember all the best times she had with Button. Their uncountable sleepovers where they would pull all-nighters playing video games and talk with each other, times at school when Button would stand up for her during class, long talks on the phone, and her first ever crush. All of that was going away in a train, and she knew that she would never experience that happiness with any other pony in her life except Button Mash.
