//------------------------------// // SUPRISE! // Story: Under your wing // by Comeonideodic //------------------------------// Glancing up at the clock on Twilights wall, Rainbow sighed in annoyance as she read the time. There was still about 5 minutes until Twilights train would arrive. She did have an idea as to why, but she just couldn't get Twilight out of her mind after there little cuddle session they had about a week ago. All Rainbow could focus on was the warmth and softness of Twilights coat, the comfort she felt as Twilight tried to squirm more and more into her side, the fluttery feeling in her heart as she, in a rather protective manner, wrapped her wing around her friends barrel in a tight wing hug. Blushing a bright red, she sighed loudly yet again while setting the book she was failing to read on the desk beside her with a loud thump. "Rainbow dear, is something wrong? You have been doing that for the past half hour." Rarity said with a hint of annoyance in her voice. Looking over in Rarity's direction, Rainbow mustered up the best smile she could at the moment. "I'm fine Rarity. Just uh, thinking about things." Looking over her friend closely, Rarity took notice to how red her friends face was, again. Rainbow has clearly been flustered about something for a while. In fact, every time Rarity had come across her friend this week Rainbow had been in some state of deep thought. Apparently Rainbow hadn't even shown up to help Apple Jack at the farm which was something she had never missed in the past. Now that she thought about it, she did recall Twilight talking about her and Rainbow's reading session last week before she left for Canterlot. Something about how much of a dream it felt like to her. Rarity seemed to remember Twilights face being equally as red to Rainbows right now. "How have I never put two and two together!" She thought with a smile tugging at her lips. Clearing her throat, she put most of her attention back to the scarf she was currently knitting. "Rainbow dear if there's anything you need to talk about, anything at all, you should know that I'm here to listen." Rarity said with a sincere smile, causing Rainbow to sink back into the couch with a groan. Smirking, Rarity was confident she had figured out why rainbow has been blushing so profusely all week. Her and Twilight will have to have a talk later. Twilight gave a happy smile as her hooves made contact with the hot pavement of ponyville's train station. She was finally home, and what a journey it was. Her library wasn't to far away from the train station about a 7 minute walk, so Twilight made sure her saddlebags were strapped tight around her belly and started to make the walk home. She was more than ready to settle down with a nice cup of tea and a good old Daring Do book. "Speaking of Daring Do.. How am I going to greet Rainbow Dash when I see her?" With her mind now in deep thought, she strolled her way through the cobblestone streets of ponyville towards her destination. "TWILIGHTS HERE TWILIGHTS HERE!" Pinkie screamed as she saw her friend walking towards the library. "Alright everypony, ya'll know what to do!" AppleJack said while getting into her hiding spot. The rest of her friends soon following and getting into there hiding spots as well. Stopping in front of her door, Twilight reached into her saddlebags to find her key. Once said key was found she put it in the slot and opened her door with a rather loud creek, "I need to get that oiled." She mused to herself while stepping inside and unstrapping her saddlebags, setting them down on the floor beside her. Closing the door, Twilight looked around her library and stopped dead in her tracks a she saw something hanging in front of her face. "A white card?" Quickly peering closer to the card, she opened it with her magic and read what it said. "Surprise?" she said out loud to herself, confused as to what it meant. "SUPRISE!" All her friends said in unison as they jumped out into the open from there hiding spots, Spike quickly turning on the lights for them. "GAHH!" Twilight screamed as she instantly dropped the card onto the floor and picked up her saddlebags in her magic to use as a shield. Hearing laughter from multiple sources, Twilight lowered her trusty saddlebag shield and groaned loudly as she laid eyes upon her grinning friends. Stomping her hoof onto the ground she tried, but failed to make the most pouty face she could. The only thing she could do was give a big wide smile. "You girls are so mean!!" She yelled as Spike ran up and hugged her foreleg. She quickly hugged him back with her free foreleg, "You weren't In on this were you?" Twilight asked with a mock hurtful look while looking down at her assistant. "Actually, he's the one that let us in." Rainbow spoke up with a smile while landing in front of Twilight. Letting go of her assistant, Twilight slowly looked up only to come face to face with Rainbow. They stood looking at one another for what seemed like an eternity, but Twilight's heart quickly took over and she found herself on the ground on top of Rainbow. Giving her friend an iron grip hug. Closing her eyes with a now dopey grin, Twilight took in a big breath of Rainbows shampoo. "Lavender?" Twilight giggled to herself, who knew being away from somepony you truly cared about would make the reunion so.. amazing. Rainbow's heart felt like it was going to melt as she got crushed in the iron grip hug. Rainbow had spent an entire week battling thoughts and feelings for this mare, only to be hugged like a stuffed bear when she goes up to say hi. She wanted to tackle Twilight back in revenge, but she knew her other friends were watching probably very curiously already. "I don't want to give' em any hints of this.. crush." Dash's eyes widened at that, was it really a crush? Did she actually fall for the egghead by cuddling up with her by a fire? Oh who was she kidding, of course she had a crush on Twilight. A pretty big crush if she had to say.. "Heh.. Contrats twilight, you managed to get the one and only Rainbow dash to fall for you." Rainbow said to herself with a smile as she started to return the hug her friend was giving. Not caring if her friends were watching anymore. "Ehem.." Rarity said while clearing her throat, trying to get both her friends attentions. Looking over at Rarity, Twilight blushed madly as she realized what she had done. "I'm terribly sorry to interrupt your little special reunion girls, but I do believe its time to get this party started. No?" Quickly getting off of her friend and stepping back, Twilight smiled weakly while doing her best to hide her insanely red face. "I-I think your right Rarity. You girls start I-I just have to put my saddlebags upstairs?" Twilight didn't mean for that to come out like a question, but she was to flustered to correct herself. Twilight quickly made her way up the stairs and into her room, all the while forgetting her saddlebags that were sat beside the door. "Twilight your saddlebags!" Rarity called up after her, but all she received was silence. Rainbow was sat on the ground with her forelegs behind her for support, her friends giving inquisitive looks at each other. Looking over at her curious friends, Rainbow saw a huge grin plastered on Rarity's face, directed right at her. Dash blushed and let herself fall onto the ground, staring up at the ceiling giving a quick sigh. "LETS GET THIS PARTY STARTED!" Pinkie yelled as she kicked the jukebox with a back hoof, letting music fill the quietness of the library. Rainbow could now tell this was going to be a rather interesting night. Twilight walked into her room and threw herself onto her bed, stuffing her head into the pillow as she heard the music start to play below her. That was not how she expected that to go at all. Twilight had thought her feelings were under control, but apparently she was wrong. How could she have been so stupid!? Rainbow probably hated her now! "Stupid stupid stupid!" She yelled into her pillow, muffling her voice. Hearing a knock at the door twilight lifted her head half expecting it to be rainbow, but instead rarity was stood in her doorway holding her saddlebags in her magic. "H-hey Rarity.. Please, come in.." Twilight said with a small smile as she turned and sat up facing her friend. Twilight knew well enough why Rarity was up here, and she was rather relived. It was nice having somepony to talk to about this stuff. Specially after that. Walking in Rarity set Twilight's saddlebags on the floor next to her nightstand, quickly exchanging them for her friends brush. Walking up to Twilight's bed, Rarity jumped up and sat down beckoning Twilight to come over and sit in font of her. "I messed up bad didn't I?" Twilight asked with concern clearly noticeable in her voice. "Not as bad as you think you did dear.. Now, mind telling me why that happened?" Rarity asked as she brushed the knots out of her friends mane. "W-well.. It was going fine! But as soon as I laid eyes on Rainbow I.. I just lost myself. Oh Rarity she probably thinks I'm crazy or something!" Twilight said trying her hardest to stay calm. How could she stay calm? She probably messed up her only chance with Rainbow all because she couldn't keep her stupid feelings at bay! Rarity sighed. She knew Twilight was rather new to the whole 'dating' scene, but she was overthinking this way too much. "Twilight listen to me." Rarity said setting down the brush and moving so she was sitting in front of Twilight, looking into her eyes. "Our dearest Rainbow does not think your crazy, trust me! Your overthinking this whole thing and you know it! Now, do get yourself cleaned up and get down there. This party is for you after all." Rarity said with a sincere smile. Twilight laughed and nodded her head at her friends words. Rarity was right, she was overthinking this too much. She always did when it came to things like this, but she couldn't help it! It was who she was! One thing was for sure though, Twilight was definitely glad she had Rarity to talk to, for she wouldn't know what to do without her. Exiting twilights room Rarity walked down the stairs and joined her friends in the kitchen, who were happily munching on snacks while having conversation with one another. Grabbing a few baby carrots in her magic, Rarity failed to notice Rainbow anywhere in the room. "Excuse me girls, but would any of you happen to know where Rainbow went?" Rarity asked confused as to why she would leave so soon. "Um, she said something about a very important package being delivered.." Fluttershy said looking over at Rarity. Rarity lowered her eyebrows in thought. "She will be coming back though right?" She asked with a hopeful tone. "Twilight would be very upset if she didn't.." "Ah believe so, she left sayin that the package was a surprise for later? Whatever that means.." Applejack said while peering at all the snacks to choose from. Giving a sigh of relief, Rarity softly bit into the carrots she was holding. Rainbow swiftly landed outside the library with a saddle bag hanging from her mouth. Looked into the main room of the library, she noticed all her friends were gone. "Probably in the kitchen, perfect.." She thought to herself. Having them out of the way while she hid her surprise made this a lot easier. Opening the door she quickly stopped and hissed as she remembered how squeaky the door was. "Damn it Twilight fix that!" She thought with a laugh and a grin. Thankfully the music overpowered the door's squeakiness, so she was in the clear, she hoped. Walking in and closing the door, Rainbow quickly flew up and decided to put her saddlebag on the highest shelf in the library. "I cant wait to show this to them later.. Especially Twilight, she's gunna love this!" She said with a happy grin as she landed on the library's floor. With her stealth mission done she headed into the kitchen to rejoin her awaiting friends.
