Chapter 1: Love, Magic and Dragons

Twilight stopped organizing the checklists and letters. While trotting up to the door, she pondered one question; who is this visitor? Was it a foal who wants to meet the Princess? Was it a new pony who just moved in? Twilight opened the large door. After gazing at the pony whom was knocking, her eyes widened and a smile grew across her face.

"C-Cadence! What an unexpected surprise!" Twilight said, as she felt her mane start to sweat.

Twilight wasn't expecting a visit from anyone, yet alone the Princess of Love and her sister in-law.

"Good Afternoon, Twilight. I figured I'd stop by for a little bit, I hope you don't mind."

The Purple Alicorn shook her head. "Heh, of course not! I'm just a tad busy, that's all."

Cadence smiled and hugged her Sister in-law. Twilight giggled lightly.

"The weather hardly ever changes over in the Crystal Empire, so I decided to see you here in Ponyville. If you're busy , I won't bother you."

"No, no! I'm just reorganizing my checklists, checklist checklists, checklists for those checklists-"

Spike interrupted her. "She isn't really all that busy."

"S-Spike!"

Cadence chuckled playfully. "How about we take a walk around town?"

Twilight nodded. "I'll be back in a moment, Cadence."

She trotted out of the room with Spike following behind.

Twilight returned minutes later with several bottles of sunscreen and two sunhats.

The Dragon looked at Twilight. "I'm pretty sure you won't need all those bottles."

"But what if we do? What if we only brought one and we lost it? I'd never forgive myself if Cadence got sunburn!"

The dragon rolled his eyes and patted Twilight's back.
"Twilight, how about I come along? I hate seeing you distressed like this."

Twilight sighed. "Alright, Spike. It.. means a lot. Thank you.."

The Dragon smiled and hopped on Twilight's back. "Hey, what kind of assistant would I be if I wasn't helping you?"

"Will you need a sunhat too?"

"I've relaxed in pools of lava, Twilight. A little sun isn't going to harm me."

They returned to Cadence who was still sitting at the front door, now wearing sunglasses.

"You like them? I bought them on the way to the castle."

"Of course, Cadence." Twilight nodded and smiled. "Spike is coming along with us."

"So, the savior of the Crystal Empire and my sister."

"In-law." Twilight corrected her.

"Of course, of course." Cadence laughed.

"Before we head out, we should don some sunscreen." Twilight insisted.

The Pink Alicorn nodded and sat on her rump. Twilight pulled a bottle out of her saddle bag and squirted some lotion onto her hoof. After rubbing her hooves together, she placed them on Cadence's back.

"Ahh, that's cold.." Cadence gently shivered.

"S-Sorry!" Twilight quickly rubbed her sister in-law's back.

Spike crawled from Twilight's behind and patted her neck. "Need any help?"

"I got this Spike, don't worry."

After a minute of rubbing sunscreen, Twilight finished protecting her from Celestia's boiling sun. Cadence smiled and rubbed some sunscreen on Twilight's snout.

"Will I do the same for you or does your assistant have it covered?" Cadence asked.

"You can do it if you wish." Twilight winked.

After another minute, the two mares were camouflaged with lotion.

"Well, let's go!" The Baby Dragon asserted.

Trotting through the streets of Ponyville, Twilight's mane continued to sweat.

"You look thirsty, Twi-Twi."

"I'm okay, Cadence, don't worry." Exclaimed Twilight.

The Pink Alicorn looked around and noticed a Lemonade Stand in the distance.

"I'll get us some drinks!"

Cadence galloped to the Lemonade Stand with Twilight following behind. The young mare working at the stand gasped.

"P-Princesses! What an unexpected surprise!"

Cadence smiled and placed several bits on the wooden counter.

"Three cups with ice, please."

"Of course, your majesty!" The Unicorn got to work, preparing her fresh lemons.

"Please, call me Cadence." She chuckled.

Twilight caught up with the fellow alicorn and panted heavily.

"Don't worry, Sister, I've got it covered."

"In-law". Twilight corrected her.

Cadence smiled and petted her mane. "I know, Twilight."

The Unicorn finished the three cups of lemonade and placed them on the counter. "Enjoy!"

Twilight took a sip of lemonade and exhaled. "Spike, could you fetch my sunhat?"

The Dragon opened Twilight's saddlebag and clutched Twilight's white, straw headgear. "Here you go."

"Thanks, Spike." She smirked and settled it on her head.

Cadence pulled up a chair and rested it under a tree. "For you, Twilight."

The Purple Alicorn smiled and relaxed her rump on the fabric of the chair. Cadence finished off her lemonade and sat beside Twilight.

"So, how are your friends doing?" Asked Cadence. "I heard Fluttershy had an animal sanctuary built in town."

"They're doing great. Starlight is out of town, catching up with Sunburst. A little ironic, isn't it?"

Cadence chuckled and took a sip of lemonade. "Shining almost fell out of the castle window the other day, the silly stallion."

She giggled. "Yep, that's my brother. I remember when I was a filly, he used to talk about you all the time."

"Aww, that's sweet." Cadence's face blossomed.

Twilight smiled and sat up. "I'm feeling a lot more refreshed. You want to walk some more?"

"I'd love to, Twilight. Spike?"

"Of course." Spike said, hopping on Twilight's back.

"So, where to?" Asked Cadence.
