//------------------------------// // Late Night Trouble // Story: I'm a Firefox, Apparently... // by Histy //------------------------------// I laid on the forest floor, still awake. I did fall asleep, but probably woke up an hour later due to my discomfort (my head hitting a rock that shouldn't have been there was also a factor). So, yeah. I just stayed there, watching the flame burn, and using Ember when it begins to die out. And yes, I discovered what move I learned, yay. 'I miss my bed,' I thought, a bleak look on my face. If there was anything I wanted now, it was to be home, on the bed, sleeping with no problem. But things never last forever, don't they? My life (and gender) was changed by I Don't Know Who, and here I am, in a world that's not Earth, with some pegasus inhabitants, one of which I had a conversation with. I shifted my thoughts to the conversation me and Star String had, and remised where he said I was. "Grittish Forest, near Trottingham, I guessing that Trottingham is some town, or a city," I guessed. I wonder how this 'Trottingham' would look, but the thing is that I don't know where it is. 'Well, that doesn't matter, because I'm not going there, anyway,' I thought simply. As the fire began to die out again, I set to keep it alive with Ember, but then the sun began to rise, bringing its shining light to start a new day. But as it did, I noticed something that I hadn't seen yesterday (probably because I didn't care at the time). "That sun is rising way too quickly," seriously, it was rising so fast, you would think that someone was controlling it. "Whatever, as long as it doesn't dive down to the ground, I won't care," I stated as I stood up, "besides, I have someone to visit." ---------------------------------------------------- "Alright, here we are, home sweet home," Star String's father, a brown unicorn stallion with a green mane and tail, declared as he stopped pulling the massive coach behind him. Star yawned. He had been awake all night, as trying to sleep in a rumbling and jumping coach, along with him being easy to wake, simply didn't work for him. He sleepily looked at his home, a large wooden cabin, with a stone foundation only just noticeable, windows on all sides, and a bright red roof. The entrance to it was a simple wooden door, nothing much, while the on the opposite end was a chicken coop, filled to the brim with said animals. "Star, get your mom while I get the door," his father then ordered. Star looked over to his mother, a white pegasus mare with a turquoise mane and tail. Unlike him, she was able to get some sleep, and currently was. "Hey, mom, wake up," he said as he nudged her. "Mmmm..." was the only response Star got. He decided to try harder, and began to shake her, "Mom, wake up, we're home." "Ugh... I'm up, I'm up," she muttered as her eyes fluttered opened. As his mom then began to stretch, Star leaped out of the coach. As he began his journey to his front door, he yawned again, this time much louder than the last. His father, who had now unlocked the door and was returning to the coach, saw his son's sleep deprived expression. "Star, why don't ya get some sleep while me and your ma' do the hard work?" He asked. Star nodded, embracing the opportunity for some sleep. He passed through his home, not taking mind of anything in it, and just barging into his room and jumping on his soft, inviting bed. It didn't take ten seconds for him to fall asleep. ----------------------------------------------- Star was awoken suddenly by the loud, panicked clucks of his families' chickens. That's odd, since the location of this forest, on an island far from the mainland, would make it one of the safest ones known. By that explanation, they are probably having a late night brawl. Grumbling, he got out of his bed, grabbed the lantern beside the front door, lit it, and went outside. Now, despite being lit, his lantern, didn't give off much light. And Star String, not being a fan of extensively dark areas either, was afraid of what he might find at the chicken coop. As he neared the distressed clucks, however, a voice rang out, crumbling all the fears he had before. "Dammit! Stupid chickens!" The voice of Wildfire hollered. "Oh, it's just her," Star sighed in relief. But then he realized something, "Wait, why is she here, of all times she could be here, too?" As he came around the the corner of his home and saw what was happening, he could only see what anypony would call humorous. Wildfire was covered in chicken feathers of all colors, her rear facing him, and her eyes facing the coop, where in front of it, all the chickens were grouped into separate masses. If Star was to guess what was going on, it would be that Wildfire was trying to get some food, and his chickens were making her look like a fool. --------------------------------------------- I glared at the chickens, who stood together in one group, all of them croaking different calls to one another. Which I did, only for them to disperse once again, causing me to miss. "Dammit! Stupid chickens!" I yelped after my muzzle hit the ground. I snapped my attention to them again, now seeing that they were now all in different groups, all their eyes facing me. I got ready to pounce at a chosen group, but something stopped me. I noticed the chickens were now looking at something else, while some still kept their eyes on me. "Wildfire, what are you doing here?" A voice cutted through the silence. I yelped again, and I felt myself jump in reflex much like a cat would do when they get scared. I swiftly turn around to the worried-looking face of Star String. "Getting some food, what else?" I hissed at him. Now, before you go like 'couldn't you just eat sticks?', yes, yes I can. But I'm one of those people who get tired of eating the same thing over and over again. So when I saw those chickens, I jumped at the opportunity to eat something else. I could use ember on them, too, but the problem with that is, first, I don't know how to cook, and second, I don't want to accidentally burn Star's house down. Now then! Back to the story! Star keeps his look of worry, "I get that, but why do you have to be so loud? You could wake up my parents!" "Star? What's goin' on back there?" Came a thick male voice. If I'm guessing, that's his parents. I don't like them. Why? Because they're the type that whenever you speak about them, they apparently show their faces. And I didn't had any time to run or hide, as from the corner from where Star was, another horse-looking thing much larger than Star, came around it. Star swiftly turned around, "Dad! Uh..." he tried to say something, but couldn't get it out. His dad wasn't paying attention to him, however as his eyes surveyed the chickens. And then me. "Son, can you tell me somethin'?" He stated, before continuing without an answer, "What in the name of Celestia is THAT?" "It-er... she is a...uh..." Star stuttered, trying to look for an answer, "uh... a new pet for us! Yes, a New pet..." ...Wat. "So... yer sayin' that ya tamed this thing?" Star's father replied, now looking at him with a serious face. "Yes I did, I was here for a long time after it tried to eat the chickens." "Well, are ya very well sure that you'd tamed 'dis thing?" "Yes, dad." "Then tell it to do somethin'," is he saying what I think he's saying? After a short silence, Star's father spoke up again, "Tell it to do some tricks. Come on," yup he is saying what I think he's saying. "Uh... right!" Star looked to me, "sit!" He ordered, but there was one problem. I was sitting since his father began talking to him. He noticed, "Uh, lay down!" After a few seconds, I laid down.l, 'this is embarrassing,' I grumbled in my thoughts. Star looked back to his father, "See, she's obedient, like a dog!" His father released a loud yawn, before speaking. "A'ight, son, ya can keep it, I'mma' get some sleep," he turns around to go back to the front of the cabin, "But make sure it don't put anything on the floor!" He yelled back before disappearing around the corner. Well... he was far more accepting than I thought he would be. Probably because he's sleepy as hell, he did wake up in the middle of the night, after all. Suddenly, I was swept off the ground. I yelped as I clawed the one hoof that held me. "Hey, stop scratching my hoof!" Yelled Star, but I wasn't inclined to listen to him. "Well you didn't say you were going to pick me up!" I yelled back, continuing my assault, although it didn't seem to penetrate well. Instead of arguing back, he held me tighter. So tight, it knocked the wind out of me. Once my vicious clawing ceased, he lightened his hold. Begrudgingly, I didn't resist again. Let me give you a quick lesson. Holding pets seems fine, but when you become held like them, you could easily see why they hate it. Then, we went into his house. I asked for some food, which I got by way of an apple. Finally we went into Star's room. It was what I expected to see, actually, an empty room with nothing but a bed, and a window above it. Star dropped me onto his bed before he went into its covers. "I wanna get some more sleep, and you should too," he said while trying to find a comfortable position to sleep, "and we'll figure out how to introduce you to mom." I circled around in place, before laying down myself, "Shouldn't we try to figure that out right now? Because if-" "Tomorrow," he interrupted. I sighed, "Alright, fine. We'll that sleep you crave for." There was a short silence, with us just laying there, trying to sleep, before Star interrupted it. "Hey, Wildfire?" "What?" I responded, looking in his direction. I couldn't see his face, but I could tell that it probably had a smile on it. "Welcome to the family."
